How to become a nurse in Quebec?
Yes, that's what I made out on the site as well and I was hoping I was wrong. I cannot imagine re-wrting the CRNE in French unless I took some French medical course first. It's one thing to speak French and another to know all the medical lingo. A fine challenge!

How to become a nurse in Quebec?
Hi there, I am a Canadian/BC nurse, graduated in 2005, would like to go to Montreal and be a nurse. My French is pretty good. To be a nurse there, must I re-write a nurse exam (similar to CRNE ) based out of Quebec or is it just a French exam? Anyone know? Merci beaucoup:)

Health Staff Recruitment?
Pretty basic questions like why you want to go, what area you want to work in, which location - urban or rural.

Health Staff Recruitment?
Hi Cali83, well so far, I've good relations with the company. They are different from an agency. The recruitment office does not employ you, but they look for hospitals to employ you. They do charge a fee from hospital, a price to pay if you want someone else to look for a job for you. Communication with them has been good...I don't have any complaints so far. It might be better to go directly with the hospitals, but I live so far and time seems to be a factor. I'm hoping to move to Melbourne in January. They've been helpful, but definitely need to know for sure if someone really wants to pursue a move before they help. They also presented the 2006 Australian Nursing Awards held at the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital on May 8, 2006 during International Nursing Week. The awards were initiated by the recruitment office in 2002. That's got to mean something?? I still hesitate though, naturally, we want to protect ourselves;) Thinking about moving to Australia? Yipee! I'm very excited to go there...next to Califronia, I've been dreaming about it since I was a kid.

Rates of Pay in OZ
I am still interested in that downunder experience:) Again, thanks for all the input.

Rates of Pay in OZ
It also depends how long you work for in Australia. I believe the longer you stay, the less you pay. It's quite a pay cut though to be moving from Canada to Australia...about $10/hr. Canadian! It would seem to be more about a choice of desiring the 'down under' experience, rather than the accumulation of $.

Thanks Gwenith...now I'm leaning closer towards Queensland. Perhaps you should look into recruiting if nursing falls thru? :chuckle Bethem...as an assistant nurse you get paid the same as a first year nurse in VIC...then perhaps nurses get paid more in NSW. Is the cost of living higher?- Rates of Pay in OZ
I've been researching rates of pay in Melbourne, as I plan to move there next winter if everything goes okay. Although I am open to other parts of Australia too...the whole country seems so beautiful. I have been talking to one recruiter (I know, I have big hesitations regarding recruiters), she tells me that as a grade 1, year 1 nurse, I'd make about $675per week. Then I went to this site: http://www.wagenet.gov.au/WageNet/Search/View.asp?doccode=AW784047&doctype=AW&quickview=Y which states that the minimum wage in OZ is about $15/hr. I'm not going there to make big coin, but I'm just trying to make sense of this so I know what to expect. $15/hr. on a 40 hour/week basis is about $600. Does every hosptial pay differently? In Canada, every province pays differently, but the cities themselves pay a standard wage, no matter which hospital you work in. We also don't have private hospitals. So all this is kind of foreign.- New IR laws 'NOT HAPPY JOHN'
I see. Geez, I had no idea that liberal meant right wing. haha. Well, at least nothing has been finalized yet.- New IR laws 'NOT HAPPY JOHN'
Hi there, just curious... what are IR laws? when might they be passed? thanks- Canadian RN Exam
depends on how much you already know. I think going thru your notes is a very good idea.- Canadian RN Exam
the short answer questions are more about identification. Define so and so. What are the symtoms of this and this. Give 3 signs of blah blah blah. Know your diseases, your procedures and some creative thinking and you should be fine.- Psych nursing in Australia via an agency??
Hi there, I'm finding it quite impossible to find a job in psych at the moment (I've applied for countless jobs in Winnipeg,MB). So, since I've always wanted to go to Australia...I thought -why not?? I'm a little lost though when it comes to agencies, ie: http://72.14.207.104/search?q=cache:3SS7ZVi6iBoJ:www.payaway.co.uk/dirnurse.shtml+australian+nursing+positions&hl=en I hope that link works, but if not...it lists about 20+ nursing agencies related to Australia. Can anyone sort me out? I would like to leave Canada within the month. Is the visa process difficult? Is it better to go thru an agency? thanks for your help:)- Canadian RN Exam
Congrats OVG and all the others who passed!! I also passed and I've got to say it's the best feeling in the world. I was really worried and I think worrying for almost 10 weeks created a huge weight on my shoulders...it's now gone.- Canadian RN Exam
Yes...we were told 9-13 weeks. But really - why? There were only 30 mulitple choice questions. Is it so hard to mark them? I think that the system is faulty here. There should be no reason to wait so long. I know that the people writing before the short-answers waited 4-5 weeks. I paid double for this exam - $400 - something dollars. Was I paying for service? No, I was paying for "volunteer" nurses to be flown to Ontario for an all-inclusive trip to mark the short-answers starting 2 weeks ago. And this to me is a crock of ****, pardon my language. I'm wondering...what were those exams doing for the 5 weeks prior? Sitting in a box in some warehouse?? Something is not right here, ya' know what I mean?- Canadian RN Exam
Hi, prepare yourselves for a terribly long wait to get results. As it stands, it's going on 8 weeks since I wrote the exam in June. I never was convinced that I passed it and was hoping to re-write if need be on Aug.10. This deadline is approaching quite soon and I've got to say that I'm quite disgusted at how long this is all taking. There were only 30 short-answer questions on the exam...what's the hold up?? UH :angryfire- Advice for Canadian RN Exam
Hi...this is the one I used: Mosby's Canadian Comprehensive Review of Nursing 2nd edition by Saxton, Nugent, Pelikan http://www.elsevier.ca- Advice for Canadian RN Exam
Hi all, I just wrote the CRNE last Wednesday. Yes...it was hard. The CRNE prep guide helped only with the types of questions but don't count on it be the only thing you need to study. I suggest going over your med-surg notes a few times. Also questions on maternity were to be found. Hardly any psych (my specialty) and none on current issues. And just a lot of those - 2 answers were right scenerios. AHHHH...I'm glad it's over but to have to wait 9-13 weeks for results is nothing but frustrating..- How in the world do you make it in CA?
Thanks for your replies re: the Calif. region. I will be into it in the future. Perhaps a little vacation is in order!- How in the world do you make it in CA?
I've been California dreaming for soooo long. Am young & free and considering all the exciting options of moving somewhere interesting. Roni - which part of Cal. do you live/work in? Everyone - names of any hospitals/websites in Cal. which offer mental health nursing opportunities? thanks a lot A.- Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US
Thanks for all the great information! Just wondering how the Minnesota licensing works? Does it take long to receive results there? I'm a bit closer to that state than NY.- Tell us what makes your location great for a nurse!
HI SK! What sort of things have you heard and how much truth do they hold? I hear things here and there too. I do love Canada, it is a great and beautiful country, but I'd love to get away for a while and experience other cultures. Any other places you could suggest? I'm writing my Canadian licensing exam in a couple of weeks...am a grad nurse. Love psych nursing...all kinds. Also, working in that field. Despite suggestions to go into med/surg from some, I really like this area. California seems like a great place to explore... - Rates of Pay in OZ
