  1. Hey all! Congratulations to all who were accepted! I was accepted too, but wanted to write and let those on the waitlist know I'll be giving up my spot. I know somebody great will take my place Good luck!
  2. Thank you PinkEagle! I'm really excited about it. Super small class size, 1:1 clinicals, and beautiful Charlottesville. Good luck to you!
  3. Hi all, I also received my acceptance into the ABSN program yesterday but will be declining it to attend UVA's Masters Entry Program. Hopefully this will free up a spot for somebody on the waitlist. For anybody who hasn't heard anything back yet, I understand your worry and disappointment. Last year I was 68 out of 70 on the waitlist for the only school I applied to (UCLA), and it was devastating. Let me emphasize: devastating. This cycle, after a year's more experience (CNA licensure and CNA job, over one year hospice and hospital volunteering, and a second job as an activities assistant in a nursing home), I seem to have my pick of schools. The work also gave me much more substance for my essays. It gets better and if you are waitlisted this year, it is NOT the end. I promise! I know somebody wonderful will take my place in this year's class!
  4. Thank you so much Kaitlyn for all of your insights! I think 5 classes over a 2 day period is enough to focus on, for now, too...
  5. Hi there! I have a question for Kaitlyn, Danielle, or any other current CNL students. Do you guys know of any students who have also taken a language course while enrolled in the CNL program, even if it is just pass/fail or audit? As a CNA in Southern California I have quite a few patients who *only* speak Spanish, and I've been self-studying for the past few months to better work with these individuals. It has made a huge difference in my caregiving and I would love to continue learning in a more formal setting. Is there any possibility I might be able to enroll in one of UVA's language courses, or do we simply not have enough time? Any thoughts?
  6. jk i couldn't friend you. friend me! and thank you for making the group.
  7. thanks blondyesb and likewise i just joined too (and friended ya) fyi the request will be coming from me, Hallie, not somebody named tom or carlos like you might expect. they are my dogs haha.
  8. I already accepted too ocWin! Where did you find out how to set up your email? Also, would anybody want to join a facebook group so we can talk using our real names/on a closed forum? let me know and i'd be happy to make one!
  9. well... it is the big reveal! I got in! Anybody else?
  10. I haven't heard anything else and I also did not send a thank you note because I was not given the email address of the individual who interviewed me. While I could have looked it up I felt it would have been creepy since she did not share it with me!
  11. gahhhhh! this is brutal!
  12. Hey did anybody else just receive an email from UVA on how to register for their student information system?! It said that the letter was not an offer of admission but by following the link i was assigned a UVA student id?! I'm totally confused and am reaaaallly hesitant to get excited about this. anyone else?
  13. Hi Hopejoy, I am able to log on and it looks the same for me. It also was normal speed. Was your problem resolved?
  14. AHHHHHHHHH I keep logging on to my applyyourself obsessively hoping to see something! Do all of yours still say Interview Stage? I can't believe we will know in just a little over 5 days...
  15. blondyesb I've had the dreams too! LOL it is all I am thinking about, but I wish I wasn't because I don't want to be let down.
  16. Indeed! Elefant, is UVA your first choice? I briefly checked out the boards for two other schools I'm applying to (Duke and JHU, but UVA is my first choice) and saw you applied as well :)
  17. Thank you for the update UVA Grad Nursing! I'm also curious... do you know how many people applied to the program this year? And of those how many were selected to interview? Thank you for keeping us in the loop.
  18. Looks like a bunch of us are getting called for interviews! I'm happy for everybody. I thought mine went well too, but only time will tell! :) Does anybody know how many people applied to the program this year? Or how many were selected for interviews? I know they're accepting 36 into the Charlottesville cohort, so I'm curious what the odds are for acceptance once one has been called for an interview....!
  19. Thank you blondyesb and shrupert1! I actually received my interview request earlier today, it will be next week. I hope both of yours went well!
  20. Hi there! I am also applying to the CNL program and I thought I would wish everybody good luck. I have not heard anything about an interview yet but I am keeping my fingers crossed. Like some of you my interest is also in hospice and palliative care. I've been a volunteer for the past year and a half (in palliative care, hospice and skilled nursing) and recently passed the state exam for CNA. In my former life I was a news editor, but switching careers to become a nurse was the best decision I think I've ever made for myself. I'd love to go to UVA and I will keep the board posted if I hear anything!
  21. Hi all, I just wanted to chime in again. #68 on the waitlist here. I felt pretty devastated the first day, but am feeling a new sense of purpose on how I can make my application stronger for next year (although I will not be reapplying to UCLA). I want to do CNA/EMT training, get paid hospital experience, and continue with volunteer work. In the long run of life, beginning nursing school either this year or next year won't make a difference. And there is such a need for nurses, UCLA is not the end all and be all by just churning out 60 or so a year. It sucks and it is hard but we will all be fine. I remember when I was in middle school I was crushed about not getting into my two first choices for high school (yep, big fat rejections). And then it was when I applied to a new school as a sophomore, I got in and met the love of my life who I'm still with today. So, when one door closes, new, amazing doors can open. Sorry to be sharing platitudes, but it is what has helped me get through the initial devastation and sadness :/ If we all care this much, we are going to be great, great nurses. This just gives some of us more time to prepare...and more opportunities previously unconsidered...I think, at least.
  22. FYI i just got my email, I'm 68 on the waitlist. BUT LIFE GOES ON!
  23. dude it was my birthday too. on monday. i really agree with that other poster we need to get drinks haha
  24. I did the same with my personal statement. I thought I had never wrote anything truer about myself and wondered if I had been too personal. I was really upset last night and talking to a good friend of mine and she asked me if I would really want to attend a school that didn't want me after everything I put into my application. And the truth is, I think if UCLA doesn't want me, then it might not be the best school for me. Maybe the type of nursing I'm interested in (hospice and palliative care) isn't something that is as valued/practiced there. Maybe they focus elsewhere, and this is really a blessing for us who did not get in -- that there will be a better fi out there for us. We'll all get one more year experience, and apply other places. There is such a strong need for nurses in the U.S., especially with all the baby boomers coming up, that we WILL BE NURSES. It's just the unknown of next year that's hard. But in my experience, and I hope all of your experiences too, everything always turns out OK. It just always does!
  25. That's exactly what ------------ said too, Robyn. As difficult as this process has been for us, there is no reason they wouldn't be straightforward.
