Care plan help: Imbalanced Nutrition (Less than body requirements)
I'm going to recommend that you speak to your instructor because I feel you are missing the bigger picture. I am also a first year nursing student and very new to this, but I feel you need to focus on understanding the PES model for your nurses diagnosis. Also, from what I skimmed your pt's CC was N/V, with your Dx Aspiration Pneumonia. You acknowledged that they are receiving antibiotic therapy which means your pt has an infection. Your pt may be malnourished and underweight, but these are not the reasons why your pt came to the ER. Focus on the N/V being a clinical manifestation of your Dx. Also, for your goal, our instructor requires it to be SMART, and achievable during our shift, your program may be different.

CSULB Spring 2017
I received an email that my financial aid package was revised. Only the Pell grant was added. I'm guessing it's because I have Cal Grant A reserved, so I don't get the other grant. However, I went to the financial aid office and he said that they sent out the reward letters to us too early before they were complete.

CSULB Spring 2017
For those of you who accepted the offer already and are receiving financial aid. I got the email from CSULB that my financial aid package was ready and I logged into the MyCSULB portal to view it, however, I noticed that the only thing there are loan opportunities. No Pell grant, cal grant, EOP grant, or any other type of aid. I know I have a low EFC (0000), and I have always been awarded grants at the CC that I am at. Does anyone know if these get added later, or should I get a hold of the Financial aid at CSULB and see why I was only offered loans?

CSULB Spring 2017
Congratulations to all of you!! I'm so excited that I also got in! I feel like my world just went upside down. Now to focus on all the things that have to be done and to get prepared for the first meeting. I wish you all well and can't wait to see you guys.

CSULB Spring 2017
True, I should be optimistic, however the email stated that the cut-off was 9.15 and anyone who was under was invited as an alternate. My score was 9.12 so I am not going to be overly optimistic, and more realistic. I don't count myself out completely, who knows with the communication exercise, things could have changed. But I really don't want to get my hopes up, I have given up my spots from other colleges because the only college I want to attend is CSULB, one of the reasons is because I live very very close and wouldn't have to deal with driving, and CSULB has one of the best nursing programs in SoCal. I am wishing all of you luck in getting in, I've met so many great and smart people from the ones I met while taking the Teas, to the ones I met while doing the communication exercise. Also all of you on here have very strong scores and I'm optimistic that all or almost all will have no problem getting a spot. :)

CSULB Spring 2017
Guh, your post almost gave me a heartattack, i'm already waiting for the alternate list email to arrive.

CSULB Spring 2017
Yeah, I got the email too! I am just happy to be given the opportunity for this exercise. Now I'm hoping to nail this to improve my score! :) Good luck to everyone.

CSULB Spring 2017
I wish you the best, and I hope I am wrong....because you are really competitive and have a good shot at getting in I would think.
-
CSULB Spring 2017
Oh, I heard CSULB would only accept based on acceptance of SON and completion of the transfer requirements. If transfer requirements aren't completed even if you are accepted by SON you wont get accepted by CSULB. I could be totally wrong, just what my counselor told me.

CSULB Spring 2017
(tired) I'm curious on what others are submitting with the 10 point scale with the new changes to reading... This is the first semester of the change right? It is hard to see how different this semester is from the previous. It would be nice if we had some pool stats for using the reading test instead of math.
-
CSULB Spring 2017
The first page is given the breakdown, but I'm not that good at math but I'll tell you the way I did Science GPA + Cum GPA/2 + 2*(Teas overall in decimal) + 2*(Teas reading score in decimal) = score (out of 10)

CSULB Spring 2017
I appreciate the positivity, and I haven't given up complete hope. I think it's that I froze, and I was so nervous I struggled. My stats are Overall score: 9.12 Science GPA: 4.0 GE GPA: 4.0 Teas overall: 83% Teas Reading: 73% I only finished 75% of the reading test before it closed. I realized I had 5 minutes left of reading when I was about half way through. I will keep faith, but at the same time I can't have high expectations.

I rather take Anatomy, Algebra, and Micro then Chem
I found chem to be one of the easiest classes I've taken. Micro and Anatomy was a lot of memorization, Chem I found seemed easier, the math at the start can get a bit annoying but once you get it I feel it becomes second nature. Organic chem I found to be a lot of fun, but wasn't much of a fan of bio chem.

Salivary amylase... Is it bad?
I was reading an article about how teas have an inhibition on salivary and Streptococcal amylase which could lead to stopping slow release fermentation by stopping starch hydrolyse. I found it interesting, and if there was a way to provide the same result on a wider scale perhaps we could further the decrease in tooth decay.

Salivary amylase... Is it bad?
I like to ask questions to try and see how others view the topic. Some of the information I learned is a bit different than yours. What I learned is that there is no starch hydrolysis or maltose hydrolysis in the stomach. This is because the salivary amylase enzyme is denatured by the HCL of gastric juices of the stomach. The majority of starch hydrolysis is by pancreatic amylase and maltose hydrolysis is by maltase that are both in pancreatic juice which is secreted into the duodenum. Very little dietary breakdown of starch is actually by salivary amylase. And here my memory gets bad... Dextran is created mainly by S. mutans by sucrose, which wouldn't relate to salivary amylase, however, S. mutans can ferment maltose which would mainly be in the mouth by salivary amylase.

Salivary amylase... Is it bad?
Oh and the basis for my opinions on this matter is related to the lactase enzyme. Lactose intolerance in oversimplistic terms that may be wrong is due to evolutionary changes in our diets. People who do not have the production of the enzyme do not have systemic consequences other than side effects of the body trying to rid lactose. Perhaps we no longer need this enzyme and it may be doing more bad than good. I'm just trying to learn to add to what I have gone over in my prereqs. I apologize if this sounds really stupid.
-
Salivary amylase... Is it bad?
Probably not the best choice of words, but I'm looking for the pros of this specific enzyme. Its function is only for starch hydrolysis, which is extremely limited due to the acidity of gastric juice in our stomachs. When the conditions improve due to raising of pH from pancreatic juice we are given pancreatic amylase. Does salivary amylase actually serve a purpose, and my thinking would be inhibition of salivary amylase might have higher pros than cons, and could decrease poor dental health that could improve lives of many people? I'm only a prenursing student, and my thinking could be completely off, but I'm just curious and thought I'd seek out any ideas on the subject.
-
Salivary amylase... Is it bad?
I'm curious to know if salivary amylase is more harmful than good. Since it requires higher pH, it only seems to have a small effect on starches since the HCL in our stomachs makes it useless. Pancreatic amylase is important and seems to be the majority of what breaks down starches. However, starches that aren't fully consumed would be converted down to disaccharides which then would make them easily fermentable by bacteria of the mouth causing tooth decay. I'm probably off on this thinking, but I'm interested to know what others have to say.

Bought a TEAS study manual, Is it good?
If you can return it I would. You can keep it if you got it really cheap for a little practice. The TEAS V is ending August 31st, and the new TEAS VI starts. The official study manual from ATI for TEAS is probably the best book for the TEAS that I have seen.

CSULB Spring 2017
No, you do not include in progress. You only include withdraws. So if you did 30 units, but you withdrew from one class and took a W for 3 of those units, It would be 27 units completed and 30 units attempted. This is basically so they can see your progress.

TEAS Help, 2016
I haven't taken the TEAS yet, so I'm not the best judge on what you should do. What I am doing to study is taking different practice tests over and over. The TEAS study manual, TEAS A and B practice tests from ATI site, and any TEAS practice free test online. If I get something wrong, I flag it in the study manual in what section it is in and review it. The majority of what is covered should be review as it should have been covered in your prereq's. I would also not hope that the math section is going to be easier for you even if they allow calculators. From what I've heard (may not be true) is that they have reworked the math section so a calculate will be less helpful. Also, the test is primarily for Teas V numbers and operations with 4 algebra, and now it's changing to have 19 algebra. To get quicker at the math, I feel it's really just doing problems over and over again. The more you do the quicker you will get at doing it. If you're in the mindset that oh I will have a calculator, I feel you are setting yourself up for failure. Focus on learning, or relearning the information to where you are struggling and doing them over and over until you can get through the practice tests in half the time that is allotted. Is it worth it to pay the $100 TEAS study guide from ATI
Hello, Do you have a link to this on the ATI site? The only thing I knew they offered was the book and practice test online. If you are talking about the 115 dollar package that includes the Study manual (book) and the A and B practice exams then I would say the money is worth it as the practice tests give you a good indication to where you are and give you a detailed result telling you what you need to work on. It also allows you to get familiar with the way the TEAS is going to be.

Stressing over TEAS!
I appreciate the confidence boost. Some of the questions on the online A and B exam aren't even in the book, possibly expected to have knowledge, I did the Teas A and B again and got High 80's. I'm considering purchasing the A and B for another 88 dollars again, I don't know. I have done online tests and seem to get high 90's on them. I just wanted to be the best prepared possible. I have the test on Friday, so grrr, out of all my tests I've taken in my school this is the one I've felt the worse about. I know this is going to change once I enter nursing school, and I can't even imagine taking the NCLEX.

CSULB Spring 2017
When I applied they gave an email saying they were busy and it may take a week or two until they process the application. Since you only did it last week I'd say give it a little bit longer.
