New grad in LTC overwhelmed. Help!
Hi I just accepted a PRN ( no fulltime available in my area) position in a LTC SNF that has long term floor, memory care and rehab. Rehab is like med aurg really. Lots of admissions and discharges everyday. Well I started 2 days ago ( tommorow will be my third 12 hr shift) and I feel absolutely overwhelmed. So much to learn in so little time. I onky get 15 days of orientation and that is for all the floors - rehab, memory care and long term care. I am learning a lot of time managememt for med passes, treatments etc. Do you have any suggestions for me? I am so worried for when I will be on my own.

online np programs that find your preceptor locally
hi everyone I am looking for some recommendation for online np prgrams adut gero or fnp that help you with the clinical placements. I know so far Georgetown offers that but the program costs 84k. I think it is super expensive. Is Georgetown the online program that helps with this aspect? I am leery of going to a place that doesn not find your preceotors and then you have to withdraw if you ca't find the preceptor I would appreciate any feedback

Anyone a member of the sigma theta tau? I am a nursing student with a good GPA and the school sent me an invitation in sigma theta tau. Do you think that helps to get my first job? Or is a waste of money?

Can anyone help me with blood transfusion question
I just started my new med surg class and I have to do a blood transfusion in class. I am trying to remember the skill and please correct me if I am wrong: 1. I spike the normal saline bag with a y tubing.( the clamp is closed at this time) 2. I open the roller clamp and I prime the line with normal saline. After I have enough blood to cover the filter, I close the roller clamp. I will also attach the tubing end to the patients port. 3. I will spike the blood bag and open the clamp for the blood bag and open the clamp for the saline bag. Some blood will go into the saline bag? I saw that and that was weird. Is that true? 4. I open the main clamp and I let it run initially at 2ml per minute for first 15 min take vitals and increase to what the order says if vitals are ok. Redo vitals in the end.

New Nursing Student
For all new experienced nurses- I am in my second week in hospital for clinical rotations .i am going for my BSN. I feel I want to cry- so much I need to learn, so little I know. Now I discovered I am germofobe to.... Worry about getting hiv, hep etc Then today I had an experience- clinical instructor told me to do a blood sugar. Did it and in the end she tells me to put everything in the gloves and toss. Stupid me, stupid me, stupid me decides that I need to put the test strip in my hands at the end and of course I felt a pinch because the strip is pointy on all 4 ends. I was wearing gloves, and I did not see any blood coming off my finger. Washed my hands but now of course I freak out. My clin instructor says I am fine because I was wearing gloves and it is not that I poked myself with a needle. What do you think all you experienced nurses? Do you agree? Am I crazy? I need serious help I guess

Advice
I would love some advice from someone who went through nursing school( preferably accelerated 15 months) and can tell me how did you mention your sanity in it. I feel being very insecure and needing to study nonstop. I am anxious all the time and to the pout that it is semi affevting my marriage being that I stay up late in the evening to study and I am basically moody and just say mean words.this is so not me but this program turned me into this person:(

New nurse
About to start BSN but I am very scared. All I hear everyday is how this will drain me of all energy, I will be tired all the time and this is a bad proffesion. is this true? Do you regret becoming a BSN nurse?

Becoming a nurse
I feel at crossroads. I am a med tech in a lab and my husband and I are confortable financially. The thing is that I am not happy with my career. I do not really like what I do. I feel like a lab rat and I am just a worker that is not appreciated. my dream is to become a nurse and for that me and my husband will sacrifice a lot- time, money, savings. Basically what we got going for us in 1 year will be gone and like he said it will take us three years to be where we are now.this worried me. If you were in my situation would you pursue nursing. Would you do this again? Is this a great career in your opinion?

I am a lab tech wanting to become a nurse
I am wanting to become a nurse because I want patient contact, I want to help someone directly not in a lab running lab tests. i think I will feel much useful that way. I know I am useful now, but I will feel at least more useful. My end goal is more decision making so I will get my masters in np eventually. But for now, it will be working as an rn. I want to know what is what you like the most about your proffesion and what do you dislike? are patients respecting you? Are doctors respecting you? Do you feel you have any decision making ability at all or you just follow strict rule? That is the reason why I want np is for being able to run the show a little more .

New grad moving to california
I plan on moving to California after I graduate with by bsn in ohio. What is the entry level salary in ca? In ohio is 24. Is it hard to get the ca license as an rn if I graduated in ohio?
-
Should I go for nursing or physician assistant
So 18 months for the bsn plus 36 months for the np and 24 months.so it should take me about 7 years from beginning to end if I go part time. Does that sound accurate? Why did you choose np over pa?
-
Should I go for nursing or physician assistant
That being said what is that independence meaning? I can work on my own vs having a doctor approve for my work? everybody tells me is a no brainer go to pa school, but I think np has added benefits. It would take me 2 years to get bsn, roughly 3 years part time for the np and another 2-3 for the dnp. Is that accurate? Is np usually taking 3 and dnp other 3?

Should I go for nursing or physician assistant
I have so many conflicting thoughts guys. i work now in a hospital lab as a medical technologist and I miss tremendously patients, and acting "like a doctor" I know I want to be either a Np or a Pa but making this decision is so hard. to begin with, I need to maintain a job even if part time while I go to school. I have a bachelor already so my option is either going to an accelerated nursing rn serge and then a np school. With this option I could most likely work part time. with pa, I would have to quit my work and find some work, anything that is flexible and give me some dollars while I go back to school. biw this is the problem, the nursing program I want to go starts next September and the application for pa only ends next September so I would not know about it before I would potentially start nursing school. But it would only take me 2 years to become a pa and with pa would take me 2 years for rn and 3 years for np. also the cost of pa is high 50k but most likely it will get there with nursing too cause I am seeking two degrees. what should I do?

NP vs DNP
My area doesn't offer it:(
-
NP vs DNP
Did you go part time or full time? cause I am doing part time only.... oterwise I could do PA school and would only be 2.5 years, but in my situation I can't work at all. what did you do? which school did you go to?
-
NP vs DNP
Hi, Everybody so to start I am probably serious years before I will have my degree.... this is where I am and I am scared: I have a bachelor of science in medical technology and next August I will go to an accelerated BSN. After 1 year and 9 months, I will get my BSN. Then after I will work around 1 year, I plan on going back to NP school. Well, now this is the problem, I heard that NP's will have to get a doctorate, and just a masters does not suffice. People tell me why don't you go to PA school. Simply because I cannot afford being on only one salary for 3 years for how long is PA school. With all the nursing careers you can do school part time and is more doable. But is there a chance that the only way I can become and NP is to do the DNP program? Will the current NP's going to have to get a doctorate too? well 1 year and 9 months to BSn, then 1-2 years work then np school would be part time 3 years or dnp program part time would be 4-6 years. I am talking 10 years!!! I am only 27, but still I am so scared. what do you guys think?

working full time while doing part time accelerated bsn program
Wow that's it from the whole book only those chapters? you are the best. I really appreciate your help. My husband is an environmental engineer and travels a ton. Now I have what to do productive in the afternoon after work. I will start with those chapters. It is amazing to me how they skip out so many chapters. Also did you use that book in the first semester or second semester or both? I tried doing a search for the books at the library in kent state and looks like this book is used in two different classes:). Thanks so much! I owe you!!!
