  1. Congratulations!!!:balloons: I am still waiting for a call or a letter... I had my interview in Sept.
  2. CONGRATULATION ON YOUR ADDMISSION!!!!:balloons: :)
  3. The day of my interview I had a pair of nice brown pants ($50.00), brown shoes($ 25)with 2cm heel, and a t-neck from Gap ($15.00 on sale). I did not have a purse, I left it with my husband. I don't think you have to impress the commitee with your outfit but how you wear it.I feel totally uncomfortable in the suit. So, I decided to wear the same basically cloth I usually wear to a job interview. When I sat down during the interview, I put my hands on the table and was showing that I am not nervous, just alert. I think, you have to be your self. I remember there was a girl who was behind me. She had a suit with high heel shoes. I could read on her face that she will be so-o-o glad when her day will be over!
  4. I have 2 kids and still debating if I should apply to other states or not...Meanwhile, I am waiting for response from Oakland because it it my first choice this year (even though I have to drive 1.5 every other day...)
  5. Have you thought about finding an anesthesia group that would finance your school and even pay a stipend? Just a thought... I know that I would do that in your circumstances.
  6. Good luck on your interview at Case! I did not get any dates yet, maybe not this year for me. But I am still hoping...
  7. I heard about Akron interviews, but I didn't apply to Akron this year. I just had my interview at Oakland, Beaumont hospital and it was great! Very nice short clinical quiz, and very pleasant interview with 4 staff including a director of the program. Did you apply anywhere else?
  8. I have 4 month exp. in med-surg ICU and 3.6GPA
  9. I just finished school in May but decided to apply(just to see what it's like)...
  10. Sure! It is much closer than driving to Royal Oak...So, you will be considered as a Toledo student? And, if you don't mind, how much of experience do you have?
  11. Quiz was not hard if you know the basics of ICU... I actually liked the interview process and was very relaxed.
  12. I work in Monroe,MI. Couldn't get a job in ICU in Toledo, so have to drive now. By the way, tomorrow I have an interview at Oakland Univ. Have you applied this year? And do you work in Toledo?
  13. I got a phone call yeasterday that I have an interview at Oakland (Beaumont Hosp.)on Wednsday at 9am!!!! I could not sleep! Was so excited! Any advices on the interview? Please...
  14. Can anyone tell me about Case Western Reserve University? I just applied to their program and went once to see the campus. People who I talked to seemed very nice and I loved the campus! Any comments?
  15. I applied to Oakland this year but did not have my ACLS before Sept.15th, just wanted to wish you good luck! :balloons:
  16. I like "resident" much more than a "student". There is a confidance behind "resident". Imagine if you are scheduled to have a surgery and you have a "student" who is going to provide anesthesia for you! I would personally refused to have a student by my side in that particular day.
  17. I completely agree with Livefree story! I applied at 4 hospitals for an ICU position right after school. At one hospital I worked as an aid during the senior year. They asked me where I see myself in 5 years and I told them about my plans to become a CRNA. I did not get the job in neither SICU, nor CCU or MICU! They had 3 open positions at that time! The ad was running in the local paper and was on bulletin board!!! I got denied because I did not "posses experience", but my college friend got hired right in and she never worked as an aid!!!Never had hospital experience! Other 3 hospitals asked me the same question:where I see myself in 5 years. At that time I did not get an idea of not telling the truth. Anyway, I had to apply into one of the Michigan's hospitals (the drive for me is 45 min. now!) and during an interview just said that I would like to pursue a Master's degree in the future but had not decided yet which one.I DIDN'T TELL THEM ABOUT CRNA! I was hired during an interview...I was offered position right then! Right now, only one person at my present job that I trust knows what my plans are. I still keep it as a secret. I would suggest-keep a SECRET...
  18. I agree with the above said and definitely recommend shadowing. When I first heard what other nurses say about CRNAs-I thought ,for some reason, that they are jealous... Maybe those RNs never saw CRNA at work and what they saying is not supported by the evidence. As a matter of fact, before I got a job at ICU I was told by my close friend who is a nurse that "nurses in ICU never do a thing, they just sit and stare at the monitors..." Her statement made me want to shadow an ICU nurse. I agree that many times nurses make comments that "they are the NURSES, but who are those-CRNAs? Overly paid..." 2 reasons,I think:don't know what the job is or more lokely, don't want to know. Not many people want to put life on hold like many of us on this site do, not many people want to go to school again in their 30-40's, and definitely not many people willing to sacrifice lifes of their families and put schooling first for 2 +years.
  19. Thank you for all the replies but I have to agree it's getting crazy on this site! I did not lie to anyone by saying that I would like to move to a bigger city. It is my goal...Also, if I don't have to take a GRE-I will be more than happy!I took practice GRE on a CD-ROM and did not do well, but I practiced MAT and actually just took it at University of Toledo (got 388).Case Western told me that score around 400 will be acceptable.I am hoping that my score will be acceptable to them considering that 13 years ago I did not speak English at all... Another thought I would like to share is that all the above mentioned tests are just a simple way of making money not checking and justifying a graduate student abilities.Woudn't you pay $300-400 for a test if they decide to raise a price? I definitely would just to get in! Anyway, I went through the list of schools and eliminated some(GRE!), chose some (no GRE,MAT or no tests req.)My GPA is 3.57 but I just graduated, so I went ahead and applied anyway to Oakland and Case Western. Oakland needed ACLS certificate but I just took a class and the deadline was Sep.15. Case didn't answered me yet whether they received a package or not, but I went for an open house and met CRNA people, they recommended applying anyway without experience. I hope I will hear soon. I know that chances are slim that I will get in for next year, but who knows? Next year I will apply to more colleges that don't req. GRE. I called some of them already and I am planning to take a Microbiology course (refresh., mine is old for them!)again in January at the community college($$$).I am particularly interested in Buffalo,NY and Case Western along with Oakland. I strongly believe that whether you took GRE or not-what counts is the ultimate goal:what kind of nurse you will be when you get your CRNA certificate... :balloons:
  20. Is your school strictly GRE or you have an option of taking MAT test? I found MAT test easier...
  21. I chose to take a MAT test instead of GRE.Some schools give you an opportunity to have that test taken. I found it easier than GRE.Any comments? By the way, I just send my test results to Case Western...
  22. I beleive that you need your BSN in nursing to get in ,probably, most schools.
