Computerized MAR programs
Hi Nurse t You sound like you have the same situation I do. I am the only nurse in the facility with 250 inmates. Everyone wants something. The CO's Do the med passes. I have a company in ALA the UPS's my meds and sends me the MARS with their stuff already on them. Where do you get your med fills at?Local Pharmacy? I use to have it like that but the pharm company I use does all that now and I just put them in drawers for the CO's. I have been doing this job for 3 years and feel lost. I am on permanent lone from the local regional hospital so my providers are ACC MD's and APN. If you get a moment sometime, email me and tell me somethings you do to deal with the crap at your [email protected]

What is your most outrageous medical emergency repsonse in a correctional facility
I was filling the med drawers in the nursing office when I heard the booking officer call over the radio that she needed backup. The Shift Sgt called back to ask what the problem was and the booking officer raised her voice in a quiver and said "I need someone here now". The tone of the voice had me going out the door. By the way, I am the sole nurse in this county jail. When I got to booking, she pointed at the drunktank and there was an inmate lying on the concrete just the prettiest shade of blue-purple I had seen since the morgue. Had a good strong pulse and when I moved his head, got an exhale but not an inhale so had to give a few breaths. He pinked up immediately. EMS arrived approx. 15 min later. Come to find out , the D**ba** had been pulled over by a trooper for speeding and thopught he should get rid of his narc stash. The rest is history.Craziest and scariest-CO's reacted very well but took me a few days to wind down.

Denying Meds
I am not sure where you are getting making money off inmates with mental illness. I do back flips everytime these individuals get released or sent to the pen. My budget has skyrocketed because opf drugs like Zyprexa, seroquel and Cymbalta. County government loses all the way around in this and there isn't anything that can be done. Also counties aren't the ones placing the charges, it is individuals, family members thinking jail can help their family and business trying to keep patrons safe.
