  1. I totally agree that the tee shirt you saw was absurd. However, the one thing that, in my humble opinion, separates nursing from other professions is that we are responsible for saving lives and keeping people alive. I work nights in a teaching hospital so I know firsthand how often we prevent harm from coming to patients' at the hands of an inexperienced intern or resident. Another important factor is that, again in my humble opinion, no other profession has to deal with the level of disrespect and expectation to accept the verbal, sometimes physical, abuse that we take.
  2. Are you still there? Do you like it?
  3. Thanks so much for the response. I've decided that the telephone triage isn't for me and I'm actually exploring preservice review nursing. It's still a WAH position...
  4. Does anyone have experience as a preservice review nurse for a large insurance company? It's a work at home position. Also, has anyone made the transition from floor nursing to WAH nursing? Any and all advice is appreciated!
  5. Can anyone give some pointers about working from home doing nurse advice line? Why's the best shift (five 8 hr shifts/wk)? Transitioning from the floor to this? All advice is appreciated!
  6. I went to WGU (Western Governors University). It's 100% online and you'll be so glad you did it! It's competency based and you can get through with it as quickly as you need to.
  7. I am a member of Nurses Unite and Nurses Show Your Srethoscopes and I have found them both to be positive forums for nurses to share they're experiences both personal and professional. As far as the other concerns mentioned in the post, nurses need to take initiative for themselves. I've ALWAYS been able to get my breaks and my hospital has adequate nurse patient ratios. Maybe someone should start a Facebook page or other forum dedicated to addressing the political aspects of nursing aforementioned. I can't help but feel that maybe Allnurses is a little envious of the popularity that these pages have obtained so quickly...
  8. I live in middle Tennessee and it was extremely hard for me to find a job as a new nurse and that was with 12 years of CNA experience. This was due to the fact the my region is over saturated with nurses. After diligently searching for six months, I finally found a job in a nursing home. I did that for six months and finally got a job working med surge in a hospital. I did that for 18 months and then got a job working critical care. My point is this, you need to take into account the dynamics of where you live. For me, I had to take what I could get...
  9. I actually flunked out of LPN school. It was a horrible experience and the instructors were not supportive at all. They made it very clear that this was a "weeding out process". Fast forward 12 years later; I am an RN, BSN working critical care at a prestigious magnet hospital. You determine your destiny. If this truly is your dream then you will do what you need to do to make it a reality. Maybe this program isn't for you. Maybe your calling is to be an RN not an LPN. These are all questions that you must answer for yourself.
  10. Greetings. I have just been admitted to WGU and will be starting on December 1st. I also have 35 CU's to complete. I know you're busy, but I would greatly appreciate any and all advice/tips you could give me about the program. I would love to compete this in six months! If you can do it I can do it!
