For those of you studying for the NCLEX, good luck! I wanted to share the news that I recently passed in 75 questions. I was relieved and elated to say the least. The exam was as challenging, if not more so, than I was expecting. Despite getting only 75 questions, my mind still feared the worst. That's how difficult it was. I got somewhere between 25-35 SATA questions out of 75. My best advice is to really review SATA questions through Kaplan or Saunders. That should prepare you well. SATA really is the big trend. I had no med calculation or diagram questions. I also recently accepted a position on a Neurology unit at a reputable hospital in Providence. Somehow with a bit of luck and foresight in seeing a potential opportunity, I landed the job before actually passing the NCLEX. It all happened so fast. I start next month. Shockingly, I got a day schedule. The one kicker is that it's only part-time (24 hours/week), a trend I am starting to see at many hospitals. Does anyone have insight into this trend in the Boston/Providence area? Is this another hurdle to climb for new graduates? It seems many full time jobs are being replaced by part time or per diem jobs, an attempt by hospitals to save on benefits. I thought it was best to accept this position knowing that it was part time because it would be phenomenal experience. I figured I could get extra hours here and there, and perhaps it would all level out. In any event, I can pick up a second job in 6 months after gaining some much needed practical experience. Any readers out there work at RI Hospital? I'm curious how difficult it is to pick up OT shifts, with the ever-growing number of float positions that are being created! Has anyone heard anything yet? My profile on the website indicates that a decision has been made and that letters are being sent out. I'm nervous!! I had heard that UMass would be conducting interviews this year as part of the application process. Since they pushed the application deadline earlier this year, they are doing several rounds of "cuts." I think those that make it past the first "cut" will have an on-campus interview. Maybe the admissions board changed their minds. I'm okay with that, as long as I get in! :)
