  1. You were suppose to be at McDonald's at that time. Well done on your quick thinking and non hesitating.
  2. I am sure there are far more experienced here to give you advice however i recently passed the NCLEX with Kaplan in april and this is what worked for me. I bought the international package and i followed it to the T. I got the books in the post and i read the entire book of basics making sure i understood it. Then i read the other books and did the nursing calculations. Basically i followed the Kaplan format. I started at the end of January and sat middle of April. i did my nursing about six years ago. I was working full time. The key is to keep focused on what you want. I will be the first to tell you when you are sat at that computer even whith the tv off and no one around you will find distraction, especially if you have not studied for a while. But keep focused and think of how much the Kaplan package cost and how much it will cost to re examine. You can do it.
  3. The difference between the diploma and the degree rears its head when going for more managerial positions and when it comes to further education, otherwise there is no difference, because the practical skills of the two are the same. a lot of students tend to do (i think either 18 months or 2 years) of the diploma and then transfer to the degree if their grades are good enough. This is because you get the bursuary throughout the three years on the diploma but not with the degree I think it would be discrimination if the hire someone because of either doing the diploma or the degree. Besides your knowledge should show on your interview day, you could have all the Bsc behind ur name and still be crap clinically.
  4. I have two friends with experiences of getting resistered with AN Board. Both were mental health nurses. the first studied at an english university for mental health nursing and whilst working in england tried registered and it took it 6 months because of lack of communication between the usiversity and an board, it was sppeded up because because he kept pestering them. the other friend has been trying since september 2005 with still no luck. he is more passive and could not be bothered, again the problem is lack of communication between the university and an board for transcripts. they are both irish, so i could not give u advise on hospitals that sponsor. however, they are very friendly so all u need to do is find the number of the hospital off the internet and give human resourses a call. when i was trying to arrange my overseas placement i did the same. good luck in ur search and i hope to follow you soon. you should consider cork though it is more beautiful and lad back. why go from one city to another.
  5. i agree. be yourself, have your documents organised and although not necessary formulate questions you want answered. good luck
  6. why would this be an option while the woman is labouring. if there is fetal compromise would it not be quicker to carry out a csection that would take minutes.
  7. If i'm not mistaken u will be entitled to free maternity care (i hav to be honest and say i dont know how the military works and whether he is considered employed by the us government and therefore not coverd). however once u hav insurance your maternity costs should be covered by them, though you would have to read your terms and conditions. In my last hospital circumscisions were carried out on males (privately) it might be worth u looking at a few hospital websites and giving them a call if ou are worried about this. in my current hospital a c section is offerd to women with previous sections. the choice is always yours, the information is given to you so u can make an informed decision. I can only imagine the internal dilemas you are goin through. All i can say is you are and will be welcomed to the UK whatever you decision. we are very friendly
  8. hi. just to add my 2 cents on da matter. yes the portland is private but it is not the only private hospital. Queen Charlotte's in Hammersmith and St. Mary's in Paddington (both in London) offer private facilities. These are not the only ones but of these I am definite. In terms of free health care you have to be resident in the uk, either workin or studing or from another EU member state. but this is not usually enforced. I wish u all da best on ur future move.
