Having been in ED for 8 years I'm not sure how your friend said we don't push Ativan because we definitely do. I've pushed it probably hundreds if not thousands of times for alcohol withdrawal patients, seizing patients, panic attacks, help with muscle spasms, agitated grannies (I know it's not recommended), oh and the good old B52 (Benadryl, haldol and Ativan) for our combative people in certain situations like involuntary psych holds who try to fight us. I applied for licensure by endorsement and also for a temporary license as well. I went to cali and did the Livescan 2 weeks ago. It said it could take 3 business days in order for the board to receive them. I checked online to see the progress and it still said "Pending Fingerprints" I'm not sure why. I tried to call the board and I keep getting hung up on after I click through to Licensure by endorsement and it says "The callback queue is full please call back at another date" Although I didn't even choose to get called back. I sent an email. Any idea how to get anyone on the phone with the California BON? Any help appreciated thanks in advanced.

Same here! Our mar doesn't say anything, I can't say I've looked at the vial, but it comes in a carpet which I always assumed was for direct injection. I asked my ED pharmacist the other day, and she said there's no need to dilute it, and I asked if it would prevent it from being caustic to the veins. She said no, but an FDA label thinks it must be diluted. I told her this, and she still said it didn't have to. I'll take a closer look at the vial next time I pull it, and I am also changing my nursing practice and always learning something new in this profession. I agree some meds are unnecessarily diluted, but I think it's usually not harmful.

Sounds like you've had a rough orientation honestly. I lucked out with my orientation and I stayed with the same preceptor who had had 20+ years experience and loved to teach. I will never forget or appreciate enough the orientation he gave me. That said I honestly feel like they didn't give you a proper orientation, which like the other commenter said definitely contributes to you sinking or swimming. I would say don't give up just yet, go back to the other ER that also offered you a position and tell them your situation and maybe you'll be put into a way better environment for learning and support which like the other commenter said you NEED when you're new. You can't survive on your own but there is definitely a time where you need to know if you will sink or swim but then there's also just having a complete lack of orientation which is not your fault. If all else fails. Just revert back to your ABCs for every patient. Airway breathing and circulation. Everything thing else including time management takes time to gain skill with. Good luck! OK, my ER peeps. So my new boyfriend is an ICU nurse, and we somehow came on the subject of Ativan, and he told me that it HAS to be diluted. I was like, "What?? I've never done that, or been told to do that, or seen any other nurse do that". But when I look it up, it says to dilute it. I've been working for six years and feel like a complete idiot for not knowing this before. I want all your input on this. Just out of curiosity, really.

Which agencies are used most in NY and NYC? I've heard American Mobile and Fastaff but want to know of any others, I definitely see that Fastaff pays the most! and American Mobile has some good contracts with some of the big name hospitals which is exciting as well. Any info is appreciated!

Just an update for everyone if they are interested in what I decided, I withdrew from South University because I found the class I was taking was blatantly misformatted online, also there were unfeasabile amounts of study material with no study guide offered ever, including for the midterm which included 600+ pages of material, they made the midterm due Two days earlier in the week than usual, so only 5 days to prepare for the midterm while I'm working full-time at the hospital, they also gave us new material to study within that week which was another 200+ pages so then it was 800+pages to go over with NO study guide, when multiple students asked for a study guide from the professor week after week especially for the midterm we kept getting the same robotic responses stating "I do not develop the content for South University, what ever material is provided for you on the course is the material you are to study from" which was complete BS because I felt like these online instructors would do absolutley ANYTHING to help us, I consulted with my Academic Advisor and explained the situation she greatly apologized and stated that they were "working on this" but for weeks nothing ever happened, although she was very sweet and helpful on the phone I'm sure it's not her fault, but yea I'm looking into an on campus school that provides preceptors and will probably start at the end of next year, I just greatly frown upon South University and how they handled this situation with multiple students failing week by week with no effort done to change the situation or the class or address the instructor who was not helping us at all. I feel they didn't care about their students or their education and will be looking into another university with a better quality education. Don't get me wrong I know online is tough and I got my bachelor's degree completely online as well and I know NP wasn't going to be easy either but I just found that situation to be completely ridiculous. anyways, I'm glad I took a break I really needed it and I was miserable, and I'm just going to be racking up money now with travel nursing to pay off the loan debt and start fresh next year. Just some info for you if you are considering going to the High Point campus, South University recently got bought out by Dream Center Foundation and they will be closing three South University campuses in High Point, NC, Novi, MI, and Cleveland, OH. Just to let you know! I don't know when they will officially close those campuses but they are going to offer the students attending those universities on campus an online alternative or other locations near by if there is one. @charlottegirl

I just graduated with my BSN last december and took about a 2 month break then started FNP school online at south university while I'm travel nursing too at the same time. I'm extremely overwhelmed, I'm thinking I should've let myself have maybe a year break or something and I just don't want to do it anymore, I'm about 3 classes in and 7K in debt so far to the program. I just really feel like is it even worth it to go for FNP? I currently work ER at a level I trauma center and I love it, I don't feel overly stressed at work and I love my coworkers. I was thinking to myself, do I really want to go through all this school and studying when I could just be enjoying my life in beautiful florida with great people?? Do FNP's even make that much more than RN's?? I heard they don't but I've also heard crazy figures. Anyways money hasn't always been my number one priority as I don't spend much and I'm not flashy but hey making more is always a good thing right??? Should I drop the program and maybe start it up later or a year from now?? I don't know my drive for school is just not there anymore. I haven't taken a long break from school since I could remember. Even since highschool I always did summer school each year to get ahead, So i've really not had a summer break to myself since I was..... 14 maybe? I'm a travel nurse in Orlando currently and i gotta say I do love it! I told them I want to extend but I have been having this nagging dream of traveling to NY for so long. I heard working ER in NY is horrific though. I've heard of patient ratios of 1:9 or 1:10 etc. I actually interviewed for a job at Good Samaritan at West Islip and the nurse manager asked me if I would be ok with a ratio of 1:8 I was in absolute shock! for an ER that sounds nuts to have that many patients at once, of course if they do evenly spread it out but we all know how that can go sometimes. In general I've traveled to NY and I love it, I'm just scared about work being hell. Can anyone with experience tell me what it's like to work ER over in the city or surrounding areas? I do want to be in the city, just for the experience and I plan on only doing one contract so I guess even if it is bad it wont be for long. Any info is appreciated!!!

It is a misdemeanor, my lawyer is trying to see if he can get it dismissed and my boyfriend signed an affidavit to not press charges and not testify and not be a witness to the state which the lawyer said would help get it dropped. I'm really hoping I don't lose my license because of this. Any ever have to report this to the board and lose their license on a first time offense?

And in the case I do become convicted, will I lose my license for this?? I have a clean record before this, and am currently in a masters program to become a nurse practitioner, I would hate to give that all up and I just recently earned my bachelors degree.

I have recently been charged with domestic violence in florida but have not gone to court yet to see if it will get dismissed or not, it was very stupid I had a loud argument with my boyfriend in the parking lot and someone called the cops. Anyways If my case gets dropped and I never become "Convicted" then does that mean I have to report it to the florida board of nursing?? I was arrested and went to jail but I have not been convicted yet and hope not to. But yea just to restate the question if I do not become convicted and the charges are dropped do I have to report it to the florida board of nursing? I read on the board that you only have to report pleas of guilty, No contest or any convictions. Just want to make sure.

How do you send in your proof of CEU's compliance to renew your license? Do you email it to them? do you print out a copy and send it to them? any ideas??? I know the online renewal form lets you just fill out information and pay and say that you have completed the 20 contact hours or so but it doesn't have a place for you to attach anything to prove it? I'm sort of confused. Any help would be appreciated.

I need to do my recert but this website is incredibly slow! and I'm trying to load the actual recert videos and it's not loading and/or taking forever??? I tried using a couple of different browers but keep getting the same thing. I need my recert like now or else I'm gonna get taken off the schedule. Anyone else have this problem with this website recently? I did it last in march with no issues that I remember but now I can't even get the modules to display (

I know this question has been asked before and I searched it and came up with something relevant but from 4 years ago and want more recent info. I'm an ER nurse with about 2 years now of experience. I wont need to take company housing 'cause I'll be living with my bf there. Any suggestions??? Good experiences?? I've read that florida is a hard state to work in. I've worked in some hard ERs so it wouldn't be anything completely new but of course not preferable to run my ass off and fear for my license every shift with crazy nurse/patient ratios but i've dealt with it before, would very much like to avoid that at all costs. I actually work in pearland which is a hop and a skip away from the Texas medical center and they have BEAUTIFUL 4 bedrooms in your price range!! Look at homes.com and make sure to select the for rent filter and u can use a map feature to pin point what houses are available in your desired location. I'm actually thinking of moving to pearland myself it's nice!

I would just call. Although I dont routinely have to go through calling docs, at my place of work they say for us to wait until 6 am to start calling docs/consults unless it's life threatening/very important. I'd say 6 am is ok but that's just my opinion. And if the doc gets mad oh well. Just document document document :)

Idk if you're talking about memorial Hermann in the med center or their other ones but I did a lot of nursing rotations at memorial Hermann northeast while in nursing school and I liked it. Everyone was nice and they functioned well. That's about all the info I have. And as far as things to do in Houston. Midtown and montrose are two hopping places! And yes it's very hot here. There's a lot of outdoorsy people here that like to cycle and run and all that.
