  1. I took phlebotomy 4 years ago at my cc. The course was one semester plus clinicals at a hospital. I am taking my nursing pre-reqs. currently. I have worked as a phlebotomist in a hospital setting for 4 years. Phlebotomy is definately a skill not everyone can do well. You get ALOT of practice in a hospital setting. The hospital where I work gives tuition rmb. up to $4,000 per year. I am also a mom of 4 who didn't take my first college class until I was 38! I am 42 now and plan on getting my RN.
  2. Hi, I just joined this great forum about a week ago. It has lots of good tips, support and information. I also changed fields completely at 37. I had worked in an accounting office for 18 years. I really wanted to do something in the healthcare field. I have always wanted to help other people and try to make a differance. My mother was a RN and didn't retire until she was 72! I took a phlebotomy class at my local CC and was hired at a hospital laboratory right of class. I have gotten alot of hands on experience with patients and am exposed to all areas of the hospital. At our hospital a phleb. makes quite a bit more money than a CNA. I have been taking courses off and on for 5 years and I kept thinking maybe I am too old (42) now for the nursing program. This summer I decided I can do this! I am taking A&P starting today. I should have my pre-reqs. done and be able to enter Nur. program in Spring, '07. The great part is that the hospital is paying for everything thru their tuition reimb. program. Just wanted to give you another idea besides CNA. Phlebotomy skills are an excellant skill for a nurse to have. I love our Nurses that can draw blood!
  3. Just wanted to give you my vote of confidence. I took my first college class at 37, five years ago. I was excited but had never been so nervous or anxious about anything in my life! Not even childbirth LOL. Once you sit through your first day your nerves will calm about 100%. The classes you are taking will be good for starting back. I was also amazed at how much life experience affects the type of student you are. I love going to school and as an older student you will put so much more into getting good grades. You'll do great, signing up and making the decision to go back is a huge step. Lots of people never get to that point. Good luck to you.
  4. Thanks for your reply. I will call the school today but I am pretty sure they will accept either option for their Associate program. Yes General Biology is a pre-reg. for this class. I have already taken Bio 110 (our cc's # for 101) and Bio 120 (microbiology). I passed both with an A. I know that many other schools will not transfer the A&P one semester class. They require I & II. The course at my school is 5 credits for one semester. I had not seen any posts that didn't refer to A&P I or A&P II and I was worried that maybe it's too difficult to do this well in one semester. I want to keep my high GPA because the program is competitive. I am not taking any other courses with the A&P this semester.
  5. I have been reading several posts regarding A&P. Everything I have seen refers to A&P I or A&P II. The CC I am attending offers the class as one semester for the whole course (5 credits) or I and II (8 credits). I am registered for the one semester course and was wondering if any other people have taken A&P this way. Thanks for all replys.
