  1. Note-San Antonio is having a surge in COVID cases right now, of course ? I am torn because I want to support my team and help my community, but I would absolutely fall apart if anything happened to my son. Putting him at risk just doesn't seem to be worth it.
  2. Hey y'all, I am having a major dilemma. I'm currently on maternity leave enjoying our beautiful 6 week old baby boy. My husband and I have struggled with infertility for 8 years and our miracle baby is finally here! I have worked in an ER in San Antonio for the last year and a half. I love my team and before this pandemic I was excited to return to work for 2 days per week. I've been trying to decide if I should a) return to work after my paid leave mid-July, b) take all of my leave (including unpaid bonding time) and go back on August 11th or c) consider working in a lower risk environment-I've done ambulatory surgery before, so that would probably be my backup. I spoke with some of my work friends and was informed that, like several other hospitals, covid has all but taken over ours. Management has fitted the staff with respirators and I find that reassuring, but the fact still remains that it is a high risk workplace. Ideally I would be a stay at home mom and keep our family in a bubble until this all dies down-fingers crossed! We could possibly make that work but money would be super tight. What would any of my fellow nurses/mamas do in my situation? I am breastfeeding and I worry about pumping at work-not sure if it would be safe to bring home my pump/milk after 12 hours in the ER break room. Any insight or advice would be SO appreciated!!
  3. Yay congratulations Dani A!! Thanks for reporting back! So glad to hear it went well for you, good luck in school! I'm sure you'll get in with that score! PS how did you feel about the science section? I'm stressing pretty hard over this chemistry stuff...
  4. Thanks for the feedback guys!! Dani A good luck on the 15th!! :) How long have you been studying? Would you mind checking back in after you take the test to let me know if the study guide was helpful? I am also concerned that the math may be harder since we're allowed to use calculators kynurseangel how long did you study prior to taking the test and did you finish all of the sections in time? I've been taking practice tests but it's hard to gauge how they will compare to the real thing..thanks again!!
  5. Hey y'all! Not sure if this is the right forum, but I am wondering if anyone has taken the recently updated PAX-RN Exam? From what I've gathered, they shortened the test to 40 minutes per section and we're allowed to use calculators but I can't seem to find out how many questions are in each section? Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated, as I'm scheduled to take it 4/20/16 and I'm studying with the most current NLN study guide available, but it's geared toward the older, longer version where it had more questions and it was like an hour per section. Trying not to freak out here! lol Oh and I am applying for the Galen College of Nursing LVN-ADN Bridge Program to hopefully start in September 2016. Thanks so much!!
  6. Wow, thanks for the input guys! I think I will continue my education while looking for a more rewarding LPN job in the meantime. Thanks so much!!
  7. Hey y'all, So I recently got my first LPN job (after applying for tons jobs for months, this was the only callback I got) at a methadone clinic...I'm only 4 days into it and I already feel like this isn't the place for me. I worked very hard to become a nurse so that I could better people's lives and so I could get to use my nursing skills. This job is accomplishing neither of these goals. All I do is sit behind the glass and pass methadone. Oh, and I answer the phone and send faxes . Anyway, I've always said that after LPN school I would be done with school forever, because, although I love nursing, I had a horrible experience with my school and I was completely burned out after I graduated. The thought of any more school made me want to just run as fast as I could in the opposite direction . But it's been a few months and I've kind of gotten over it. And now, to my utter astonishment, I find myself poking around looking for LPN to RN Bridge programs!! What is wrong with me?!! I guess the point of this post is that I wanted to ask if anyone out there has ever been in my shoes, and if so, what did you do?? I think it would be great to go to RN school, but at the same time...I kind of hate school with the fire of a thousand suns, and I'm sure I could make it through if I put my heart and soul into it, but RN school seems SO incredibly daunting and what if I'm just jumping the gun because my first job isn't perfect?? But at the same time, shouldn't I go for the degree that will get me the job that I really want (hospital/OR/ER nurse)?? Any and all advice/experience would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks guys!!
