  1. I had the same issue with this. I sent a money order so I had no way of knowing when they recieved it. It takes an act of God to get through to talk to a real person. Every time I would call I would get a different story. One lady told me I should have had them a month ago and she would personally walk the profile to someone who could make this happen. Two weeks later I call back and someone told me they had no documents and were waiting for background to come through. At that point I asked to speak to a person in charge and left a voicemail. I gave up at that point. 2 weeks later they sent it out to me. Then I did not get my wallet card and moved so it was sent back to CA and "destroyed" after a few months. I had to pay an additional fee to get a duplicate. Goodluck. I will NOT let these expire. Total time was almost 6 months.
  2. I literally have been putting off my FL license for a month after I received my finger print cards in the mail because it was so confusing. Just found this and completed everything in 2 hours. I'm in California now and found a fieldprint location and have an appointment soon. I completed the CE requirement, NURSYS and application. All together it costs $235.75. Thank you so much for taking the time to list this. This has helped me so much!
  3. I just left there! I worked in psych and loved it. They have low staff to patient ratios. In psych it was 1:3. From October- April they have snow... lots of snow. Thats why I left, I do not like cold weather or snow. Very nice hospital, one of the best I have been to. The staff were friendly and I loved everything about Vermont except the weather!
  4. These are all great suggestions. I really wanted an Infiniti coupe but am looking around more before making a decision. I think the most important factors will be good gas mileage and space. A great, loud audio system is a must. Thanks for all that responded.
  5. I'm going to be buying a used car in the next few months. I have a 2003 mustang that is terrible on gas with 147,000 miles on it. I'm scared it wont make it from Vermont to California. So my question is what would y'all recommend? I always seem to load my car full of stuff but trying to pack light this time. Is there an "ideal" travel nurse car? I'm currently in Vermont, which had snow when I arrived in March. My mustang did not do well in snow. I don't plan to go back up to the northern states, but I never know where I will go. Psych openings are limited so I'm not to picky. My dream has been to go to California, and after waiting almost 5 months to get my liscense, I'm ready to go. Also looking for a travel buddy. I'll be done in Vermont in December and looking to go to Cali in January 2015. Any tips, comments, suggestions on a great vehicle for travel or California would be most apprieciated.
  6. Thanks for all who responded. My tattoos have worked in my favor with the population I work with. I work in psych, with kids and adults. Many of the kids would open up to me because they said I looked less "motherly and someone who is relatable." I always act professional. I've heard many nasty remarks made about my shoes or tattoos. At the end of the day I'm still a great nurse, to me thats all that counts.
  7. I also have several dansko shoes that are funky, such as the green python and a houndstooth print pair. A co-worker said they were not professional and I should have a solid black pair. I like my funky shoes and my pts do too!
  8. Times are changing, tattoos are all over the place. I have heard a lot of talk about them "not being professional." What exactly does a "professional nurse" look like anyway? What makes someone with a tattoo look not professional? What if a nurse has thier ears gauged, how is that different from "regular earrings"? I have never heard anyone ever give good explanation on this subject, maybe you all can help?!?!
  9. I've been a nurse almost 6 years. I've had over 12 jobs, all in the same area. I'm a traveler now. My philosophy is if you are not happy or a better opportunity comes along...go for it. I have never been turned down a job that I really wanted due to my resume.
  10. I have been a psych nurse for 5 years now. I also was a cutter in my younger years and my arm was covered in scars. I eventually got a sleeve (tattoo) because I got tired of looking at it. Personally, I feel my scars/tattoos add to my story. My patients notice and feel more open and comfortable talking to me about these issues because obviously I know how they feel and can relate with them. Most think it is a call for attention or help. While some are just attention seeking, others do it for a release. Nurses need to remember they are suppose to "help" people and not be so judgmental to staff or patients. Keep your head up, be proud of where you came from and who you are now because you may help a patient one day. Maybe even help a judgmental nurse understand (and you will meet a whole lot of those!) Good luck in school.
