Hospitals Firing Seasoned Nurses: Nurses FIGHT Back!
NFuser, Thank you for your many valuablecontributions and hard work! I also pray for strength and wisdom, and for all who face this kind of inhumane treatment (testimony after testimony). Yours sounded familiar and also sounds like how this entire area operates. I too am grateful for this discussion! Hope it will positively impact many Nursing Careers--soon, and patient safety. It's been a long time coming.

False Documentation
True story. It's getting more common.

Tired but would like to work
Tiredgirl19, I take a progesterone PO @ HS for calming effect, and use the Minivelle estrogen patch in combination therapy. Much more comfortable since then. As you know, it gets hot and humid in Asst Living. Energy level is great. Got Rx from GYN MD, now specializing as "mid-life" provider. Minivelle provides an add'l discount card for pharmacy. Best wishes with the foot care venture. Seniors and disabled have great need for this service in every facility type I've worked in. Not everyone signs up in time for podiatry if they come in monthly or they may have conflicting appts. I bet they would be glad to see you once you are cleared to visit different facilities!

Anxiety
Sorry that happened Viva. I wish you and others out there dealing with illness vs ADA the best. There are plenty patients who need nurses who understand exactly what they are going through. This is an asset in addition to the other many specialties of expertise you carry!!

Losing patience with residents.
Agreed, I have a similar situation where a Resident is faking a certain attack. It is very sad when it takes precious moments away from other residents. The cause is known but we still need some compassion/patience during said "emergencies." Until the issue can be resolved, I'm going to do my best in being proactive with other residents and give them time and attention so that when their care is interrupted, they may not feel as badly.

Has Anyone Here Ever Worked in Assisted Living?
Good to hear Westieluv. Besides, ALF salaries are known to be lower anyway. Best wishes!

Thoughts on the prevalence of name discrimination in nursing?
Agreed! After many rounds like you experienced, a hospital recruiter said in-house "networking" was key.

New Grad - Is HH nursing difficult to get out of?
I second this excellent insight. Also some HHC agencies have more pediatric clients than others. It would be great if you let the agency know of your interest in these cases for future experience value. It is true some HHC look for acute or LTC experience, but your clinicals and knowledge are fresh! Best wishes!

Looking for advice, just starting out as a CNA
I think you are on the right track. Some like the in-person touch, others not so much. In this area found it best to avoid staffing agencies, and to seek out more reputable places by word-of-mouth. I asked nurse and church friends also and found out more as to where to go and where to stay away from. Also got some referrals which helped land interviews so I have learned a lot in the process. Best wishes to you!

Problem with current job
While you may have some rights where the EEOC is concerned, it might be to your advantage to cut your losses now and move on. It is not usually worth the headache trying to prove what may or may not be true, especially while you are there trying to focus on your patients. It sounds like you are motivated, and the 6 years solid performance there is a good foundation for your next set of achievements. Wishing you the best.

Are LPN's going to be phased back into the hospital settings?
A staffing increase is welcomed in the hospital environment. I understand what the RN may feel being the only one, however, delegating pill meds dispensing saves time and more staffing often makes for happier patients, contributing to positive outcomes.

Should I take this route?
I felt called to Nursing and left an amazing job in order to gain apprentice experience. The studies were so demanding that it made working full-time very difficult. I hope you have tuition assistance with your current employer. If it were me, I would not make a move until passing the board exam. Best wishes to you!
