  1. Hello, Just stumbled upon this thread the other day at work so I ought to share what I have done so far and the info I have as well. I have a little over 2 years of RN experience as MedSurg. I started my packet for active duty credentialed in MedSurg around May 2017, did MEPS in June, interviewed in August, and then my recruiter told me that I have been board selected November 2018. As far as I know, the billets for this fiscal year has been filled quick. My recruiter also said that the board might meet again in May and will decide if there will be more billets to open. If not, the longest I have to wait is October of this year when the new fiscal year opens. I wish the best of luck for those in the process of getting credentialed, MEPS, and interviewed. I hope you guys/ladies can all get in. Much regards.
  2. Cal States are extremely competitive. Most students have A's on their Anatomy, Physio, and Micro to get in. TEAS is also very important. Students to be considered competitive must average around 87~91%. Not to discourage you though, just being realistic. If you get a C on your anatomy, your chances of getting into a CalState is pretty slim. If ever you get in, you most likely will end up as an alternate. If you still have the chance to drop your Anatomy with a W, that's actually better than a C or F.
  3. I personally would like to be in a trimester. I don't have a particular reason other than it finishes faster.
  4. Mine's on June 12 @ 8am. I dont know if it's the same for every student but please post anything if you are on the same date and time.
  5. Update as of April 3,2015: Monalisa just sent out e-mails regarding orientation dates and more information about the contingencies of the contract mentioned on the first e-mail regarding admission to the program.
  6. Finally! I found this thread. Been looking around for months now. Took the TEAS last Jan 23 and submitted my application after. Here's my stats: Science GPA 4.0 = 4 pts GE GPA 4.0 = 2 pts TEAS Math 100%= 2 pts TEAS Adjusted(88%) = 1.76 pts I have 9.76 atm. Goodluck to other applicants .
  7. "I'll be off for lunch. Want some cappuccino?"
  8. I actually did the same thing! I took micro, physio and stats last Spring 2014. I got an A for all 3 BUT I have to warn you though, STATS will throw you off. It's a lot of work, even more than labs for micro and physio. I had to work part-time for that semester so thats also why it kinda threw me off. nevertheless, it is doable, allot so much time to read and read and read. get on to your reading starting day one. I kinda took it as a challenge to take those 3 classes. I told myself, if I cant do it, might as well not be a nurse coz damn some people do more than that. It is extremely competitive especially getting into CSU, so always challenge yourself and be happy when you achieve it :)
  9. It actually just crossed my mind today. It's the weekend so no office for CSU long beach at this time, that's why I posted here so that I can have answers before Monday. Thanks for the speedy reply though, I appreciate it :)
  10. I have been researching online, even at the official site for CSU Long Beach's Nursing but I can't seem to see any information regarding their age requirement for the program. For the community college I am attending, minimum age requirement at the start of clinicals is 18, the legal age in CA. I just turned 20 this Aug 2014. CSU's might have an age requirement of 21, but I hope you can shed light on this one. I'm just worried that once I am already at the process of doing my application to CSU long beach, they'll be saying "oh there is an min. age requirement for clinicals and malpractice insurance", so any insight will be appreciated. I believe that posting this here will be the speediest help I can get. Thanks
  11. I'm applying for Spring 2015 as well. I just dropped off the documents I need to submit and hopefully I can get in. I have 28 points (I'm pretty sure of it). I'm currently enrolled in ENGL 102 (reading class) so they won't take the point for that at the moment. I applied at Cypress because I want to have a plan B whenever I things may not work to my advantage once I apply at CSULB. Im planning to transfer to Long Beach by Fall 2015.
  12. I hate to say this but none of the guys or gals here are too old for nursing. I've met students who are 45 and still wants to get into nursing school! Dont be discouraged! I just turned 20 yrs old last Aug and on my last year at CC. I'll be applying to CSULB for fall 2015. While you guys are worried about being "too old" for nursing, I'm worried that I'll be underestimated for lacking experience. Initially, I was aiming for ADN at my CC, but my counsellor told me that I should just transfer out because ADN and BSN takes roughly the same years to finish. My concern is that the differences in the expenses will be great. Right now, Im waiting for Oct 1 and I'll see what happens
  13. Yeah the job market here in California is so competitive. Im willing to practice at other states and explore my options more. Maybe go to the east coast or move up north, I really dont mind. Nurses are still in demand outside of CA, might as well try.
  14. Sadly, I have no idea what Biomed Engr has to offer but I really think it is interesting. Kinda wish it's so easy to change majors. I'll stick with nursing for now
  15. Wow, just looking through these posts, I can say you guys are really having a hard time doing school and everything else. Kids and work can throw you off for prereqs. I dont have kids myself, and Im 19. Srsly, I admire the fact that you guys still get it on even though it's hard. Go for the gold everyone.
  16. This is kinda out of topic, but what exactly is a non-traditional student?
  17. What's TN, if you dont mind me asking?
  18. This is the same point I'm trying to make when I tell people I want to pursue nursing. I expect a "wow thats great you're helping" response but all I get is "you will be rich!". I initially wanted to be a doctor, but I needed to go to another path to help my family and maybe pursue medicine in the future. Everyone has their reasons for going into nursing. I am a male pre-nursing student, which coincidentally fits the stereotype for my ethnicity. I get frustrated when I think about it.
  19. Depends on where you are. One language that you are guaranteed to learn and use is spanish. Here in my area, it's mostly spanish, korean, and vietnamese. How I wish I can learn one of them, but spanish, imo, is widely used anywhere.
  20. Thanks for the speedy response! With what you said, I think I might try out that one. I've always wanted to have a first hand experience with patients, although I'm a bit worried about their grumpiness since as you said, they are more or less in pain. But I will still give it a shot.
  21. I have been volunteering in a hospital for almost 2 years now. I volunteer as a messenger every fridays from 8am to around noon. I have completed over 200 hours. My duties include discharging patients, transferring meds, tools, blood, guiding visitors, and most of the time run errands for nurses. I do enjoy volunteering as a messenger, but I am concerned with my hands-on experience with patients. I have an option to go to a specific nursing department and help nurses with whatever we as volunteers can legally do. Im considering switching to oncology unit, since it is of my interest and curiousity because volunteers, at strict enforcement, are not allowed to go and deliver flowers and cannot wear perfume because of the oncology unit. I just want to know what nurses do in that unit and can anyone give me an idea of what an oncology nurse does. Thanks
  22. Ok, I'll try to talk to my counsellor and see which courses I have will credit towards biomed engineering. So far, I have only done my GE's and currently taking one pre-requisite for both nursing and bio med, which is physio. Thanks for the replies!
  23. Yes, I am in CA and currently a sophomore in a CC. I started college when I was 17 and after this semester, I'll have 54 units completed and finished my A&P and Microbiology. I dont aim for the lottery, I go for the ranked list so I can surely get in. With financial aid, I am trying to stretch it out so it can cover my BSN when I transfer. But I am having this mid-college dilemma of changing major.
  24. I have checked and talked with the counselling centers as of now, they dont have AD-Transfer degree for biomedical eng. Probably because it is a new discipline in itself and too broad for now. Thanks for your reply.
  25. Please don't get me wrong, I love nursing. I just considered the factors if I switch now. I'm one chem class away from transferring, and what's left of my financial aid is pretty much exact to cover my expenses for BSN. I just had a thought of maybe going back to school someday when I have financially established myself and my family. I'm 19, and expecting to graduate by 22 or 23. Saving up will take time, and I have also considered joining the army as a nurse so that I can receive assistance when I get back to college
