  1. For the record! I did rewrite my post. I wrote the post SourLemon commented on the morning after speaking with the doctor so i was still worked up about it. Hence the rambling. I edited it to what it is now. Thank you all for your input! I greatly appreciate it and will keep it in mind!
  2. Regardless of whether or not it was my way of speaking to the doctor... the way he was demeaning to me was unacceptable. And it hasnt just been me he has done this too. The point of this post was how to deal with these certain doctors. Do you just deal with it, brush off the way they treat you? Or do something about it? Yes, ill accept advice on how to speak with doctors more efficiently seeing how i am a new nurse and dont claim to be doing things perfectly or knowing everything. So thanks for any input you have.
  3. I do take advice. Never have i said that i am doing things perfect. I know i have a lot to learn. So thanks for your input.
  4. And thanks for the advice. But it most certainly wasnt the issue. Its just the way the doctor responded, not the way i spoke to him. Regardless, thanks for the advice and ill keep that in mind even more so next time i speak with anyone.
  5. I dont write the way i speak. I am also writing from my cellphone which is why nothing was really capitalized and such.
  6. This is the patient. This is the situation. These are the vitals. What would u like to do. Nothing more was given. Just straight to what needed to be said. Thank you.
  7. I went to my assistant director/manager and let her know what had happened. She did tell me that "bullying" is unacceptable and to write her and my director an email about both times i called. As i said, he has a reputation of being rude and yelling at nurses and nothing has been done so far. I have yet to send the email. Not sure if it would like im complaining? Or look bad against me? As we will always encounter rude personalities...not every doctor is nice like the others ive had to call.
  8. I agree it had rambling but that does not reflect the way i spoke to the doctor. Thanks for pointing things out. But this doctor does have a reputation regardless of which nurse calls. He hasnt yelled at only me, but others as well.
  9. My communication with doctors on the phone is professional. I did reheorifice with my charge nurse and another fellow nurse who were both near me as i called. But thanks anyway.
  10. Not that i took it personally...but it was uncalled for. I dont understand why some doctors are like that. My priority are my patients.
  11. new grad. started working about 8 months ago. slowly getting to know doctors. two times ive had to contact a doctor. i work night shift. both times i called and it wasnt past 10 pm. first time, missing order that the dr or arnp needed to put in. Second tine, change in patient condition and seeing if he wanted any orders done. Both times, i went through my charge nurse before calling the doctor. Whether or not i was a nurse was questioned, dr threatened to call my supervisor, and stated that i may be the one who needs to be on medication, not the patient. HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH DOCTORS LIKE THIS? fyi, the doctor is known to react like this for basically anything. all the nurses on the floor know this... i understand every doctor is different, personalities.i was professional in speaking to him and never raised my voice or anything of that sort.
  12. I'm an introvert. But at work, it's different. It's quite odd, actually. I'm more extroverted, feel okay talking with patients and their families and with fellow nurses. Maybe it's just the fact that I'm at work and have a responsibility. It's like I'm a different person. Needless to say, once I get home I am drained completely because of all the socializing I do and spending time being extroverted at work. Anyone have a similar situation like that?
  13. Oh. I did tell her. I mentioned I haven't been up there in a while and to let me know if there's anything I'm missing or needing. I'm not ashamed to ask got help when needed. Patients lives at risk.
  14. I got about a month of training in admitting. Which I don't think a month of training for anything is really enough training.... But I felt confident in what I knew and what I was doing.
  15. I do feel confident in my ability to take on the job. But it was just a lot at once, after not being floated up there for a long while. I did what I needed to do. I didn't get to chart till late. But in regards to my patients, which come first, I did itt. I do admit I felt overwhelmed, and her being on me didn't help me eitherr. When she asked me those things, I simply said that yes I was trained and I knew what I was doing. Once the extra nurse came in (I wasn't even supposed to be floated...they were going to float someone with no experience upstairs...schedule mix up) I stayed behind to make sure everything was done and sent down as many babies as possible so I wouldn't leave her with a workload to do. Before I floated back down, she reminded me that next time other nurses (very friendly nurses who help when one is drowning) won't be there to help me.
  16. I'm in my 4th month of nursing. Been trained in the nursery and admitting Nursery. Went up to admitting today, haven't been there in the longest. As soon as I got up there, had 3 babies waiting for me, a normal delivery came about 30 minutes into the shift, and at the same time I got called for c section. One of the nurses was on my butt about getting things done. Saying things like "you said you had training here?" "How long was your training?" She was questioning my ability to do my job. As I said. It's been a while since I floated up there, and being bombarded at the beginning of shift wasn't fun either. She made me feel inadequate. As if I disn't know what I was doing... How do we deal with such people and not let what they say get to us? I do know what I'm doing. I did what needed to be done the best I could. It had just been a long while since I've been floates. I WAS CLEARY FEELING OVERWHELMED and she didn't help me feel any less overwhelmed. Made me feel worse.
  17. currently have a full-time job, but getting canceled more often than i would like to be. would it be wrong to be looking into a per diem job to make up the hours? how would i go about asking my manager to be a reference for my per diem job application? how do i go about editing my resume? do i still leave my clinicals experience or start all new with my current job? thank you.
  18. I sent out my app about a week ago. How can I check the application status?
  19. i wish they would give more info before calling for interviews.
  20. 6 months for me! got a call for a ppossible per diem job at a clinic. will have to wait till monday if i hear back. prefer that rather than a contract.
  21. This is what i got from the meeting: 1. 2 year contract 2. the contract doesnt begin until after your 3 months of training 3. you get paid 15/hr during your 13 weeks of training (lady wasnt too fond of answering questions so i was not able to get info about pay being raised after training was over) 4. classes for 6 weeks, monday through friday, from 9 to 5 (nursing school all over again!) 5. during those 6 weeks, no hospital floor experience, just classes. 6. after 6 months (after training) you are able to transfer to a different unit if you are not happy with where you currently are 7. (i wasnt able to ask how much we would have to pay back if contract is broken)
  22. 3 years is pretty bad... do you have any other information?
  23. do you happen to have any info on the program? because the person who called me didnt tell me anything. i would like information before even accepting an interview.
  24. Could i private message you? im also from south florida. would like to ask a few questions about the new grad program you talked about. because it seems like the one i went to last week, just to get info, and the vibe i got was not nice from simply talking to the recruiter.
