Precepting on Oncology Floor
Hi Guys, I begin my final semester precepting on the Oncology floor in our local hospital next week. During clinicals we only had one or two patients. My preceptor said we would normally have 4-6 during precepting. Do you have any suggestion for keeping track of multiple patients, "brain sheets" etc... Thanks much, Scross013

My cousin is the head of a Nursing program in MS. She said there is NO way a person can read every word in all the assigned chapters plus do everything else plus focus on your own existence. She said she has found it's best to read chapters ahead of time if you can. At least skim them BUT focus a lot of your time on the key words for each chapter and the key points and objectives your teachers provide. I bought the bundle and in the Ebooks it actually reads aloud to you. It was wonderful. I could listen and take notes at same time. Like a private lecture. So that's what I started doing. I'm old school and have to write stuff to assimilate it better than typing. So I have begun writing every key term plus definition and I'm trying the note taking method in our student nurse planner where you divide paper in half. I write my notes from self study in left column and add to or modify from lecture in right column.. It's like writing a big T on your paper. HOWEVER. I won't know till first test if this method is working. I put in 7-8 hours each of the past 4 non class days and have done another 3 or so roughly after class. Just getting into the swing and staying organized takes a lot.

When I went to the bookstore this week the sign out front just said ID and schedule. It didn't say student ID. U can call first and ask. They are also opening early that day at 7:30 am.

The email I got is identical to the announcement. It's from V. Brown and It doesn't mention anything about the Perry & potter book.

They definitely have an error on the Decatur website under that class listing.

OMG they sure did and even when you click on the class at the bookstore it lists the Fundamentals book as the only one necessary. That expensive bundle doesn't even have it in there. I just had to buy it on Amazon for 80 to get it here by Sunday. Good grief.

I just wish ESS would email and let me know if my items are accepted. I kept getting emails that I was missing stuff, when I wasn't so I called them and they said oh yes it's here. ARGHHH. Our insurance only covers flu shots from our doctor and they don't have them yet. I had to sign waiver for Hep B since 3rd shot won't be given for 6 months and I'm also missing my second varicella. I have to take the 2nd shot Sept. 3rd. I had chicken pox and so did both of my kids but my titers came back negative. I am totally shocked. I am wearing my uniform. It was freezing in there at orientation so I will have to wear my lab coat. I only bought 2 so I will pretty much be ironing them nonstop.

U have to address each section. They told me to sign the waiver and just write on it that I would be taking when they become available. You also have to provide ESS with your final Hep B or whatever series you at not have completed. I'm not taking the Nurse Pack or the Med Surge books. I am going to keep a tote in my trunk and put my Pharm book in there until that class. I got a rolling backpack and a large "31" tote and it's still jammed full.

- Senate Bill 160 is keeping me from finding a job
What is Senate Bill 160. All I can find is that it requires notification to victims of crimes.- Nursing and the Ebola Virus
I am veryyyyy concerned over this. I'm sure I will get flamed for my opinion but I think if you make an educated / informed decision to go and participate in the care of these patients in the foreign country you also take on the risk of what medical facilities are available for your care should you become infected. Our country is being inundated with problems brought to us via other countries. One facility right now housing illegal aliens is quarantined for a deadlier strain of varicella. TB is also being brought through these same sources. This latest Ebola situation will introduce a horribly deadly viral possibility that is extremely communicable to our country. Will the CDC allow any person who might possibly become infected in the future here in the US be one of their patients? I hardly think so. I'm sure the CDC wants to gain knowledge from this in hopes of finding a cure. Well heck, you haven't found a cure for a multitude of diseases now plaguing Americans. If you wish to study Ebola, take scientists to those countries, don't risk Americans unnecessarily!- Calhoun CC Fall 2014
I heard from some other students that you cannot wear any fingernail polish and nails cannot be seen over tops of your fingers. Wonder if I can wear my wedding band?- Calhoun CC Fall 2014
Alblove which Littman did you get? From all I have read the Med Surge is next semester. They also didn't tell us about jewelry, hairspray etc... Someone said you have to have unscented everything, hairspray, deodorant etc...- Calhoun CC Fall 2014
The amazon books are print only. I was adamant about purchasing all of mine on Amazon but now I'm thinking I might like to have the ebooks as well. By all means buy the Pharm book on Amazon. I paid 64 for it, brand new with access code and bookstore is asking 226 for it. The 3 book Davis/Taber bundle is the same price I found on Amazon.- Calhoun CC Fall 2014
Yea my friend says, How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. LoL. ?- Calhoun CC Fall 2014
I'm following a good Pinterest Board called IStudent Nurse. It has tons of info and I got my Pharm book yesterday it weighs about 6 lbs. How on earth can any human put all that and all the other books info into their head?- Calhoun CC Fall 2014
I got it on Amazon for 41- Should I be depressed?
I agree with mrsboots. Come on now !!! 26 is very young and you have your whole life ahead of you. My husband got his PhD at age 44. I am 58 and start ADN school in 3 weeks. I never thought I would be back in school at age 58 but I am thrilled about it. You do need to seek some sort of counseling with your depression. But, If you are not clinically depressed and you are just attending the "pity party" a little too long it's time to stop. BELIEVE ME. You are on the right path and can accomplish anything you truly desire to accomplish. I have learned through the years to keep your eye on the prize but get to it one small goal at a time and before you know it you will have that gold ring tight in your clutches.- Calhoun CC Fall 2014
I just bought the Tabers wonder if I should send it back. Waiting on the Pharm book. Calhoun wanted $226 for it and I found it new for $64. Wonder why they are so "harsh" for the lack of a better term at orientation?- Calhoun CC Fall 2014
Was it written by a Calhoun student?- Calhoun CC Fall 2014
I did a lot of research: Calhoun individual pricing = 1084 Calhoun Bundle Pricing. = 920 (+/-) Amazon = 659 (you have to make sure the books are new if you need an access code for the ones that require codes, if you click on the right side of page where it says More Buying Choices, it brings up more sites that you can sort by New or Used)
