  1. This is not true. It sounds like you are saying lpns are not nurses. As a lpn , I can work independently.
  2. Hang in there, I too went from a cena to a nurse at the same facility. Some of the Cenas I thought were my friends turned on me when I became a nurse. Becuase now I am not their buddy I am their supervisor. But I also have some great friends that support me, too. It is hard at first, but it gets better and I'm glad I stayed. I also found it funny that nurses and supervisors that would not give the time of day when I was a cena, now talk to me.
  3. I work in geriatrics and I also see some form of neglect from the residents families. Some of my residents haven't had a visitor in years. We had a guy pass away the other night, he had no family listed in his contacts. All he had was a guardian. So I know what you mean, sometimes you do take it home. At least I do. Becuase of nurses like you those children had somebody to care and love them for a little while anyway.

Do any of you peds nurses see abused children? If so, how do you leave it at work? How do you deal with the anger you might feel and the injustice of it?
  5. good job, we need more angels like you in the nursing field. if more people stood up for the ones that can't protect themselves, we would have a much better world. may god bless you.
  6. Good for you, I work in a skilled nursing home and I love it. Someday when I get my RN and beyond I will probably move on, but for now I am happy. The place I work at, I went from a CENA to a LPN, I've been there for four years. The floor I work on is a rehab floor so I see a little bit of everything from high aquity(sp) to short term stays. I also take care of the elderly. I have gotten very close to some of them and their families. Good luck to you.
  7. The dress code for nurses is all white, where I work. Its hard keeping them pure white, they get dingy and sometimes stained after awhile.
  8. Hi, I have been at my LTC for almost four years, first as a Cena then as a LPN. I've been an LPN for 7 months. My question is, are all LTCs the same to work for, or are some worse or better? I feel I need to move on and their is another LTC in town that pays more money and my friend that works there loves it there. She is also a new nurse and worked for my LTC for awhile. She likes the new place a lot better than mine. When I mentioned that I was going to start looking for a new job, alot of the people where I work say that all LTCs have the same problems. :icon_confused:
  9. Hi, I was a Cena(thats how we say it in Michigan for about 10 years before I became a nurse. It is a very good way to get you foot in the door. I know I learned alot over the years that helped me with nursing school. In Michigan, our cena classes are two weeks or 80 hours, then we take the state test. We can work for about 2 months before we have to take our tests, I think. In our state,Community Colleges offer the class for about $350 (someone correct me if I am wrong). Also some Longterm care facilities will offer the program and pay you while you are learning. Some facilities will pay for your state test. It is a certification course. I hope I was helpful.
  10. Hi Jess1983, I am a domestic abuse survivor. Its not an easy time in your life and its going to be hard starting over, but you can do it. I agree with the above poster that if he does it once he will do it again. You will still be a great nurse in spite of this and you may be able to help someone else in this situation. He may beg you to come back and he may have all kinds of apologies and promises of not doing it again, but as hard as it is, try not to fall for it. I say try becuase I fell for it a few times until the last time and I finally got out of the realationship. With Gods help, you can do it. I hope I have made sense. Hugs, Yarncrogirl
  11. You three are in my prayers.
  12. Hi I am a cna and I am also going to Nursing school to be a LPN. I don't like the idea of Med techs either. Especially now that I see just how much we have to know as nurses. Also there is no way I am going to risk my licence either, when I get one that is, by letting a Cna pass meds. I wouldn't want an unlicenced person giving any of my family members medication either. I want someone who took the dosage calculations and pharmacology classes to do that. So I too will remain closed minded. Yarn
