Hi, I too, have been away from nursing for a while, 6 years from the nursing home, but, i was doing home care, i am presently back to the nursing home that i was working at. It is coming back to me. I do however have a question. When administering insulin at the prescribed time, and glucose testing merits the adminstration of a coverage dose of Regular insulin, at the same time , do i administer the insulin and the coverage at the same time?

Hello fellow lpns! I am going back to the nursing home i worked at for almost five years. i left in 2000, and in between that time , in 2002 my youngest son died from a mva, he lived for 6.5 hours, and died in my husbands and my arms, he was 17 and a senior, anyway, i am orienting, and i can't believe how much more paperwork there is involved! i am feeling a little overwhelmed, and wonder what i am getting myself back into. but, the advantage i have is the fact i know this nursing home from one end to the other, plus , i get 20.67 an hour, 3-11 shift! But, since i will be working part time i figure i can handle it for the wages, i keep telling myself it is only a couple of days a week, but, i am nervous , i started orienting yesterday, the don will be giving me 10 days, it is coming back to me, as i am observing, but, man, the paperwork!!!!! I feel that since almost 4 years have gone by, (4 years Oct. 24) i need to dust off my license, and go back to work, nothing will ever bring my son back. i do have another one who is 25 and an emt at our local hospital, he also is a deputy coroner. i need some encouragement badly!!!!!!!! I too feel overwhelmed

i just checked for my license, in the state of Pa. they have my town and state where i live, listed next to my name and the status of my license, you are right, any crackpot can find out where you live! I just went to the portal and i only had to list my last and first name , and, viola! there everything was! from my graduate licence number to my professional number!:angryfire What happened to our right to privacy? I agree.

Be careful when you enter home health care, you never know what situations you may find yourself in , when i did home health , during orientation they show you a movie on how to protect yourself, but, you are flying solo, no one else is there with you and if you have a nut in the house, you are in danger!:caduceus:

Oct24, 2002, we lost our 17 almost 18 yo son to a traumatic car accident, he lived for 61/2 hours, got 78 units of blood and died in our arms, his dad and mine, since then i have had post traumatic stress. i took 3 years off. but, i slowly am trying to get back, i did work in a nursing home, charge nurse of 6 cna's (if we were lucky) Anyway, i presently am doing home care for a woman that has ms. the pay is only $8.75, an hour. But i am ready and need to make more money than that. But, im a little, no, a lot scared. of going back full time. especially to a hospital, since i know what i still see in my mind.

i am out there only for my fellow man or woman. that is why i'm a nurse. that is my end objective.

I dont look down my nose at my fellow nurses, i was just saying of an instance , where all the nurses on that floor ate their young . even the one supervisor told me that. it was not just the one nurse. but, we all should be compassionate and understanding with all of the green nurses out there that are full of questions and tentative.

:angryfire I agree, when i was still green, i worked stepdown and icu, the one lpn that worked there took it upon herself to tattle on everything i did.I would ask questions, but apparently, i asked toomany, Any way this started, well before i became a nurse, before i ever knew she existed, apparently my husband beat her brother up years ago when they were teens, and she saw may last name on my badge, and made my life hell, from then on. i was eventually told to quit or be fired. so i stayed out of hospital's pretty much, since then. :angryfire

Two and a half years ago, We had a traumatic event in our life, we lost our youngest son to a car accident (head-on) and another woman was killed instantly, anyway to make a horrible story short, did you ever hear of the famous last words" I'm a nurse, i can handle it? I had been trained in trauma nursing, as i worked icu, and stepdown unit, for a short time. anyway, when your 0wn child is lying there broken, it is a different story. Because, as a mom, I couldn't do anything for him and as a nurse, I couldnt either, anyway, that gave me a horrible blow. He died Oct.24,2002, my husbands only other sibling died at age 45 Oct.23. 2001 the same way, head on. He was an R.N. on his way to surgery at Williamsport hospital, in our area. So I have been dealing with post traumatic stress. I am slowly making my way back. I am presently doing home care. But , I am ready to get out there and start making some real money now.! I miss being on the go. Do I need to take nursing credits anywhere? I have taken off for 2 years. But, my license is current, I wouldn't give that up for the world, I worked too hard for it.
