You can always go in as a Tech or Nursing Assistant for few months. That way they get to know you, and your work ethic while, you evaluate the environment to see if that is something that interests you. Hiring managers want to have their jobs made easier for them so promoting up from the ranks versus just having a name on the paper. It is a win win for both and I would start by making an appointment with a hospital HR and come prepared to talk about what you bring to the company and that you are willing to be evaluated at a lower position and pay for now. At least you'll get some pay.

I am starting this thread to get input from the current and the past students of DSN. I recently moved to Denver and I am looking to apply to nursing schools in the area. For the most part schools offering the second bachelors are the traditional state schools and community colleges. Then there is DSN. While combing the threads on this site and others I found a good mix of "this school is great", or "stay away!" opinions. So I wanted to ask more direct questions. 1. The belief is that if you apply, you get accepted - if that is the case is the school a for profit diploma mill which receives no respect from future employers? If I had a degree from CU or DSN on my resume would local employers discriminate (not openly of course)? 2. How were you received during your clinical coming from DSN? 3. What was the educational experience like? The BSN costs about $50,000 that is a lot for a future nursing salary. Again, I am looking for honest feedback. And I appreciate any and all of the time that you spend answering the question.

I just got an email advising me that I was placed in the alternate pool and that they have no further information. Does anyone know how many applications go into alternate pool?

How long is the accelerated program? I can't find any good infer on their website. Can anyone please explain the degrees being offered for students with previous degree? Also, this school seems very expansive, is it worth the cost for a job that might pay $60,000 after graduation? Any help is appreciated.

I had only asked about ANO so I assumed that to be the case, but may be that was a total for both ANO and traditional. That would improve the ads a little I guess :-)

I also applied for the January 2015 cohort. I called the office last week and the person on the phone told me that they received some 300 applications this time around, that's A LOT. Anyway, there is nothing to do now but wait. Good luck to everyone.

I don't think they compare scores. Each school requires their you to take the entrance exam for their school only. But, I don't know anything anymore :-)

The test is broken out into separate sections. Bio was one of them so I took it. The proctor was clueless as to what we were supposed to do and said to take all sections. The whole test was very basic (math, reading, chem) I just wish I read through some Biology materials before taking it. Without the bio section my score should be at least 90%. After I got back home I emailed the nursing advisor to find out if my score would be enough and she stated that she has absolutely no idea as to what the admission committee will be looking at. I just would like to get one straight answer from someone.

I scored an 86%. That was without studying for it at all. Now I wish I reviewed some of the Biology and A&P sections to get a higher score.I hope that will be enough. My GPA is somewhere around 3.6 - 3.8.

I am taking my HESI this Monday. Do they just take the average of all scores or do they look at each section?

I'm wondering what is the primary way that you intend on paying for GCU tuition? Since the program costs are so high outside of the scholarships that GCU advertises will you be covering the tuition with student loans or is there financial aid available?

Did anyone do their background checks yet? How long did it take?

Amberdawn85, I started my Patho. class at Rio Salado and have a question. Did you just have to read the text book, take a weekly quiz and write an essay? Was there any direction from the instructor? It just seems weird to me. Was your class like that too?

I am also curious if there are any guys that are applying for the fall, especially the St. Joe's track?

Once again, excellent feedback. I will be applying this weekend for the fall semester at St. Josephs. I have all of the prereqs. done other that path. and I will take that soon. If there is one positive that I heard is that St. Josephs is a good teaching hospital. One comment you did make that is not correct is that ASU does have a fast track option. The application deadline is sometime in September and the cohort starts in January and it is only 12 months versus 16 at GCU. Thanks for all of your input. You definitely did your research and seemed to have similar concerns. Glad to know I am not the only one thinking this way.

All good info ryleea1. I already have a BS in management and am changing careers. So far I have completed all of my prereqs. other than Patho. I will probably start in in the next few weeks at Rio Salado. I am torn between applying to GCU for fall 2014 or to wait and apply to GCU, ASU and U of A for their january 15 cohorts. There are so many links here that argue for each program, but very few give specific examples of what was good about it or what really made it terrible. I understand the administrative part is frustrating especially the financial aid, but I am more interested in the details of the programs itself. Additionally, I would love to hear from people that graduated from these programs and provide their feedback on the after school experience. Has anyone been discriminated for a job based on the school they attended? For example I know several people that got their degrees from University of Phoenix and were told (off the record) that certain employers do not respect these degrees and prefer their people to have traditional school experience. Has anyone had the same experience with regards to GCU?

Hello. I am brand new here. I will be applying to GCU St. Josephs for fall, 14. Does anyone know much about the reputation of GCU's program? Will it be difficult to find work after graduation? I was told that students who graduate with a BSN have a much better chance than the students who only have ADN. I would love to hear your oppinions.
