  1. You'll do fine! PVT is a trick where, after taking your boards and receiving your email about you completing your test, you can try to re-register for the exam and if you get the screen that says you've already scheduled this exam or similar, then you've probably passed.
  2. I used ATI, Saunders NCLEX Comprehensive, Kaplan's Prep Plus , and Lippincott's alternate format books. I followed the Picmonic 4 week study plan but I studied for 5 weeks.
  3. I passed! Woohoo!
  4. Crossing my fingers and praying we passed! Please update me when you find out!
  5. I took my NCLEX exam today (June 19, 2018 at 8am). I had 94 q's, a lot of SATA and Leadership q's. After receiving my email saying I completed the exam (about 30 mins later), I did the PVT trick. I got the "good pop up" but I'm so nervous! Will update when I get my quick results.
  6. I'm scheduled to take the NCLEX-RN in mid-June as well! Best of luck to all of us who haven't tested yet and congrats to all who have and passed!
  7. í ½í¸‚Thanks! People always say I'm short winded and straight to the point. Living up to it still lol
  8. Hello everyone! It has been awhile and I thought that maybe I should give an update. The job I was doing in my first post I am no longer doing. I was at first a second shift LPN in a long term wing of the facility I worked at. After about 6 months, I was able to move up to first shift. A few months later, I had the privilege of moving from the long term wing with nearly 20 residents to the rehab side with 10. I worked there from July 2015 to May 2017. Along the way, I worked for home health for 6 months. I then applied for a supervisor position in May 2017 at an assisted living facility. I also entered into an LPN to RN transition program in May 2017. In June 2017, I began working in a hospital (I had been applying for hospital positions for awhile to get experience but kept being denied. I ended up applying for an extern position and when I went in for the interview, the manager hired me as an LPN because it would be an easier transition to RN). In January 2018, I left the supervisor position at the assisted living because I was entering my final semester of nursing school! I graduated May 3, 2018 (as #1 out of 27 of us with a 3.8 gpa!). I have scheduled to take my NCLEX-RN already and will continue to work as an LPN at the hospital until I pass. For study tools, I am using Lippincott's Alternate Format Questions for NCLEX-RN, Kaplan's NCLEX-RN Prep Plus 2018, the ATI Comprehensive NCLEX-RN book, and Picmonic 4 week study plan. I am also using online ATI website and Kaplan online. So this is just an update and I'm asking for prayers! Sabrina, LPN
  9. And thanks to all you lovely nurses for the congratulations! They are greatly appreciated! í ½í¸Ší ½í¸Ší ½í¸Š
  10. Hello ASPIRING2BGREAT! I apologize for the late reply! But, actually, she didn't even want my résumé! I was actually shocked. I had spent hours and days making sure my résumé was "perfect" and when I told her I had a copy she told me don't worry about it. Weird but I did end up filling out paperwork which asked similar questions to what was on my résumé, like college, references, license number, and my personal info.
  11. Hello everyone! It's been awhile so I want to give an update and reveal everything I've learned in my first 2 weeks as a nurse. So, last Friday (7/31) ended my second week of first shift orientation.... And I worked by myself! It was quite an experience and I wondered if they were sure they wanted me to work alone The reason I say this is because just 2 or 3 days before that, I made a med error 🙈. I accidentally gave one resident her roommate's medicine. Thankfully, they included no narcs or anything that would affect the resident significantly. But, no matter the meds, it was a med error to say the least. Of course, I panicked. The nurse I was orienting with just kept telling me to calm down. When the unit manager arrived, she kept telling me to calm down, it was a mistake and every nurse has done it at least once. But that didn't make me feel any better still. Then, the DON came and her response!? "It happens to us all. I've done it, ______ done it, and ____ done it. Any nurse who says they haven't is lying. So calm down." But I still was panicking. I panicked even more when they say I had to call the residents daughter, who was her primary contact. I was too afraid to call, so the nurse I was orienting with did. She was on the phone for approximately 3 minutes when she said, "her daughter wants to talk to you." I started to sweat and feel dizzy. I just knew her daughter was about to blast me out. I picked up the phone and after a shaky "hello" her daughter said "Hi, Sabrina. This is ____, Mrs. ______ daughter and I just want you to know you're okay. I've been a nurse for 20 something years and I assure you I've made med errors. According to ______ (the nurse I was orienting with), you handled the situation as you should've. You got vitals, you reported the med errors, you crossed checked meds to know what adverse reactions to look for. I'd say you're on your way to being the best nurse ever. One who can admit their mistakes and do what needs to be done after the mistake has been made. Thank you." I was shocked. Couldn't believe that after I gave her elderly mother a cup full of wrong meds, she was thanking me. I instantly began to cry. But, all in all, I learned a lot that one day alone! So, I have 2 more weeks of second shift orientation and then I'll be on my own. (They give all new nurses 4 weeks orientation instead of 2). I'm pretty excited still, just a lot more cautious!
  12. Thank you sallyrnrrt! And thanks for the great advice. I can't express how many nurses have told me having a great relationship with my CNAs will make my job so much easier.that's one thing I have noticed about this facility. No matter what level of education, everyone talks to everyone the same. So far, everyone has been so nice and accepting!
  13. Thank you dianah! I'm going to try!
  14. Today was my first day at my new job! So far, I'm liking it. But I know it takes a few weeks of being shown the ropes to know exactly what all is in store. My preceptor is fun, funny, and very knowledgeable. Although I was hired to work 2nd (3-11), I'm orienting on 1st (7-3). I don't like this setup solely because I feel like I should orient on the shift I'll be working. But, I'm enjoying it. Just a little info about the job, it's a nursing center and Rehab, dealing with long-term and short-term care. I honestly don't know where exactly I will be working but I pray it's on the hall I'm orienting on because I've already gotten to know a few employees and residents. I am still kinda nervous because it's my first actual job in the medical field (I did an externship on a medical floor at a hospital from Nov. 2014 to May 2015 but now I'll actually be solely responsible for the patients). But I'm looking forward to this wonderful adventure. Just wondering, how long did it take you to get to know you residents? Ours don't wear any type of ID and although we have pictures in their charts, I'm still afraid of making the mistake of giving "Mrs. Smith" medicines to "Mrs. Doe"??? I understand it's only the first day but I know everyone has had first-day-on-the-new-job anxiety. Just expressing my worries openly lol
  15. Take a break! I did before I took mine and it was well worth it. I feel like people who study up until the test mentally exhausts their brains. So not worth it.
  16. New Nurse in South Carolina. Start Jul 20 and I'll be making 17.05/hr + shift differential {2nd shift} and weekend differential {every other weekend}.
  17. Thanks You! May I ask what county? I'm in Darlington County.
  18. Thank You! I need all the luck I can get!
  19. Hi SchnauzerloverP! I honestly am not the best advice giver lol. All I can say is study hard and start job hunting immediately after graduation. I wanted to wait until I got my license number before I went hunting but in the interview I was asked whether or not I had my license yet so I'm assuming that any interested can have a spot held? Not sure though. For NCLEX, I promise you that 99.9% of the people feel as if they have failed! I surely did. But I'd say to get up early, eat breakfast, and DO NOT study the day before. RELAX! I know you hear it all the time but, honestly, if you burn yourself out studying, your nerves will get the best of you! Good luck on all your future endeavors!
  20. Haven't gotten my first check yet but I plan on paying bills and getting new uniforms. With my externship, I did the same.
  21. Thank you! The journey will be tedious but well worth it!
  22. Long story short, I took the NCLEX-PN on June 17th, got my quick results that I passed on June 19th, and my license number was up on SC LLR by 7:30AM on July 7th. Well today (July 9th), I decided to go visit a few places to find a job. With resume and other important info on hand, I started out at 10AM. I had a list of 27 places to visit. I went to the first place and they didn't hire LPNs. Went to the second place, and their story was the same as the first. Got to the third place and was hired on the spot! I begin July 20! And guess what!? Despite what everyone told me, I DIDN'T get stuck with the night shift position!
  23. I just got my results and I PASSED!!! WOOHOO!!!!
  24. So I just took the NCLEX-PN and all I can do is cry! I only had 93 questions but there were so many drugs and priority questions, I doubt I passed! Those are the two subjects I struggled with the most and I studied them extra hard yet felt like I knew NOTHING once I got in there. Now the 48 hour wait to find out my results and another month and a half before I can reregister to take it. Ugh! 😢😢😢. I'm afraid to try the PVT because I heard it doesn't work anymore. Does it!? I really pray to God I passed. The struggles I've been through with nursing have seemed never ending. I just need some relief! After 5 years of nursing school for a BSN just to fail my 1st semester senior year, I need some reassurance that nursing is for me!
