Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2015)
Most likely one of your pre-reqs wasn't considered equivalent. If one of them was taken online that might be the one. If you plan to apply again next year it'd be worth trying to call and find out which pre-req was the problem. Whatever you decide, I wish you good luck on your way!

I think they probably just want your transcript with your final marks. Call admissions and make sure.

Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2015)
If this year is like previous years than the waitlist for York started 2.5-3 weeks ago. York has always filled all external seats first, then when externals were filled sent out acceptances for all internal seats (there are only 30 so that takes approx. less than 1 week). Then acceptances roll out from the waitlist and rejections roll out. If they're saying the program is full...then the waitlist has begun.

Immunization records
I didn't have to pay a single penny to get titres taken for MMRV and Hep B in Ontario, and that was last summer... I noticed most of the replies here are from Americans. My school actually required all students to have titres taken even if we had proof of each vaccination. Quite a few of my classmates were surprised to see their immunity either wore off or was never acquired, despite previous vaccination. Check with your school, because it might not be worth the trouble of getting your records if you're going to end up having to take titres anyway. If your titers show you're immune, you won't need to be revaccinated. Also, at my school, even if you got revaccinated, you still had to have titers done again 1 month after, to show the vaccine was effective. So definitely check with your school.

If you live in Toronto you have to pick up a form from the NPCO, otherwise just go to your local police service. But PLEASE don't waste your money, don't get your police check done before August!!

York's nursing program was technically "full" by June, but people were accepted from the wait list up until September! I know the wait is horrible, but hang in there!

WAIT to do all this. DO NOT do it before August! Your CPP is your clinical preparedness permit, you have to complete it so you can attend clinical. Police check, mask fit, etc is all apart of it. They will email you more info on it. You should WAIT until at least August to get that all done because every time you book an appointment with Synergy, you'll be charged $36. If you wait until August, you won't have to renew anything again until next August, so you'll only pay that appointment fee twice. If you do even one of those things earlier, you'll have to pay that fee 3-4 times, instead of just twice (and also means you'll have to pay to renew, for example, your CPR course more often)! That $36 fee adds up, especially on top of scrubs, stethoscope, etc. Don't be too eager, you have until October to complete your CPP in first semester. Save your money!! The one thing you can get done earlier is your titres for MMR, Hep B, and Varicella, since you don't have to renew those (despite the confusing instructions on the CPP, you need titres for ALL of those, even if you have proof of immunization). And you will have to renew your CPR and mask fit test...but wait. York does CPR and MFT on site as well in August and September. If you live in Toronto it might be good to send your police check request sometime in August to be safe. I know this might be confusing because I can't explain it all right now but trust me, I've been through this ordeal.

Unfortunately, generally once you receive an alternate offer to another program you're no longer considered for the program you applied for. Very sorry to those of you who didn't make it in this year. If you're truly set on nursing, please don't give up! This is only a bump in the road. You can apply again next year or whenever you feel ready. I myself took quite the bumpy path to get here, and am now 1 year away from graduating from nursing school. :) Good luck to you in your journey!

Okay, that might be accurate then.

They do rank applicants based on GPA. I only said they don't seem to weigh sessional GPA over cumulative GPA or vice versa. Both are important.

Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2015)
Not true. I'm in the program. People got in with mid Bs overall but they had mid/high B+s in the last year of credits.

They look at the transcript your school sends them. They don't convert your GPA. Based on what I've seen over the years I don't think York really has a pattern of weighing cGPA vs GPA.
-
Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2015)
Yes but they also consider cumulative GPA.

No decision yet means exactly what it says. If you are rejected, your application status will be updated to reflect that. Why do you think you don't have the right pre-reqs? If it's because of that list posted, it's outdated. Best of luck getting into the program!

York Second Degree Nursing Fall 2015
York's 2nd entry BScN admissions undertakes a more comprehensive examination of course equivalencies when processing applications so if the prereqs you took cover essentially the same content as those courses do/did you should be fine! PS: since I was the one who posted that course equivalencies list here I will apologize for the confusion it's caused!

York looks at your overall GPA and your GPA in your last 1 year's worth of credits.

Universities: IEN to RN Programs
Clinical placements are arranged by the schools.

Universities: IEN to RN Programs
The only question I can answer is that yes, both schools are accredited with the CNO which means you will be allowed to write the RN licensing exam (the NCLEX, the CRNE was replaced this year). Baccalaureate Nursing (RN) Programs - CNO Which program is better for you depends on what you're looking for. Do you want summers off? Or would you rather study through the summer to graduate earlier? Where do you plan to live when you go to school? That's important when considering commuting to school and clinical. Are there differences in what time of day, or how many days per week courses are offered? Etc. I don't know the answers to these questions, my point is to think of what's really important to you and research those qualities.

The bottom one without "(Seneca)" is definitely 2nd entry. Congrats on the acceptance! If this was on myfile it updates sooner than OUAC.

I'm still in second semester, so I can't comment on the community placement. In retrospect I actually thought this was the case but thought it better to be safe than sorry. Glad everything is okay!!

The nursing program at York always gives students 1 day off per week. In 1st semester you'll have 4 days of classes until clinical starts, then 3 days and 1 day of clinical after (8 hs, LTC placement). In 2nd you have 3 days of class and 1 day of clinical (12 hs, rehab placement). 3rd semester is 2 days of class and 2 days of clinical (2 8 hour shifts, med-surg/acute care placement). Beyond that I'm not sure of but I believe in 4th it's 2 days of class and 2 days of clinical (2 6 hour shifts, community placement) but I'm not 100% certain. 5th semester again I'm not certain but it's one day of clinical and I think it's 1 12 hour shift again (peds OR mental health, you can pick your preference but might not get it). I'm not particularly certain of this one either. And 6th semester is full time ~38-40hs a week in clinical + an online course (this one I am certain of). Clinical in 1st semester starts in mid October but all other semesters starts in the 2nd week of classes. Realized after posting this that I already said a lot of this

I got this from the admissions page the same day I posted it. I would contact the program for clarification if you believe the courses are outdated. It could also be that UofT changed some course code #s relatively recently. I know they are pretty picky with which stats courses they accept though...

It is still VERY early for York acceptances. I'm confident only a small portion of seats have been filled at this point. A lot of acceptances are given through April-May, and for internal applicants they don't even begin sending out acceptances until late May. The wait list usually starts in June. We had acceptances from the wait list up until September.

On your last point, you absolutely cannot set up your own placements. I'm pretty sure most if not all nursing schools in Ontario have their placements arranged by the Health Science Placement Network (HSPNet). It is a very organized process. Waterloo is not in York's placement area. The only way you could get a placement in Waterloo for your final practicum (only for that one) at York is if you maintain a B+ average overall with at least a B+ in each of your clinical courses, but even then it's not guaranteed York can secure you that placement. Where are you planning to live when you start school? I can tell you at York classes almost always start at 8:30 AM and for clinical you usually have to be on the floor at 7 AM. Also, generally where you get placed within the placement area depends on where you live. I don't know what Western's placement area is so I can't comment on that.
