  1. Let me also add this in: My current employer says I take my credentialing wherever I go and that's why I would need to pay it back. However, the part time job I'm taking has told me that they still have to get me credentialed with them (she also told me it was only $400). I wish they'd tell us more about this in NP school. Knowledge is power and I feel like I am good target to be taken advantage of simply because I do not know.
  2. Need some advice. I'm leaving my current job that I've only been at for a year. Unfortunately, I've had a lot of issues with the hours, had a baby, and have found a super part time job with great, flexible hours that actually pays more and that would work great with my kids. My current employer is pretty mad saying he credentialed me and I am going to have to pay him back. He said it cost them $6,000-$10,000 to credential me and I would have to stay 3 years for them to make up that cost... I have a good friend who is a practice manager at another office and said that's absurb and it doesn't cost that much. I didn't sign any kind of contract so I know I have no legal obligation to pay, but it still makes for an awkward work environment (working out my notice). I also feel terrible and am starting to wonder if he's lying about some of these details. Anyone have any experience with this type of situation? Anyone ever worked on the management side and know how legit is this credentialing cost? Also, I live in GA in case that matters.
  3. That was very helpful. Thank you so much! Sounds like it may be a perfect fit for my current situation. I may have some additional questions as I begin to look into specific agencies, but this gave me a great starting point. Thanks again!
  4. Following! Have been doing family practice for the last year. I like it, but I need more flexible daytime hours and have heard that home hospice is great for that, but looking for some more input. For me it's all about the schedule with young kids!
  5. For anyone who may can answer my questions: anyone doing home hospice? I currently work in family practice but need more flexibility with my hours... Thinking home hospice may be a good option. Let me know if you like hospice!
  6. Please update us! How do you like it? What’s your daily schedule like? How’s on call? Did your pay seem reasonable?
  7. So, I graduated from NP school about a year ago and took a job at a family practice. I like family practice okay, but I took a lower salary because I thought this particular job would have more flexibility with hours, days, ect. Well... I was wrong. They strictly want me to work 8-6pm. I have young kids and really need more flexibility. I'm even interested in part time but they don't offer that and with my $40/hr, it's really not an option financially. Any input on NP jobs that are a little less stressful and more flexible??? I've considered hospice, home health, ect. My background as a RN was ICU. I want to hear some personal stories before I consider quitting my current job.
  8. I'm currently a FNP working in family practice. I like my job but really struggling working a strict 8-5 pm job M-F. Very stressful. Not to mention I'm still stuck charting at home after 40 hrs, rarely eat lunch. I have two young children and my job is not flexible with my hours or days. I had thought about looking into a job as a home hospice NP where I would have more control over my schedule. Anyone have any experience with this? Was your schedule fairly flexible? Did you find more work/home balance? How about pay? Is it reasonable? What was your on call with weekends and holidays like? At this point, I'm not interested in more money. I'm interested in a better schedule to better suit my role as a mother and wife. Any input, stories, perspectives is greatly appreciated.
  9. Anyone who has already started have any advice on classes? Like which classes pull test material from books vs powerpoints, ect.? Which books we will actually need? Thanks!
  10. So I will be starting a nursing program next fall and I noticed that the schedule is basically classes and labs Mon-Wed and then clinicals will be the rest of the week. Are labs and clinicals the same. About how many hours a week are clinicals. I feel like that is a really big load having classes and labs from 8-5 3 days a week and then clinicals. Are the labs in nursing school as difficult or similar to say A and P labs? Do you do similar things in labs as in clinicals. Thanks!
