  1. I'm in Jersey City. I am going to be attending the Rutgers program in the fall but wanted to get my feet wet and make some connections by getting my sub-cert until I can complete the program. I'll look into the local districts and see if there are any openings. Thank you!
  2. Hello! Does anyone know how one goes about getting a substitute nurse certificate in NJ? I am going to be starting the CSN program at RU in the fall, but wanted to work as a substitute in the mean time. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
  3. Lol, I stepped away from the Interwebs after my rant and calmed down. I woke up this morning to my brand new license number on the BON web site. :)
  4. Not exactly sure what I expect to get out of posting this, maybe just an opportunity to vent, or some reassurance, lol. I took the NCLEX-RN yesterday at 2pm. Computer shut off at 75. I don't even know what to think. I had a bunch of SATA, priority, delegation, exhibits, and EKGs. I left feeling like I had 150% failed. Did the PVT with a gift card at 12 hours and 28 hours (and maybe a few times in between, but we don't need to talk about my crazy, lol) and each time I got the "good" pop up. So why am I stressing? Outside of the fact that the test left me feeling like I was punched in the stomach, quite a few people in my cohort who already passed had their license numbers posted on the BON site by the next day. One even had their license four hours after testing! It's been more than 24 hours and it still says "pending" next to my name. Does this mean anything? Tell me something good/bad/indifferent, or tell me to relax, lol. Thanks!
  5. Amazing. Thank you so much!!
  6. Hello, My apologies if this has been asked before but I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of the NJ Board of Nursing's stance on nursing schools requiring an exit exam in order to graduate. I know they released something in 2011 and have seen links posted here in regards to their statement, however the link no longer appears to be live and I cannot find anything on their website. Thanks in advance!
  7. I am in my second semester at CarePoint. So far, I love it, but like all schools, it is not without its weaknesses. There is a bit of disorganization. They are in the process of being re-accredited, so they're throwing the "latest in educational research" our way to ensure that we pass and their numbers look good. It's a solid program, though. Most of the teachers and clinical instructors are amazing. The administration is incredibly approachable. The classes are like a big family. If you are in the day division you will start in 110 with one day of lecture and two days of clinical. Tests are given on Mondays (sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the evening). The schedule gets longer as you advance in the program. It is possible to work other classes around the nursing course, but you will be taking on a lot. People do it all of the time, though. You just need to have good time management skills and stay on top of everything. I don't know anything about Holy Name, so I can't make any direct comparisons. Good luck with whatever you decide!!
  8. Nice! Did you get any information from the school yet? I know there is a whole list of modules/powerpoints/videos that bridge students are responsible for prior to the start of the semester. There will also be skills testing on a sterile procedure.
  9. Hi Lilia! I am finishing up 110 at CarePoint now. You will be joining my class in the spring. Are you day division or evening? The day division is a great group of people and the students from the night group that I have met seem really nice, too. If you are on Facebook, I started a group for the class of 2016. If you search "CHSON Student Connection" you should be able to find it and join. Enjoy the rest of your time off! 120 is supposedly pretty intense but the instructors that teach the psych component of the semester are AMAZING, so that's something to look forward to!
  10. Good luck! I'll be at the open house so feel free to say hello and I can answer any questions you have in person.
  11. For me, I was lucky. I waited until probably a lot longer than you should (I applied in April) and made a mad and stressful dash to get all of the requirements sent in on time (transcripts, SAT scores, letters of recommendation, etc). So, I DO NOT recommend that you take the path I took. As for how I got accepted, I don't know for sure. I had a great track record academically (undergrad and Master's), my letters of recommendation came from two respected members in their fields, and I wrote a pretty decent essay. There are students in my class who have been LPN's for over a decade and there are people who graduated high school last year. I don't think there is one type of criteria they are looking for. We are having an open house at the school on 11/12/14. Stop by if there are specific questions you need answered!
  12. I can only speak for myself but I love it. Admittedly, Fundamentals is a walk in the park compared to the fresh hell that is Nursing 120 and beyond, so I may not be able to speak to the full experience of the school but what I can tell you is come prepared to work. The teachers are great but they don't hold your hand. You'll be doing a lot of self-study and will be expected to consistently remediate on your skills. There is little room for failure. The tests are difficult, but not impossible if you consistently study. Tutoring will be your friend! The clinical experience is varied dependent on your instructor. Some of us have been working with our own patients since the beginning while some of us are paired up with a classmate. There is a lot of busy work that goes into clinicals...we have to give pre and post clinical reports and hand in weekly clinical guides as well as concept maps. Additionally, we are responsible for submitting a Docucare file on our patient. Since you'll be joining us in 120, your rotations will include Psych and Med-Surg. Clinical will be two days a week for a total of 12 hours and lecture will be two days a week. That's about it. I'm in the day division and it's a great group of people. The students I have met from the evening division seem nice as well. Welcome to the class of 2016!
