RN Supervisor interview
Hello! was wondering if anyone had the same exp, I was contacted for interview which I showed up. Was told I would get an offer letter and to give my references heads up, they called my ref 3 days later and called me back but I was at work so unable to answer phone so they left VM to call back. I followed up TWICE with no answer back. Like what the heck? if someone didn't want to hire me I'd either hear nothing or receive a rejection letter. Anyone go thru this?

New Grad-Med/Surg or Specialty
Oh wow congrats! I feel like I'm being discriminated against as I've applied to several new grad programs all to be rejected. Call it ageism but I'm 46 and I feel as if they're looking for younger brand new grads in 20s or 30s just a thought. I initially wanted to start in a specialty unit but no success so I'm starting at a hospital on med-surg tele floor with only 3 days of preceptorship but at this point I realize I need to pay my dues in med surg before I apply to a specialty unit in 6mos-2 yr or so. this may not be the case for you so I'm wishing you best of luck on your future endeavors!

Torrance Memorial- RN New Grad (March 2025)
Did anyone who got a call for interview add cover letter and letters of recommendation? I can't edit mine either, says previously applied and are gonna use first application submitted. Not sure if it helps but mentioned yes to someone you know who currently works at facility.. might help as far as a reference and increase chances, good luck to all candidates

Providence RN Residency Program - Feb 2025 Cohort
Mine still says "under consideration" as well. I haven't had any luck with other New Grad programs, I have a 5 year background as an LVN. Currently working as a case manager RN remote but my goal is acute care/NICU. It's so competitive in CA.

Same here, and even with places that claim they accept new grads still seem to prefer those with experience. ??♀️

What advice to give your fellow LVN students??
Hello all, I am almost done with completing my LVN program - we are currently working on our NCLEX preparation (YAY). These past 2 years have definitely been rewarding and have met some great people, however, my nursing professor wants the top 4 students in class, including me, to help give advice to the students who aren't doing to well. I don't really know what to say or tell them?! We all have different study habits, etc, I just want to give them some sound advice that they would WANT to follow. As a nurse, its both a blessing and curse, we want to help everyone! And I would feel terrible if I couldn't help them properly. Any advice for anyone who has been in this situation?? Thank you much. Happy Monday everyone, hope you all are having a blessed day. -MS

About to start nursing school, which pre reqs should I start with?
Hi. It's good to hear you finally want to accomplish your goal :) I am starting my pre reqs this spring semester at a community college and just starting out with 3 classes as to not overwhelm myself: psych, English, and nursing dosages and calculations. I want to get most if my pre reqs out of the way before I apply. I plan to start my science courses next semester. You should try scheduling an appt with a counselor and they will tell you what you need to take. When I'm done I plan on applying to 2 local community colleges as they both have great nursing programs. I

Where to get textbooks? Which should be kept?
I usually get mine used through amazon.com. You can always sell the ones you don't want to keep later.. I've sold thru craigslist and had no problem re-selling my school books.
-
How many classes are you taking this Spring?
3 classes = 15 units. General psych, nursing dosage and calculations, and English. Wanted to take one more but have been outta school in awhile and don't want to overwhelm myself with the workload.

CNA to LVN
I have often felt the same way as I've decided to go for Nursing after being a Pharm Tech for 10 yrs. I am currently 35 and starting some of my pre-reqs at my local CC.. Married with 2 boys, 12 & 17. And still doubt myself if I'll be able to do it.. Everyone is right though, it's never too late!

Pharmacy tech during nursing school?
I recently quit my full-time job as a Pharmacy Tech (mail order pharmacy) to go to school for my nursing pre-reqs. I'm having hard time finding a part-time Pharm Tech job with a flexible schedule, but your best bet would be a retail or hospital setting. Good luck.
