  1. Hello future fellow nurse! Just a bit of my background, I am an internationally educated "new grad" nurse. I am not one who has been lucky with getting interviews, but once I DO get an interview opportunity, I can guarantee myself a job offer. Realize the fact that you got called for an interview because YOU HAVE WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR! They just want to dig deeper and see if you are a great fit for the job. By realizing that YOU STOOD OUT from other applicants should give you the confidence needed during an interview. Confidence, but not cockiness. RESOURCES: Johns Hopkins interview guide- just google it. YouTube- Lots of interview videos and examples of great answers. http://alis.alberta.ca/worksearch/interviews-offers.html http://www.quintcareers.com/sample_behavioral.html Additional tip: Make your answers personal, write down answers to possible questions as how you would say it. Writing down your thoughts is a good chance to collect yourself and be more prepared to answer. Do this BEFORE and not during the interview, of course. But bring a notepad or piece of paper and pen with you at the interview as they might give you a scenario with patient details that are easier to analyze if written down. Picture it not as an "interview", but as a conversation. Ask them questions back if time permits. Be humorous, confident and keep smiling- not a crazy almost laughing smile , but an appropriate, friendly, "happy to be here with you" kind. :) Thank them immensely for their time spent interviewing you. Ask what your next steps would be. Remember: If you do not succeed in an interview, it does not always mean you did or said something wrong. It depends on your competition. An applicant may have a better background or experience than you or they may be interviewing 50+ applicants. That's my 10 cents! All the best! Hope this has been helpful. Keep us posted on what happens.
  2. Hello Everyone! I wrote my exam in Calgary, Alberta. On March 17, 2014- Monday morning, received a 9x12 inch brown envelope in the mailbox. This is a relatively large envelope contrary to other passers who received a regular white letter size envelope. It was light though and stamped from Canada Post. I assumed I failed and started crying and had palpitations. I opened the envelope and took deep breaths as I peeked inside and voila! It was a small slip stapled to a letter that was the official exam result report that said: Result: PASS!!! I started crying again, but this time, with joy and relief! The envelope came with the small report slip which displays the result, a letter from the Provincial board of nursing, a F.A.Q. sheet, and the best of all, a certificate from the CNA with my name on it that I can't wait to frame! All my friends who I went to school with in the Bridge to Canadian nursing had their results same day as me, both Edmonton and Calgary takers. All passed!!! I have yet to hear from 3 other friends but so happy to share the glory with most. In total, it took 5 weeks and 5 days to get our results. Congratulations to everyone who made it! It was a difficult exam, no doubt! I bet I passed by a hairline! To those who have yet to make it, don't give up on your dreams! Keep pushing yourself and no hard work would go unrewarded. People I know who took the time to practice NCLEX questions said it was very helpful, namely Saunders in addition to the Canadian prep guides. Cheers everyone!
  3. I noticed that too but apparently, whatever date you decided to open the myCCP file, it marks as the start date. I don't know for sure if it is a trick to know if you passed or not. In AB too! Still waiting... None of my classmates got their results yet. But keep your faith, we will make it!
  4. No, not yet. I did successfully pass the phone interview but turned the job offer down because at that time, the offer came too early in my job hunt that I decided to try locally in the city first. Big mistake! I'll give it another month and if I still don't get even a casual job, I'll call Grand Cache at once, don't know if they'll still have a position open for me. It is easier to relocate to Grand Cache from Edmonton (4 hour drive) than Calgary (8 hour drive).
  5. Hello! I would gladly whine with you! We're on the same boat! I am an IEN with a requirement of 225 non-orientation hours as a Grad nurse to apply for my RN, passing the CRNE is the least of my problems. I have been applying online for a month and felt like nothing was happening. Recently going facility to facility dropping resumes. Some give me the cold shoulder and tell me to apply online only while others honestly say they have a long list of already registered Nurses applying for the positions so I am out of luck. Since you are an LPN, I feel you would have a better chance applying at long-term care since majority of their workforce are LPNs. I would suggest semi-private companies such as Chartwell and Revera among others. I have been employed at both of them and they were assisted living and worked as a HCA. LPNs come and go and so there might be a chance for you. All the best to us both! Remember to network, network, network. I am considering relocating since I don't have a family yet just to be in the AHS system and gain a couple years experience before I come back. Grand Cache, here I come!
  6. Hello fellow future RNs! I don't know if there is a trick to know if you passed. I checked my account in my provincial board of nursing site and looked into myCPP records which displays when you open up your continuing competence file and there it displayed: " RN Record (04/03/14-30/09/14)" Has anyone else seen this? My friend called me up to check this out because he claimed he's never seen this before up until that Tuesday (March 04, 2014). Please reply to my comment if you have noticed this too. Thanks! All the best to everyone! Let's be optimistic! P.S.- For those who didn't know, a person from Nova Scotia received her results today! She passed! Yey!
