Hey everyone. I am graduating in August and take my NCLEX in September. I was already offered a job (pending passing the NCLEX) at Palmetto Healthcare Richland ER on October 25th. I live in Virginia which I know is a compact state. So if I go ahead and fulfill all requirements for licensure here...I am able to work in SC too? However, what else do I need to do? I know I have to send paper work and a transcript to the SC Board of Nursing anyway and do their background check. However, my big question is, I am moving down to Columbia to work. Once I move down there, even though I will (hopefully) have VA license, do I need to apply for endorsement? Im sorry for the million questions. The websites for SC, VA and NLC is just jumbling info up on me and making me overwhelmed! If anyone knows what to do and has done it, help will be greatly appreciated :)

I applied and I was just told Im under consideration and to wait for an email about interviews. Im interested in (and praying for) the ED. Chapel Hill is a very nice area to live so you really cannot go wrong when picking apartments.

I just got invited to interview for Neuroscience ICU. Im hoping to hear from Emergency Department though since that is where Im doing role transition and my dream job. If not, I will probably apply elsewhere to see if I get ED. Still exciting though!

Actually they are getting rid of the traditional and only making it accelerated because they have a higher graduation rate...you must have all pre requisite classes done before nursing school which was a requirement for accelerated. (I'm accelerated fyi. No one has failed in my group. It's only been traditional who have failed out).

They are actually debating ending the odu partiality due to a high incidence of students failing out who were chosen just because they went to odu. My instructor said 12 people failed out just in 2 semesters. I was told they are going to just stick with who has high gpas. So if you did well at TCC or another community you should be golden.

Hey girls. I'm so sorry about the program. Don't lose hope. They really do take into consideration if you reapply! Just as a heads up to how competitive it was...they were only taking about 50 people and about 500 people applied. A competitive HESI score is over 90. Make sure your science classes are As. Having experience in medical setting is a big plus. Go talk to Ms.Hawkins to get suggestions.

Don't let it fool you! I got a medium size packet, but my friend got a normal envelope. She had a panic attack but it was an acceptance!

Hold onto hope girls. Normally everyone got the letters the same day. Im not trying to discredit the friend, but that's how it was when I applied and got accepted last year. Everyone got it the same day acceptance and rejection.

Im currently in the ODU Nursing program and I know you need a HESI score of at least a 85% to be considered and As in both Anatomy courses to be competitive. You can email the advisor Ms.Hawkins. She will happily talk about the program.

Sorry for the very belated reply...I actually think you have to have an 85 or above to be eligible to apply to ODU Nursing. I would ask Ms.Hawkins and probably take it again!

Honestly, if Mrs.Hawkins gave you the okay to apply, then I think you're probably okay. She's incredibly honest. My HESI score was 96. Most people I know in the program, had HESI scores over 90. I did not find it difficult, but I still studied. Do not brush it off. Review the sections in the HESI admission exam book you can get off amazon. My GPA for prerequisite was a 4.0 and all of my friends had 4.0 in the prerequisite classes. Your job will most certainly help you!

Im currently in it. It's a great program and still will be. It has gotten so much recognition and is incredibly competitive to get in. Although ODU itself isn't the top notch, it's medical programs are (strangely enough) due to close proximity to a medical school, great hospitals etc... NCLEX rate has been about 100%. The professors are great. Every nurse practitioner I talked to recommended ODU Nursing and the students are looked upon with high regard and have an easy time getting hired.

I think I did visiting student non-degree. I would call admissions tomorrow and ask them for sure. You will send the transcript of your ODU class along with your other transcripts when you turn in the nursing application. That way they see you are currently enrolled at ODU!

So far, you look good! :) I took my HESI this past Janurary. I think they require the minimum grade to be 85% . Yet, to be competitive, try to get it over 90%. I took it a month before my application was due. I wouldn't recommend taking it so close before the application is due in case you want to retake it. Try looking to see if you can do an easy online ODU class. Mrs.Hawkins told me they really like seeing classes from ODU in an applicant's transcripts. It makes you more competitive. She urged me to do it, which I did. If it wasn't important, I don't think she would have been so adamant.

The application process was not bad. There is no essay, so they focus on your GPA, HESI A2 score, whether you took ODU classes in the past, and past experience. When I went to talk to the advisor, she informed me it was an incredibly competitive program to get into. They receive hundreds of applications. I'm incredibly thankful I was accepted. My tips: -Make sure your Prerequisite GPA is competitive. A lot of applicants have GPAs of 3.7 and up. -Make sure you received an A in all your Anatomy & Microbiology classes. -Make sure your HESI A2 score is really high. I studied my butt off for it and it paid off. I used the HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review, 3e by Elsevier and past notes. -Try to take an ODU class as a nondegree student. -Try to get some medical experience like volunteering at a free clinic or hospital. I hope I didn't scare you with my comment! If you talk to anyone at ODU Nursing, they will say it's very competitive and to have a backup plan. If you want to talk to someone, Mrs.Hawkins is the chief nursing advisor. She's a no nonsense lady, but she is great. If she has time, she might be able to look at what you have so far and give you some tips. She's pretty busy though, but it doesn't hurt to contact her. Hello! Know your acid and bases chapter from chem class!!! Also make sure you know at least the first 20 elements with their atomic number and mass. Of course make sure you know the parts of an atom. It had some pretty general chem questions. Just review it all! They really just choose random sections. The Eleveseir (spelling?) HESI admission examination book really helped me by giving an outline of what to expect.

Congrats! I was warned about about Marymount. Some people transfer out because they do not like the set up. Find someone who went there and ask about their experience. As for GMU I heard some jobs do not care for the fact it's only 1 year program. GWU is probably your best choice! Don't let that girls grades deter you! Most students in nursing programs have As more Bs and a few Cs. Very normal. Good luck!

I too have a bachelors and applied for an ABSN program with the hope to get my DNP. I start this fall. I was advised ABSN is the best choice for second degree candidates especially ones who want to go into a DNP program or other graduate nursing specialty. Look into ABSN first. It's just two years for most colleges.

Im sorry I withdrew my application because I got into my first choice nursing school. Supposedly it was incredibly competitive this year for GMU! I hope you get off the wait list! Did they give you a number?

Yeah the one thing about ODU is they said you must tell them by April 15th or you lose your spot. I do not think I'll hear from the other schools before the 15th so I was surprised the date to make a decision was so soon. I live in Hampton Roads also which is why ODU was a first choice. It also has a very reputable program and I only hear great things from doctors, nurses, FNP etc about it!!
