I am a single mother of 3 myself. My kids are 5, 6 and 9! Handfuls! Need a lot of attention. I know that starting school in the fall is going to take away some time with them. I sat them down when I finally decided to set fear aside and apply. i explained to them that Im going to need a lot of quiet time for studying and that there will be times that I or they will miss out on things because of school. I also explained to them what becoming a nurse can do for our family. I explained to them that this has been a dream and now is my time to pursue it. The wait for my acceptance letter was not a lonely one! All 3 of my babies were by my side and could not wait! As hard as it was, I didnt check the mail myself daily.. I let them do it when they got off the bus. The day it came, my oldest came running in and could not wait for me to open it. When I read it outloud they all JUMPED AND SCREAMED with joy! Im not sure they completely understand just yet about all the extra time Im going to need, but I do feel confident that everything will fall into place and work out. Keeping a routine is what will be best. The biggest thing is the support system! I have a very loving boyfriend who has said time and time again that he will be there extra for the kids and myself. As much as I need, he will do. I have a few really good friends that are excited that Im doing this and they too said they will help as much as they can. Anything is possible. My father went to nursing school when he was 32. My mom was working full time and then some as a waitress so the bills could be paid while my father focused just on school. I remember the days of not being allowed anywhere near his office area. I remember having to be quiet.. I remember missing out on a few fun things because mom was working and dad was studying. BUT! I also remember the bike rides he took us on when he did get a free hour or so. Any of his free time he spent with us. Those times ended up becoming some of the most special times of my childhood. Things DO and WILL work out if you have the passion and determination. Youre kids will follow suite. They will see all the hard work and be so proud of you. They will see that as long as you have the dream and are determined to get there, that you can do anything you want. (: Head up, push on. Prove her wrong! you CAN do this!
