Why can't you go straight to CRNA School from BSN?
True, I agree with you about the number of jobs, I wonder about the same thing. But in reference to the topic, there is no way to go from a BSN to CRNA but a way to go from a BS to being an Anesthesia provider if the AA route is of interest. My personal opinion is that a CRNA is medically prepared to deal with patients and anesthesia while it "seems" as though the AA is just as qualified to deal with anesthesia. No debates on AA vs CRNA just about choices and routes to take. If you're older like me and have small children and a spouse, then one might not want to spend 4 years in intense study (BSN + CRNA) to make this career change. That's all I'm saying.

WOW! It always amazes me how rude and bold people can be with their comments in cyberspace. The anonymity of the internet makes saying what ever you want to whoever is on the forum just fine. You making assumptions about my drive is simply rediculus. I could make a lot of assumptions about you but I won't. I was just responding to the post. Which you could do to keep a civilized discussion going in this forum. Also understanding your terminology is not hard even if you're not a health professional. It just takes a little reading. And if you need to know about my intellect, I'm already accepted to an accelerated nursing program that will take me directly into the CRNA program after my one year experience in the ICU. In addition I also have great scores on the MCAT which can get me into Med school or AA school. I look at gaswork.com from time to time but there are more jobs for CRNA's because there are more CRNA's. So, since this post is not about me but the person may have the same concerns as I, like, time spent in school, dealing with shiznit, and have no problem with being directed by an Anesthesiologist - they may want to skip the nurse part and go AA. It's just another route to consider. Remember, if your heart isn't in it, why do it?

Thanks NiteCap.... This is the exact reason why I'm contemplating being an AA verses a CRNA. Not really a shiznit person

Any black male nurses out there?
Well, as far as Architecture, most people think Architects make a lot of money. Most don't. I got tired of the 60 - 70 hour weeks for the same pay. Also, when I started, computers were just starting to make their way into the field. So I started working more and more with Computers. I eventually saw that computer professionals were making more than me and working 40 hour weeks. So I got a BS in Computer Science. Now the field is so unstable, it changes to much, and businesses want you to work whenever the computer is working and espescially when it's not. If you look at the job descriptions now, the requirements are staggering. As you know, they want you to know every OS ( Unix to Windoze ), Security, programming, networking, have an MCSE, CCNA, Disaster recovery, and the list goes well on. Now after 10 years in this field and having all these qualifications, I still only get two weeks of vacation a year...WHAT!!!!! So, I'm kind of switching to a stable career (CRNA) that starts with 4-6 weeks of vacation, has flexible working hours and is more rewarding. Although it seems like I'm switching, if you look at it closely you will see an underlying theme of technology running through. I like technology just not the business of it. So, I will be using my computer skills in the ICU and in Anesthesia. I see it as another system to make stable, just going from computer systems to human systems.

Any black male nurses out there?
I think that any science field has very few black men. I have had two careers, Architecture, very few black men, and my current one, Computer professional. I see very few in this profession also, unless you count the Asian Indians (joke). I have met two black male nurse in my area and 2 black CRNA's. This coming May I will be making the switch from Computers to Nursing, then on to CRNA.

Anyone going for there masters
I will be starting an Accelerated Master's program in May. It's not a MSN though. After a year of ICU experience I plan on attending a CRNA program at UC or MTSA. That one will be a MSN.

It To Nursing..??
Another IT guy here. I did the 3rd shift thing for a while. It really threw my body out of wack. That was in 98 and I still haven't recovered from the weight gain. I think as far as nursing, they make the new nurses take the night shift jobs. I'm not totally sure since I'm not a nurse yet. I will be starting a Master's Accelerated program this May though. I have to get out of this unstable career. I think my resume is about 6 pages long now, just from all the contract positions and all the crap they want you to know.

PLEASE HELP-RN to BSN to CRNA?
I would agree with the others that an accelerated program is a faster route. I have a BS in Computer Science ans started the AS Community College route but found out that all the colleges have a two year waiting list, and that's after you've taken the prereqs and been accepted into the nursing program. I found that the Accelerated BSN programs have no waiting lists and are about 14 or 15 months long. They usually require a 3.0 gpa though. I actually am starting a Master's Nursing accelerated program in May 06. Hopefully this will cut out some of my courses in the CRNA program.
