  1. I interviewed for the NICU on Monday. According to interviewees, that was the only day they were interviewing for the NICU. I believe they interviewed about 8 candidates and I was told they will be hiring 2, possibly 3 for both the August and October start dates. The structure of the interview was very different than others I've had for nursing in the past. Very rigid, questions were pre-set, lots of writing on their part of every single word I said. However, the interviewees told me this is the one and only interview and they will make their decision by the end of the day. However, they route their decisions to HR, then HR contacts the candidates in 1-2 weeks. I was told the units are slowly beginning to call for interviews (just because I got an interview for NICU doesn't mean you missed your shot for ED, tele, etc). Hope this helps! Good luck everyone!
  2. My Uworld average was 76% and I passed NCLEX in 75 questions. I had repeat questions from Uworld :) Their questions are really good, keep your head up!
  3. I'm a student at SMU. Log on to SMURF and go to class registration for spring 2015... You san check out the classes you are taking in spring and the start and end times for each class. You can find your entire list of classes for your whole program and the semesters that you will take them by doing a simple search on the website. Also, listed on CANVAS, it shows the clinical rotation for ABSN and ELMSN students. Good luck.
  4. No problem! I wish you the best of luck :) I have read others on Allnurses talking about how their interview for SMU was different as a re-applicant. They said that the interviewer asked how they changed/improved their application to make it more competitive. Hope this bit of info helps!
  5. I'm sorry to hear your troubles have you tried contacting the school about your wait list position to double check that it hasn't been moved? I actually have never applied to SMU besides this year, so I don't have any advice I could give you about reapplying. I'm sorry.
  6. Keep your head up! That's not too bad! And I'm sure the wait list will start moving soon since the deposit deadline passed. Which program are you wait listed for?
  7. I'm sorry to hear that! But it's better than rejection! What # are you on the wait list?
  8. When my grandmother got her RN (back in the late 1950s), there were "diploma programs". She has many years of experience in the ED, ICU, Tele units, and as a charge nurse in them all. But she was told that she had to go back to school to obtain a higher degree because hospitals would no longer be accepting/hiring diploma program RNs. This switch made ADN degrees the minimum qualifications, forcing many nurses to go back to school. This mirrors what is going on today, by making a BSN the minimum qualifications and no longer accepting ADN nurses. My grandma got over this hump, earned her BSN and kept working at what she loved to do. She eventually got her Masters because it was required to continue being the Director of the various nursing units that she was in. I am 22 and just got accepted in to graduate school for nursing. I asked my grandmother how she felt about HAVING to go to school for a higher degree when this was all happening to her. She explained it like this "by setting the educational level higher for nurses (from diploma program to ADN and not to a BSN minimum), it has made the roll of a nurse become a true profession. She explained that when she started, nurses were looked down upon by doctors as doing the "dirty work" and the doctors being the only ones who knew what was going on. My grandmother explained that as the nursing qualifications have gotten higher in degree levels, nurses have become better prepared and more competent. Now this isn't to say that I don't think it's odd what the hospital is doing to this original poster who started the thread, but my only idea as to why they are making this person go back to school to obtain a BSN or leave would be 1 of 2 things... 1. It's not fair to only higher minimum BSN nurses and be "grandfathered in" and 2... I'm sorry, but if a handful of the nurses below you have higher degrees than you, will you obtain the respect as a manager or nurse leader than you should be getting?
  9. Have your tried calling the admissions counselor to check if the class has been finalized? It's your best bet
  10. Myself and a few others have received early admissions! Hope you get good news soon!!
  11. I'm hoping all of the CMS applicants that haven't heard yet hear some good news soon!!!! Good luck :)
  12. Stay positive!! I'm hoping you get in!! :) what number are you on the wait list?
