  1. That's good news, and also congratulations!
  2. No doubt about impressions, but it didn't sour me on the OR, I just have a new perspective about what to look for when I apply to ANY position in the future. In my interviews for a position I've applied to since I resigned, my questions about training and orientation were more effective at getting details about the process. From here on if there isn't a solid structured plan that's already been in place for a while, that has a history I can look into, I'm just going to pass on it.
  3. Does anyone know if Davita pays more for a BSN? I've accepted a position, but I'll be completing my RN-BSN later this year.
  4. Southern California, Riverside Co. I'm starting as a new grad RN in an outpatient clinic, hemodialysis only. $35/hour for the first 8 hrs, then time and a half for the last 4 hrs. 3 12's, so the average is $40.83/hr. Does Davita pay more for a BSN? I'm completing my RN-BSN program later this year.
  5. Every specialty is different, but a structured orientation is crucial for success of a new grad in any department. When I interviewed for the OR position that was one of the questions I had for the managers, what kind of training was in place to help transition from a new nurse to a competent OR nurse. The answers I got about what to expect were incongruous with what I experienced.
  6. I really think it depends on the training offered by the OR. I was recently hired into the OR as a new grad where there was very little structure to the orientation. For example, no skills or didactic portion, one of the techs would simply show you a machine set-up once quickly before the patient was brought into the room. There wasn't a designated preceptor, a different preceptor each day. There was no continuity to the procedures during training, laparoscopic one day, ortho the next day etc. My logins weren't activated until I reminded my manager that I was never set-up, several weeks into my orientation. When I started in the OR rooms, 8 weeks into orientation, I still had not started Periop 101. I resigned 12 weeks into my orientation, at that point I still hadn't started Periop 101. My experience was negative, but it didn't have to be. If the hiring OR has the resources and has a structured plan for orientation of the new grad I think it could work.
  7. Hi Megan1977, I've accepted an offer from Davita and I'll be starting later this month. I'm also in California. Do you mind if I PM you?
  8. Do a search for Mt Sac Nursing Department, click on the tab that says "admission procedure," and go to "multi - criteria screening." It will break it down for you.
  9. Yes, I'm going with Mt. Sac.
  10. I think I'm going with Mt. Sac. RCC is closer, but I have kids and having Thurs. and Fri. off is a better schedule for me. Good luck you guys! I wish all of us success! :)
  11. Thanks, I did select these two schools because they are CSUF jumpstart colleges. RCC is a bit closer to me than Mt. Sac is, and both are solid programs. I was favoring the Mt. Sac schedule, which is Mon - Wed in the 2nd and 3rd semesters, with the addition of a 3hr class on Thurs. only in the 1st and last semester. Then again, RCC starts a bit sooner, which means that their spring semester ends sooner, and I may have time to have grades entered to start the CSUF jumpstart classes this summer. Thank you for the link, I'm going to check it out.
  12. Yes, the pass rate is a huge factor the deserves great consideration. Thanks.
  13. RCC is closer, but the schedule is pretty much Mon-Fri and Mt.Sac is Mon-Wed with a 3hr class on Thurs, but only in the 1st and last semesters, so fewer commuting days. Thanks
  14. I wish you the best of luck. I'll be pulling the trigger soon, I'm just trying to make to best choice for me. Thanks
