Hi gonnabeB37nursedoc, May I ask what your overall gpa and pre req gpa? I want to know my chances of getting admitted or wait listed

luv_u_so_much, you mentioned about schools that look at the last 60 units - I hope that's how they will evaluate my overall GPA! I already completed a total of 71 credits hours/units here in the US. Im keeping my hopes high!!! that they will not include my Bachelors degree from another country ; (

I agree with you. Using pre reqs as basis would give me better chances because mine is at 3.8 but my overall is only 3.17 ; (

DadStudentPerhaps, I have read a lot of posts from students saying they got a 4.0 GPA. But wonder how many classes have they taken so far. It would be unfair if a student will get accepted due to high GPA than one with low GPA but has taken more classes. Do you see what I mean. I know someone who only took 5 classes and got a 4.0 but someone has completed the 10 pre req classes but only has 3.5 GPA.

Heathermaizey, I tried to look for forum and this website is the only one so far I could see people talk about their application. The school has a website- its actually a university. The admission information is general- like applicant should have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 but doesn't specifically say how they calculate the overall GPA

Heathermaizey, I already asked the school but their answers were too general. I tried posing this question to find out if there are applicants/students who had the same problem/experience that they could share.

DadStudentPerhaps, I am hoping that the school will do the same thing- just look at my pre req GPA instead of my cumulative or overall GPA. It's just sad how my past grades are haunting me ; ( Actually, the school where I am applying right now has 3 requirements: overall GPA, pre req GPA and act reading or accuplacer..I am ok with 2 except for the overall GPA.

StephenAndrews, I know GPA is a huge factor. My pre req GPA is around 3.7, however my overall GPA will be pulled if they will include my grades from the other country where I am from. If it is just based on US grades it is around 3.17. I am hoping they will consider that.

Lacie1221, Hello. It seems that we may have the same issue. Right now I am applying at NIU. Admissions was asking for my transcript from 20 yrs ago from another country. I am wondering what happened to your application and they ever gave you a special consideration. I hope you reply on this I need to hear from you

hi AshleyW92, Right now, without including my GPA from another country, would be 3.17 but if they will include my previous degree from my country it would around 2.54.

I am applying at NIU for fall 2014 nursing program. I am anxious to know how my overall GPA will be computed considering I have a bachelors degree from another country but my GPA is low. I took some classes here in Chicago and my pre req GPA is around 3.76 but I am worried about my overall GPA. Can someone please help me if I am going to be given special consideration due to the fact I graduated 20 yrs ago and from another country. Again, my pre req is high but if they will include my GPA from another country it will definitely affect my GPA here which is only around 3. 17. Please help

Hello CA_BSNHopeful! Just curious if you get admitted at NIU? You said you have a gpa of 3.1- is this the pre req GPA or overall GPA. And those admitted with 3.4/3.5ish is this overall or pre req GPA?
