Minority SRNA/CRNA's
Reality is what reality is. I live and work in in New York City. The majority of nurses in New York City is people of color (some of the smartest people). I have work in New York Cornell to hospitals in Brooklyn. The two school in New York City have a small percent of AA and other people of color. Columbia University 2 out of 30 student. Many people of color applied, I know this for a fact. Downstate Medical Center this year 4 student. These are school that serve the community that is 99% people of color. The schools in CT only have admitted 1 to 2 people of color every 2-3 years are so. New Jersey first class 1 student of color, this year due to a lot of noise, they admitted 3 people of color ( one with a gpa of 4.0) When you have workhard to achieve a goal it is heartbroken to know that color matter. When I take care of my patients, I do not see color or I would not have choosen nursing as my career. I believe in fairness for all and hope that more people of color will continue to gain acceptance. Over the years I have informed high school student about the field of nurse anesthesia, hoping to informed them of this wondereful field. As written before I am not taking anything away from other qualify student who have gain admission. Sometimes I wonder why do they do interviews? It is to see what the applicant look like? Hate to sound like an angry minority. But good luck to all that are applying, minority or majority.

Minority SRNA/CRNA's
I know of a couple of minority CRNA and they have told me it was not easy from them to ge into school and over the last two years I realize what they were talking about. I am in my 30's and I have spent all my adult life as a RN (graduated at 19). As a minority applicant I could tell you that it is hard to get into school. I have the experience (10 years CTICU and 3 years Trauma), grades(3.4 overall and 4.0 science) and I interview well. I have had two alternate spots and turned down on two interviews. When I called the Program Directors and I asked how can I improve my application for future interview and never get a real answer. When I speak with other applicant of non miniority status and find out that they get into the same school that I applied to and have less experience and worst grades then I do it get me real angry. I am not taking anything away from other student that are qualify and get these spot. This is an issue that I will write the AANA on. I will continue to try, I refuse to give up and I would tell everyone the same. Not only the minority student, but the obese student and the "aged" RN. DO NO GIVE UP IF THIS IS WHAT YOU REALLY WANT!

Needs some advices about experience
Do not be discourage. Hope it work out for you in the other interview. I find it odd however that they email you and did not send you a formal letter of decline. May I ask which school is this?

Past mistakes...Do I have a chance to get into CRNA school
You have join the majority of student that applied to graduate program. When I went on my interview the Program Director and one of the CRNA told me they too had bad grades and it show that you have matured in character. One person told that too good of a grade sometimes show that you do not have any activitiess in your life other that school and you must be a well rounded applicant. Do not be discourage, I am interviewing right now and I will be in CRNA for the upcoming class. (Hope that I am not jinking myself but you must have a postive attitude) Good Luck

BIS Monitor
I agree with your CRNA. I have used the BIS monitor on several occassions for extremely critical patient on BiVAD in the ICU. If you have it why not used it.

How much math?
I agree with Focker,(I am not a CRNA) . Try to focus more on science classes. I had a couple of interviews and they asked me about my science classes. Unless you want to be a chemist, basic math and algebra is all you need in life. You need to calc. kg with medication. This is just a little information from a CRNA wannatobe.

What to wear (for women)?
Whatever you wear good luck to you. I have an interview myself on Tuesday. A black suit is my attire, I hope black is not a bad luck sign. I hope that I look good and won't be nervous. I think I know many of the topics, but sometimes interview have me tied tongued and I forget the simpliest things. Again good luck.

nasty doctor
On two occassion a medicial director verbally abuse me unprovoked. What do I do legally? I am a traveling nurse. The first time I have 5 other nurses that witness the episode. I brought to the attention of the ADN. This time I wrote a formal complaint (was also witnessed by other workers). I forward email it to the HR, VP of all department, The President of the hospital.

Columbia's program
Columbia started their interview process last year. My friend is in the program right now. Many of the studentss accepted are students that did the RN to BSN or second degree student with the school accerelated program. I heard is pretty hard ( but what program is not). I heard the clinical is pretty intense, but unlike many school in New York they try to follow the school academic calender ( vacation and so on). Overall I heard the program is pretty good. You have to keep your gpa up.
