  1. Anyone hear back from Pediatric Acute Care yet? I had my interview on the 28th but no word yet. I'm hoping each unit is different for having first/second interviews!
  2. I got in May 6. Had 3.06 undergrad GPA with a Bio degree from UC Santa Cruz. Pre-req GPA was 3.82. Retook almost half my pre-reqs. Lots of volunteer experience. Got into NYU, UCLA, and University of San Francisco (although rejected from 5 other schools). Turned down NYU because it was too expensive for only a BSN. Hope you all get in! ^__^ Good luck on your path to nursing however it may be!
  3. @master641215 yes it's confirmed that there are only 4 spots. I emailed the nursing admissions, they replied saying there are 4 spots for the community/public health concentration and 6 students on the waitlist for that concentration. And thank you!!! :)
  4. @fancyeyes my cumulative was 3.06 and my pre-req was 3.82. UCSC bio major. I had lots of clinical and volunteer experience which I think boosted my app. GRE was a 5? But my personal statement was crap! Haha. If you don't get in this year, I'd suggest UCLA. They had 70 spots this year, which was way easier to get into than SFSU's 20 spots. Also you can apply to SFSU's BSN program, which has around 70 spots too, if you don't mind getting your BSN first! Good luck!!! @max79 I'm number 4 on the waitlist, and there are only 4 spots for my community/public health concentration. so basically everyone woudl have to say no before I got in! It's ok, I've already accepted going to UCLA. I'm pretty excited too! Goodluck with the program at SFSU. You sound like you're going to be a great nurse!
  5. #18 was admitted this morning also! goodluck to all those on the alternate list!!!!!!!
  6. Yeah...probably going to give up on SFSU. just got admitted to ucla today so I'm probably going that route. Good luck to everyone else on the wait list! Hope you all get in!
  7. Did anyone else get waitlisted?! If so what is your specialty and number??
  8. @fancyeyes congrats on getting waitlisted! What specialty did you apply for? I got waitlisted also. I called them and I'm #4, for the community/public health specialty.
  9. Has anyone heard any news today yet?!
  10. @hill3032 thanks for your info! Congrats on getting in!!! I am #18. I'm really hoping I will get in too! Didn't realize there were 70 spots this year, this makes it easier on all of us waitlisters!! ^__^
  11. I got an email today saying my application was forwarded to my intended graduate program...didn't everyone receive that email a long time ago!??! Can't even check my portal since it has never worked for me >_ Did anyone receive the same email today?!
  12. @futurenurseshelly no update here either =( My portal has never worked though, so I checked with SFSU grad admissions. They said my app is still being reviewed. I called SFSU Nursing and they said some acceptances have gone out, but they're still reviewing some. I applied to the Community/Public Health specialty, and I'm not sure if this will affect when we'll find out. I'm guessing it shouldn't, since there are only 20 seats! But who knows. Good luck, I hope you get in!
  13. Congrats @nicamama! Which program did you apply to, the GMSN or post-master's certificate?
  14. I just called them this morning to ask about the waitlist stats. They wouldn't release how many people were on the list. I asked about cohort 17, and the admissions lady (the one who answers the phone? Not sure who exactly) said NONE were taken off the waitlist! But my friend in cohort 16 has at least 3 people who were taken from the waitlist. Given these stats, I've begun to lose hope that I'll get in. @phillycakes - starting to lose hope I'll get in. Being admitted seems like a long shot now! I would definitely go if this were the only school I got into. But I'm really hoping on some others too... Btw I submitted mine last minute also and received a waitlist letter dated April 17.
  15. @max79 thanks for all of your input! All of what you said has made it even harder to make a decision though haha. Now I really feel stuck! Being a CNS for my community (I applied to that specialty) would be amazing. I think ideally that would be the best path for me, just looking at my interests from volunteering. I also asked my mom, who has been a nurse for over 30 years, about the CNL role. She described it more as a futuristic concept that probably won't be around for a while, especially when we graduate. So that seems to match up with the nurse you communicated with also. Argh! Well I guess I should only be torn if I get in to SFSU. So will you go to USF if you aren't admitted to SFSU? I got waitlisted at USF also now. Not sure how good my chances are since they don't rank me. But they also don't tell me until May 1 which really last minute, considering classes start May 19. Eek!
  16. @phillycakes I got waitlisted too. Argh - not knowing until May 1 is kind of crazy since classes start on the 19th!! Would you for sure get in if you got admitted? Do you have a backup? Also, does anyone how often a waitlisted student is admitted? Or how many students are put on the waitlist?
  17. @andradejac yes I hope so! I've been reading the old forums, it seems like they do take a lot from the waitlist. I'm below 20 so hopefully I get in! :)
  18. @max79 I can't decide what my first choice would be if I got into all 3 :-/ why is SFSU your first choice? They all have their pros and cons...UCLA has a highly ranked program that only takes 2 years, but I'd have to move to LA (I'm from SF) and I heard the commute to the hospitals would be awful. USF is expensive, but great because it takes 2 years and I could live at home. SFSU is a cheaper alternative, but it does take 3 years and they cut their precepter program. So, you would turn down USF for SFSU, or UCLA? Yes I think you missed the deadline for FAFSA. I would try to apply anyway to try and get something. No one really knows which school they'll get into yet, but they let you choose up to 10 possibilities. Good luck!
  19. Congrats @max79!!! That's awesome!! Funny because we applied to the same schools...I have yet to hear back from USF but got waitlisted at UCLA too. Sounds like you're in a great position though! Would be cool if we ended up in the same cohort.
  20. Hmm mine gets stuck too. Oh well I guess I shouldn't worry about it unless I get in!
  21. For people who applied to financial aid, have you received emails about an offer?
  22. Yep no prob. I hope you and I both get in!!
  23. Yes ABSN programs are really quick, some are only 15 months! But SFSU's not technically accelerated since it's 2 years long. Another drawback is for SFSU, you can only apply to one of their programs (BSN vs. MSN), so you can't apply to both. From when I last checked, Sac state cancelled their ABSN program but many of the CSU's have them, San Marcos, Northridge, etc. However there are other schools like CSU east bay and San jose that have a 3-year BSN, which seems like a waste of time if you could get your Master's in 2!
  24. For SFSU, you can get your BSN in 2 years if you have already graduated with a Bachelor's in another degree. These students are called "second bachelor students." The requirements are pretty much the same. Same exact GE's (for SFSU), but instead of GRE you need to take the TEAS exam, and no letters of rec or personal statement required. The odds depend on your app - are your grades more stellar than your letters of recs and personal statement? Is your TEAS score better than your GRE score? Things like that. BSN programs are more about "number crunching" if you know what I mean!
  25. First week of May doesn't sound too bad. That's just 2 weeks away! Seems like eternity now but it will go by in a heartbeat.
