I have decided at my mature age to attempt training as an LPN rather than to wait for a RN spot with a college. Does anyone know whether or not there are any private LPN schools in Maryland, preferably in Baltimore? I know of some colleges that offer the LPN program, but I wanted to research more options, if possible. Thanks

How do you find out about hospital LPN programs? Do you contact them one by one or is there a website to go to? I would love to find one in the Baltimore, Maryland area, if possible. Thanks

I'm so glad that someone posted this option - going from LPN to RN. I'm 50 and really don't have the patience to wait for nursing slots to open up if I can be dong something else educationally. I never thought about the LPN route until now. I have most of the pre-reqs done. I'm currently in Michigan but will be relocating to Maryland in the Baltimore area. Can anyone tell me how I can find out what schools teach the LPN program in a particular state, especally in Maryland? Thanks

I just applied for Spring just today- I had my interview ( they just started interviews). I won't find out until November. I *hope to god* I get in. BTW I am very glad to hear about Dr. Kaiser. I'm taking Micro with him in the Fall as my last pre-req. Did you get in? I'm planning to move to Maryland from Michigan during the beginning of Summer 2006. I hope to get into CCBC at some point. I already have a science degree and may have a problem since I will have taken no classes there.

Wow!! I looked at the pre-req list for Johns Hopkins and I have all of the pre-reqs except for Chemistry (ugh). Thanks so much for the encouragement and for the links. I really thought that my age might be a detriment for starting out in a nursing program.

Sorry Daphne....I should have stated that there are waiting lists primarily for the cc's that I am willing to commute to. I have child care concerns and really don't want to venture out too far from my area - I'm in SE MI and most of the schools that are conducive to my travel sector have waiting lists. I appreciate your response but it looks as if I'm leaning towards Md, as I hope to move there next year. Thanks

Henry Ford Community College, Macomb Community College and Wayne County Community College. Many of the other CC's were not conducive with my travel commute.

Thanks so much for the feedback. UMAB sounds great but at my age, I really wanted to go to a 2-year college. Glad you told me about CCBC - I have all of my pre-reqs from another college but I might try there anyway. How far along are you in their program?

What St. John's are you referring to? I live near a St. John's facility in Michigan and hope that I work out clinicals with them when I get to that junction. I'm still awaiting info from Deaconess.

Oh my goodness.....Maybe Deaconess isn't the choice for me. I was considering attending the school as an online student - just about have all of the pre-reqs out of the way. Is it difficult to get clinical sites? I thought that the school arranged the clinicals for the students. Please excuse my ignorance. It's good to get the feedback because I'm a little sceptical about the school - mainly about the clinical part. I live in Michigan and don't know if I'll be able to get a site or not. We're in pretty much a bad financial state at the moment.

How does one find about a nursing diploma plan in his/her state? I live in Michigan. Are you eligible to take the NXCLEX exam? Sorry if that is a silly question, but I'm vague about the diploma program. Thanks

I'm currently in MI and hating it like crazy. MI nursing programs are very sporifice here, and there are not many at all. I would like to move back to MD, and I was wondering if there were long waiting lists at many of the community colleges and other universities. I have a general degree in science, and I've taken alot of the pre-reqs that I may need, but time is of the essence. I'm looking at the big 5-0 later this year and feel that perhaps I'm too old to get into nursing. My GPA is 3.77, but I still feel that if I don't get into nursing soon, it might be too late.

Good for you !!! I was so glad to find this post. I'm not in a nursing program as of yet and will be 50 this October. I get so much flack from folks (mainly from family members) about my age and decision to go to nursing school. I definitely will keep striving and I appreciate this forum - lots of good stuff here. Where are you attending?

I'm also at WCCCD and thinking of transferring - sometimes, I consider giving up on nursing because of the waiting list situation. I would like to relocate in order to finish school, but housing would be a problem. I wish you the best in your endeavours. Hang in there !!!

I'm also in Wayne County. I haven't applied for nursing school as of yet - still completing the pre-req's. Because of the nursing program waiting list situation, I'm also contemplating whether or not to forego nursing altogether. I'm getting older and really don't want to have to wait to much longer. I often say "shoulda coulda" when I was took some pre-req's in the past many years ago, but no sense of thinking of the past. I really want to be a nurse, and never thought that there was a nursing waiting list problem.
