Ratios changing in my department
I'm extremely jealous of everyone here! I work in a large academic medical center, well known throughout the country and we regularly have 8 patients. We don't have ratios. Patient load doesn't change whether you have an icu or stepdown hold. It's sad and very unsafe. There is a retention problem (as you can imagine), and so we are also regularly understaffed.

The tuition is around $7k a semester, give or take depending on if you get the school insurance, etc.

Rutgers Accelerated Nursing- Fall 2015 (Newark)
Hi SweetDream, Is that for NB or Newark? And where did you get those figures? I'm in the Newark program and its definitely not that expensive.

Rutgers Accelerated Nursing- Fall 2015 (Newark)
You do have clinical the first semester. First half of level 1 is spent in skills lab, second half is in the hospital. Don't worry about the paperwork, it's not necessary to have it done by the first day. You can still work on it during those weeks before you hit the hospital.

Rutgers Accelerated Nursing- Fall 2015 (Newark)
Just so you guys know, Rutgers changes everything last minute. This is your first example of that. It is very frustrating for all students.

Rutgers Accelerated Nursing- Fall 2015 (Newark)
Hi Michelle A, the program starts in September. I don't know where you are from but Union County College offers a chemistry/biochem hybrid class that counts for the chem preq and so you wouldn't have to do 2 classes. You might want to look around and see if other colleges offer it too so you can speed up the process. Good luck!

Rutgers Accelerated Nursing- Fall 2015 (Newark)
Things like muggings, car theft/break ins, etc. The build is fine, but there is no real "campus." As soon as you leave the Rutgers building, you are on the streets of Newark. The security guards do their best to protect everyone and even walk people to their cars at night, but still, things happen. If you're not lucky enough to get one of the few spots in the lot in the back of the building (that fills by 7:45am), you have to park somewhere the requires you to walk on the streets. The merger was made official in July 2013, so about 18 months. There are still a lot of things being integrated and as a student you feel that at times.

Rutgers Accelerated Nursing- Fall 2015 (Newark)
Hi everyone, I am currently a student in the Rutgers Newark ABSN. The program is going through a lot of changes after the merger, which leads it to be disorganized. You will basically dedicate all your time to them because they change things very last minute. You have to be flexible, that is for sure. The experience has been rocky for many students in our class, but it is only week 4 so hopefully things will improve. Safety is a concern. Things happen around the school. But for the price, you get a nursing degree and that is what matters the most. I saw some of you guys are talking about applying to the NB campus. They were going to have an NB cohort this semester, but had to cancel it just a few days before day 1 because there were not enough students. So even if you "get in" to NB, that can change at any moment. Being flexible is KEY because things change, very often. Make copies of EVERYTHING before you submit them, because they get lost (especially immunization forms). Stay on top of your application/documents. Make as many calls as you need to to get things done. Good luck with your applications!

Rutgers ABSN new requirements
Hi Lina16, It makes no difference whether you do your prerequisites at a community college or Rutgers. I had originally planned to apply for Fall 2015, but they extended the deadline and decided to allow students who are taking their last prerequisites to apply for Spring 2015, so I got in for Spring 2015! With a Rutgers bachelors and community college prerequisites. All they care about is (mostly) your prereq grades and bachelor's gpa. Good luck!

Rutgers ABSN graduates
Hello everyone, I'm a pre-nursing student currently completing my last semester of pre-requisites before apply to ABSN programs in NJ. I graduated from Rutgers-Newark, so I'm hoping to join their program in the Fall of 2015. Im looking for some help from anyone currently in the program or anyone who's graduated from their program in Newark. What exactly do they mean by "14 month program"? They have the curriculum broken up by 4 semesters, so is it 2 fall semesters and 2 spring semesters, or is it 14 months straight, no break in between semesters? I can't seem to find information on that. Any other thoughts on their program would be very much appreciated! Thank you.

Rutgers ABSN new requirements
Hi, I'm also applying for the Rutgers ABSN for fall 2015 (Newark). I graduated from Rutgers May 2014, spent 2 years at union county college before that. I took a course called ENG128 Dynamics of Communication at UCC and rutgers said this was the approved course for that pre-req. Not sure if that helps but if you took any English course that deals with communications it probably will count, give them a call and they'll let you know.
