  1. I have an interview for a transfer from Oncology to Day surgery at my hospital. What are some of the questions I should expect to be asked? Bonus Question. What is it like working as a nurse in day surgery? I am incredibly excited for this. The manager was very very nice and is excited to introduce me to her team!
  2. Well I definitely planned to try and stay up really late so I could naturally wake up at 10 or so. Hopefully that does not backfire on me.... I however probably will have lab values written on a note card and may glance at them before going into the testing center. I have difficulty remembering a select few...
  3. A lot of people say don't study the day before. Well I don't care to stop early. I am testing late though and thought about a 1500 study stop time. That would still give me plenty of time to "relax". Is that too late or too early? I can't see not studying the whole day as I will likely be awake till approximately 0200 due to anxiety!!!
  4. My BSN program has a 98% pass rate for last year and they didn't hold anyones transcripts. Some programs just really prepare you.
  5. So after a long grueling 2 years I am finally done with nursing school!! YAY!!! Anyhow so now I'm starting to think of ways to study. I plan to do two to three systems a day just depending on what they are and if I struggle with them. So we had a review course called Hurst. It was extremely helpful and I plan to study content from that. But my main question is one how do I best develop a studying plan? How many hours a day should I do? Can I take a day off for rest? What are the best question banks? How many questions should I do daily? Let me just say I wasn't a straight A student. I got mid 80s always and a few As here and there. Thanks for taking your time to read and possibly answer!
  6. Typically in ICU settings they like you to stay 2.5years. This is because it takes approximately 18 months to train you fully. Then you need to add in at least 1 year of knowing full knowledge and potentially applying it. Now I'm not saying everyone takes that long. But hospitals around me that have ICUs want you to sign away at least 2.5 years.
  7. This might be a stretch but one thing that popped into my head regarding the confusion was "has she had any urine output". I don't recall seeing it but that could cause some acute delirium..
  8. Thank you! I guess I feel slightly bad about leaving my workplace now when I hardly work at all. My husband says I need a break to relax and to study. I think he wants me to pass on the first try so I can start working! Ahhaha! I have heard amazing things about Uworld. I havent personally known anyone who used it just see it on here. At my school we use Hurst review which I hear is super hard.... i was going to take 2-3 days and review every system and take every question I could. I really worry about forgetting some of the content..
  9. Just curious what others in the past have done. I already have a job secured as an RN when I graduate. My manager said it will be PRN at the start. I also work PRN as a CNA at another hospital. I want to put my 2 week notice in for my CNA job. But I only work 1 time again in the next 2 months. Should I put it in for that date or should I attempt to work some shifts for money? My husband says I can take some time off if I want so money isn't our issue. Just curious if others advise to take the time off to study.
  10. If i told you how bad i want to live in north dakota or south dakota you wouldn't believe me! I have some weird love for those overlooked states! Me and my husband talked about it earlier this year and the deal breaker was distance from family with the holidays. Well now hes done and wants to move as far away as possible. What is the starting pay for new grads out there? We would definitely need to have a sign on bonus. If we move we'll be paying two mortgages until this one sells. I appreciate your comment greatly!!
  11. So I'm sure you've seen this question a few times and I'm sorry about that... I currently live in TN and due to some family issues me and my husband are ready to get on a flight and get out. Realistically I like mountains and I also like seeing all 4 seasons. I'm happy living somewhere rural and don't particularly care to be in a magnet trauma 1 hospital or anything. I'm really happy just working on a med surg floor in some country town. Thing is I don't know how to look for these jobs elsewhere. I've already got a job offer here that I could take but if he wants to move I need to start applying. We need to find a house or rental living facility of some kind. Any cities or states that are recommended for simple living couple to move to? Looking forward to responses!!!
  12. Thank you. I never thought to think of it that way!! Ill keep that in mind when looking for positions!
  13. I'm in a BSN class. Our instructors keep informing us that hospitals love hiring students from our program but graduating without a job scares me.... I currently work at a hospital as an assistant but I was just informed they only do new grad hires in June and we graduate in December. For me that is way too long to wait... I just have this timeline and I'm getting way too hung up on following it these days... I know a lot of the hospitals around will hire if you haven't done the NCLEX yet but some won't let you begin orientation until you have passed. That scares me because that seems really rushed. Some hospitals just won't allow you to work with patients until you've passed.
  14. I just started my last semester and I'm so excited that graduation is near! I keep browsing jobs thinking that's what I'll want. I do it to keep me going I suppose. I've been reading forums where people said they graduated and still no job. I remember when my friend graduated last year she didn't get a job until the month of graduation. While others had offers much sooner. They have recruiters coming from hospitals to talk to us. On those days I plan to dress business professional in hopes I stand out from my other classmates. I'm doing my preceptorship in the hospital I hope to work in but not exactly the floor I want. I still plan to hopefully wow them enough to give other nurse managers good word. I'm not going to apply until they say we can but I feel it'll become a dog eat dog world at that point.... that really terrifies me..
  15. I would not waste money on a second degree that you may or may not get to use or find employment. Apply to every single program that you would be willing to drive to. Apply for ASN programs. Thats what i would do. Do not give up so easily
  16. Ok so I instantly would have picked infection. Only because the other answers seem like you're reading too into it. I do understand though that there are no signs of infection so she really should have put risk for. However currently being in nursing school I've got some talks from nursing instructors that say well you would assume because in the NCLEX/testing world everything is perfect... which is a bunch bull.... But i think your argument is valid but I doubt the instructor will change her view point.
  17. I've started a few new jobs in the past where I had a vacation already reserved. I would often times tell them in the interview if I felt it went well enough to bring it up. You already have the job so I would just contact them asap. More times than not they say yes. However, I've never had benefits and all that so I don't know how that will effect it. Also, about your wisdom teeth. First day is the worst. The next two aren't grand. I had 7 teeth removed at once though so I was not too great after.... just eat some soup and know itll be over soon!
  18. Hello so soon I will be able to start applying for new grad positions. There is one area I particularly want to work in. However I currently work as a CNA in a hospital. They have told me numerous times you have a job if you want it. But thats the thing.... I don't really want it. How do I say nicely "I'm waiting to hear back from other positions".. without giving them the wrong memo. I don't want to throw away a job I can have for a job I may never get... A lot of my instructors keep telling me you'll get plenty of offers never think that one job is all you'll ever be offered..
  19. Why yes I've done this before! Why do you ask?
  20. That was exactly what I told her. Plus you can discuss why you thought B was the answer. Sometimes it's not that what you answered is incorrect but its not the BEST choice. I also told her if it's not know material then you don't know it. But if it is getting confused on something or poor choosing than that can be fixed by going over it. I always review exams I do very poor on because I want to know what really went wrong in the test.. did I just not prepare enough or what? A lot of the time you see that you choosed a stupid answer when if you would have just read closer you could do better. I told her undrrline top things in the question. I told her dont answer a question if you're unsure. I always go from right to wrong. So if I don't mark it then I won't second guess myself.
  21. Well when i see my grades now if I was to fail a test this semester and we changed our habits. If it didnt help her I'd probably just say heeyyyy can we do it how we did it before. I know the main thing is I'm teaching her the material and that's why I'm grasping it so well. I did well when I taught my husband even though he gave two flying flips about what I was saying. But here's the thing I read the book before and she says she does too so I trust she does. So I have things that I've read in the book then I pull out powerpoints and we just discuss through it. I stop if something is a bit more intense and say we aren't going anywhere till we understand this. Then after we've ran through our chapters I do a quiz with her. So for example a child comes in with abdominal pain what do you do? And she'll ask all these questions to get more info. She'll tell me with what she asked what she thinks it is and then she gives me other things it could be. Then I'll give something up and she'll be able to get what I'm asking for. She knows her stuff so I don't know whats happening between studying really well the night prior and taking an exam about 15 hours later.... I don't know if after we say goodbyes if she goes home and lounges andthat's great but I always study more. But I dont really want to change how we study because I'm doing really well for once... that might be selfish and in the end I might just be teaching my husband if I want to continue to do well...
  22. Thank you so much for all of your advice!
  23. No no not pregnant. Shoo couldn't handle that right now. I currently work as an aide at a hospital anf I was just unclear of what they gave or how they gave it. So I have already been working there over a year but still thankfully not pregnant. It's silly I ask but I always think about the future. I'm really wanting to work in Postpartum care rather than what I do now and I would have to change hospitals to get that setting.
  24. I have about 3 places in mind I'd like to work for. How do I get time off? I work somewhere they say if you work full time you get 12 weeks PAID. But everywhere else is saying you have to use vacation time.... so you're telling me you get 6-12 vacation weeks a year now? I dont think so.. so anyways why am i hearing so many different things??
