Prereqs - Is A&P That Difficult?
Yeah I hear you.. I spend lunches studying, before class, after class, and weekends. To say i am tried is an understatement! I would be worried about mixing up the different sciences by taking them at once. The first few weeks of A&P has been a bio, microbio, and chemistry overview. So, take those first it will give you the first few weeks to focus on lab and learning the bones. :) The first day of class the teacher asked how many people have taken the class before and i kid you not more than 2/3rd raised their hands!! I went whole cow! Did they not realize the first time what they were getting into and put everything they have into it and make it count? I dont want to pay for this class twice! :)

Prereqs - Is A&P That Difficult?
I am taking A&P I and psychology right now. I am fine with this work load but to take II I have to have I done. My school doesn't allow you to double up on A&P. I couldn't image taking both on at the same time. There is so much information to take in with just one A&P but I also work full time. If you think you can handle it than great. There is a LOT of work in this class and terms to know and how it all works I would be afraid to start mixing things up! Best of luck!

CNA skills test
I passed the first time and I don't think anyone can pass or fail. When I tested the reason the one girl in our group failed is her vitals.... I think that is the most important part and as long as you are hitting the required steps on everything else you can pass. Vitals I made sure I was very comfortable with especially blood pressure. I read through my skills a bunch of times three days leading up to my test and reread all my test material from class. I think if you do that and your vitals are solid you will do fine :)

Well, I would say being young and not wanting to study all A's but math is pretty darn good I am sure you have a pretty good chance and if they complain about that C can you retake that one? Yes, any questions I have about teacher I will send you way! Thank you 2015 is going to a crazy year! I am still up in NC moving there end of next summer (not looking forward to house hunting.. lol). I am taking an EMT course this coming semester so I can get that certification. I would take my math and English classes but I want to take them there for guaranteed admission. I am also hoping that some stuff I have will transfer in but I have to see if that will hurt my chances though and if I should just retake them anyways :) I like that the school offers a lot of those lower classes online. That will make it soooo nice!! All the while hopefully getting a CNA job to start getting experience to put on my resume. :)

Are handguns allowed at work?
The last Federal building I went into I couldn't even bring in my purse or cell phone. They checked me at the door I was only allowed my ID, a form of payment, and my paperwork. They would not let me in otherwise. I would hope them turning me away for a purse and cell phone that their metal detector I had to walk through catches guns. :)

Hi, I am still up in NC moving back to FL this coming summer. I know community colleges tend to offer the CNA classes. There were 2 up in Jacksonville. The Red Cross offers classes too for cheap!

Older Student - And So It Begins
I am 34 and just starting my pre-reqs.. I am almost done with my CNA class. I am very excited to be starting this journey and more than likely being super exhausted and wanting to cry. ADN comes first to pass the NCLEX than off to be my BSN. This will be my second degree so college isn't new to me but all these science courses will be!

Hard Time
And this is why I keep hearing OVER and OVER do not work full time while in nursing school! :) It has to consume your life. You are taking someone's life in your hands so you need to know this stuff inside out. And yes it only gets harder after the pre-reqs. I know this is all meant to kick you butt to weed out the ones that cant handle it prior to clinical and prior to be handed your own patient.

I am in the process of completing my CNA training. I think its a great start for anyone going into the field. You learn all the basics of daily care. I am going to work as a CNA while in school. Its a great foot in the door plus I think it will give me a leg up on students that haven't taken the class. I will be more comfortable with the daily tasks already.

Thank you #yardbird! Yes, we are excited to be headed down there after being in NC for a while. We will be closer to my husbands parents. Which I am sure they are just as excited about as all of their kids have moved far away. Thank you for the information! I just needed to hear from someone that had been there or knew someone that did. :) It is my first choice at the moment. I am debating on UF in Jacksonville. I don't like the cost either! I am looking for the hometown feel and no traffic also! I don't want to just be a number like at a big university so I can learn a lot more. I will try to avoid the politics; though I am sure it looks great on your resume when it comes time to apply for jobs. The other thing I liked about FGC is if you get B+'s in your pre-reqs you get guaranteed admission into the nursing program. Have you started your pre-req's yet?

itt tech scam?
Very good point SoniaReb! I would like to see a lot of these schools post how many of their students pass the exit exams that are required. I know where my husband is going to school for his airplane mechanic license, this rate is really low! Out of his class of 30 only 2 have passed the exit exam for part one. A lot of people may attend these schools because they don't require entry exams or pre-req prior to acceptance. Its easy to get in even though it costs an arm and a leg. They are also very structured. They tell you what you are taking to get your degree. I think a lot of community colleges need to follow that model a bit more and they would have a higher graduation rate (the one my husband is at is at 12% and that's sad!). A lot of people just sign up for classes and later find out they don't apply towards the major they want. Academic advising should be required for new students. The other scary part about these schools is we had a friend that attend EPCI and HALF of his credit wasn't transferable.

Hi Everyone! I am currently in NC and will be moving to FL to be closer to my husbands family, for future grandkids. Anyways, I am looking at attending FGC for my ADN. I am completing my CNA training now and planning on doing my Pre-req at FGC as if you get B+ in all those classes you get guaranteed admission into the nursing program. I was wondering is any one has taken the program there and how you liked it? Also, if anyone knows of a program for those seeking a second bachelor's degree up near Jacksonville? They tend to be accelerated. Any insight would be helpful! Thank you

The other thing to look at is their pass rate. The one here locally near me has a 75% pass rate on the NCLEX (these numbers can be found on your state nursing board website). This made me knock them off my list right away. That makes me think they aren't teaching you what you need to know to pass and be a good nurse. I am now looking at two schools that have at least a 95% pass rate. I know I will get my moneys worth! I also looked at how many of their students are getting hired after graduation. which means there is faith that their program is doing a good job.
