What are the pros of getting your BSN?
Hey there, In my state, NC, they are trying to make the ADN degree a technical degree, to where CNA's would no longer be needed, and the BSN is the true nurse that they would hire. They are making it to where you would have to go the full four years in the beginning to get your BSN to be considered a professional nurse, and those that had their ADN would be grandfathered in, but would be required to get their BSN within a year or so. It really stinks how legislature likes to involve themselves in nursing, but in some ways it can be good for the patients to have more education behind that badge. I personally, do not like it...but we follow the rules that we are given...

Salary to expect as a new grad nurse
I was offered 18$/hr when I was hired and just found out that there has been a rate bump and we are going to be making $18.54...I'd say that is a pretty big bump...and I like it! North Carolina area... boy, would be nice to make what they start out with in Calif.

NCLEX says I am competent
Competent or critical thinker? I hate it when other people who aren't nurses or anywhere near the nursing field tell me that the NCLEX is minimum competency. Now then, if it is, then how come there is a nursing shortage? Hmm? And why aren't there more dumb people graduating from nursing school? We must be smart somewhere...minimum competency, I flick my nose at those who think nursing is easy and all we do is wipe butts for a living. Congratulations!!! You are more than minimum, you've passed that bugger of a test!

BCLS/ACLS/PALS certification
Heck yeah, make the hospital pay for it. Lord knows we've paid enough just getting through nursing school. Forget dipping into YOUR wallet anymore...And I am a slacker too, should be studying for the NCLEX but it's tomorrow so I really am not required anymore...HAHAHAHA. Good luck!
