Nurses are Not Doctors
I have not seen anyone call a DNP 'doctor' in a healthcare setting... Have you?
-
Nurses are Not Doctors
Can you tell me what are the states that NP have the right to admit their own patients in a hospital? That is why I like my state--we are still very conservative here....
-
Nurses are Not Doctors
When are DNP going to demand to be called doctors in healthcare settings? When are they going to demand to have hospital privilege?

Nurses are Not Doctors
This NP put it better than I can...

Nurses are Not Doctors
I know it's a race to the bottom.. As long as you can come with stupid studies that claim 'equal outcomes' (whatever that is), these legislators will make you become physician-like... However, they will demand care from a physician when their love ones are sick... I guess the fake physicians are for the masses...

Nurses are Not Doctors
Ok guys/gals... I will be busy studying for my psych shelf exam, I will come back in a few days for another 'spirited' discussion...
-
Nurses are Not Doctors
I know multiple FNP/PA who did that...
-
Nurses are Not Doctors
Talk about someone who is complaining about me giving anecdotes...Lol... Anyway you made my point about these FM residents--that was why they were 'residents'--not full-blown physicians.

I guess they don't understand.... I don't have any personal animosity against NP... And I won't mind if NP practice medicine under the supervision of a MD/DO for a few years... You have NP/PA who work for a few years in FM, then move on to work in psych, then again move on to another specialty.... Do you really think the are the best way to deliver medical care when NP schools don't prepare them for that... A physician has to be board certified in one specialty, and no malpractice insurance will cover you if you are an OBGYN and you want to do ortho... I am glad you get what I am saying. I have no problems against NP, but when your leaders do not look at the big pictures, and think about only one thing, they might do damage to your profession...

Major university does not mean anything to me... I got my BSN at a good state university and after 4 years working as a nurse, I decided to back to school so I can become a NP. I looked at a couple my state universities NP curricula I thought they must require more than that... then I called a former classmate who did her NP at one of these state schools right after getting her BSN; I asked if they require some more prereqs and I was shocked when se said no... I knew she only took high school chem, no general bio etc... and she told me these classes are not needed... I asked her if i had to take grad level A/P and she told me the AP we took in undergrad was enough... I was shocked to say the least! I worked with a NP who became a physician (DO)... and I asked her opinion about NPs and she told me that NP can practice medicine, but she had very limited knowledge as a NP... and told me now looking back she thinks the NPs education she received was a joke (she was a NP for over 10 years, really)... It was amazing to hear that from a former NP... It was then I started doing more research and talked with physicians who have NP in their practices (they were very candid), and found out that NP was not for me... I just don't want to practice medicine, I just want to have the knowledge to practice medicine.

I consider all NP schools diploma mills unless they change these curricula..

Nurses are Not Doctors
Not in every industry... Med school is different!

Nurses are Not Doctors
You guys think your bogus studies along with screaming 'equal outcomes' from the roof of a tall building will make it so...You might fool some people with these nonsense, but you won't fool people who know about medicine... None of you have answered the concerns of that poster (post #487)...

Nurses are Not Doctors
A frat boy? Wrong... I think undergrad stats is required by state schools in my state to get a BSN... I even took Stochastic model, which is on a league of its own... I am not doing a contest here about classes and so on... i know a little bit about research since I am doing research now in med school and I might publish if I am lucky... It is not about that... It is about a profession that is taking the wrong turn and one can only get way with so much... Good luck if you think your profession is heading in the right direction...

Nurses are Not Doctors
I really need an NP to school me on scientific process...

Nurses are Not Doctors
A one-to-two year residency would be a good start, but they need to do more than that... I would be the first one to admit a couple of the med school prereqs are not needed to practice medicine, but a lot of it are important. The human body is very complex and one need to understand it at a cellular level to be an effective clinician... I know a lot stuff in medicine can be pattern recognition, that is why a formal residency is important; however, pattern recognition won't take you that far. I think nursing needs people like you.. people who don't drink the cool aid and can look at stuff in a very objective way... I understand everyone want to defend their profession, but people should speak up when your leaders are doing egregious stuff... Look at what has happened to law school... NP education needs a MAJOR overhaul...

Calm down... Evidence-based nursing... Lol. Guys/gals you know what I am saying is true. If you really think that someone can practice medicine by taking a few classes online (post #438) with 600 hours at a doctor's office, something must be wrong here... It is not about you/me... It is about the patients... Don't try to follow blindly your leaders and look at the direction your profession is taking...

I guess there is one that they have not indoctrinated yet... Do yourself a favor--look at the curriculum of the school you plan to go to and use your common sense to see if it will make you competent to practice medicine without supervision... In post #438 there is a NP curriculum (online degree) and a PA one, compare them and you will understand where I am coming from... I am not even comparing NP to MD/DO... Since you were interested in med school, you will be shocked to see who will be your NP classmates... Boy! I did my BSN with some of these folks who later became NP... and when I think about them practicing medicine.. All I can say is wow! I guess it is a race to the bottom... Anyway, I have some comfort knowing there are some physicians like my cousin and some of his colleagues (yes, they talk about you) who don't take these people seriously...
-
Nurses are Not Doctors
I am NOT trolling... Most med students and physicians are concerned about the trajectory medicine is taking with wanna-be physicians that want to practice medicine with no supervision...

Nurses are Not Doctors
Untrained med graduates? They have more clinical hours than NPs in 3rd and 4th year of med school and yet they don't let them practice medicine. On the other hand, they let the militant NP practice medicine in some states w/out supervision. I think it's only fair to let them practice to the fullest extent of their knowledge, which is not remotely comparable to NPs whose didactic knowledge is laughable....

Nurses are Not Doctors
Medical school graduates could go directly to patient care in Missouri under proposal I hope other states copy a page from Missouri... I want to see who these physicians (mostly Foreign Medical Graduates and some International Medical Graduates i.e US citizens) will be competing with...since after all they are better suited to practice medicine than NPs.

Nurses are Not Doctors
I used to work in the OR and there was a spine surgeon who never wanted a CRNA in his case... He always request a MD/DO anesthesiologist. After looking closely at these NP/CRNA curricula, I understand why he was doing that....
-
Nurses are Not Doctors
Last time I checked, NPs are midlevel providers (if I can call them that).

Nurses are Not Doctors
This is what physicians and future physicians think of you guys/gals... They think you are jokes...
