License transfer Cali--> TN
The wages may be on the lower end in TN (especially new grad), but you have to remember the cost of living index in Cali is awfully high...especially seeing as how the state is beyond broke. It's worth a shot to go for it (although I've heard there are some difficulties getting a brand new license in Cali if you've gotten your education in another state), however one caution...no one quite knows what's going to happen with Medi-Cal, which is what--in both my current jobs--I come across most often as primary insurance...My full-time job has put a merit-raise freeze into action (thus no matter how great our annual reviews, no one gets a bump in pay), and my part time job may not be there soon...hence why I'm not too upset to be getting out:eek:

License transfer Cali--> TN
Well I feel awfully silly--after following a link from another thread, it was right there! So, I rescind the majority of my post lol...however I'd still love to hear about anyone's adventures in license transfers to TN! :wink2:

License transfer Cali--> TN
Hey All! My boyfriend just got orders out to Fort Campbell and we're getting ready to high-tail it out of So-Cal. I'm finding all kinds of job openings, but am having a heck of a time figuring out how to start the process of getting my license (LVN) transferred or endorsed out in TN. The California BON website is most helpful (I just need to give them my application to the new state and $75 to release me), but I am not enjoying Tennessee's BON site at this point lol. The only thing I'm finding is the application for RN, which certainly isn't going to help me at the moment. Really, I'm hoping to get one of the jobs at the army hospital, making this a non-issue, but I know it's still a good idea to be legal in the state in which I'll be living. I really don't want to have to call the Board because I have the feeling it will be most stressful, but if that's what I have to do, that's what I'll do. Anywho, if anyone has recently gone through all this, I'd appreciate if you could please share some info with me...primarily HOW (lol), but also how long the process took you and how expensive it was. Thank you so much!!

LPN in Chicago
hey all--i just have a few quick questions. right now i'm in nursing school in california (my husband's military) and will be home to chicago in about a year and a half. we're already planning for everything for when we come home (we're not homesick or anything, lol). so, first i found the apartment complex (river city, btw) and then i started looking at jobs and it appears to me that all of the hospitals (i believe i looked at all the university hospitals as well as northwest community in arlington hts. because i loved being a patient there while in high school and would deal with the commute) only hire lpns with an adn. does anyone know anything about this? the track i'm on isn't for a degree but since i looked at the hospitals i started freaking out. turns out, though, i'm a lot closer to my assoc. than i thought (my freshman year at uic somehow slipped my mind, lol) so i can get it done here but it'll be a rush and i'll have to take these classes in addition to nursing and in the summer semester after nrsg classes are done but there's only so much you can squeeze in to those spots. arg, i wish i had figured this out earlier! i only took 4 classes in 2 semesters because that's all i needed to get into the program...grr...i could have easily taken art history, math and pe... i'm also planning to bridge into an rn program at a city college once we get back and settled so i was hoping to hear from those of you who've gone through it and get your opinions on that program. hmm...i think i'll highlight my questions because they're surrounded by so much babble, sorry! :imbar well, thanks for reading and i hope to see a bunch of responses!!

Help with an annoying classmate
No one else may comment on her within your earshot, but I can bet that they do on break! I had one of those in a psych class. Aside from her regular class stunts, she decided she was in charge of our research paper presentations--telling us we were wrong or just talking about her brother's friend's mom's cat's uncle that had X and that we didn't know what it was like. You just have to take those people in stride and know that you (hopefully) won't have to deal with them once class is done. Also, I found it stress-relieving to just laugh at the ridiculousness (is that a word? lol) instead of getting annoyed. Good luck...it seems like you've figured her out, though.

Let's play a little game...
I think I have the topper...I'm still in school but my IN LAWS are paying for it all. Best family to marry into ever! Both of their fathers were university professors and education had always been #1 on their list so they INSISTED! Although...I think I'll be forever in their debt, lol. I've told them that they and all their friends get unlimited medical consults for life.

Quit after a week!
This CNA hauled off and slapped her across her face right back and yelled at her! She then proceeded to stomp on the stuffed animal that this resident always carries around with her (a unicorn). Wow. I don't have any helpful advice, but this brought me nearly to tears.

Question about COPD and Oxygen
I am just a lowly nursing student, but we actually just tested on this exact thing. In fact, our instructor told us a story about when she first got out of school (40ish years ago), they didn't know back then about the back-up mechanism and that COPD pts' breathing relied on O2 levels instead of CO2 levels and they actually had a few people stop breathing because they were given WAY too much O2...she also said that pts and their families often don't understand this and think, if a little's good then a lot must be better...which can cause a lot of trouble. Anyway, after all this babbling :imbar I'm pretty sure you're right about the 1-2 L

A little humor. You might be from Illinois if...
YES!! I've been living in California for a year and a half and it's so different here...it's nice to not feel like the outsider!!
