1. When you forget to warm your stethescope...
2. It always surprises me how different things are from hospital to hospital/state to state. We routinely print out a patients lab results (it is theirs after all) but not physician notes, test results, etc. I even print the whole visit and explain trends, show them the "normal" columns, etc. I think it helps keep the patient happy and on board with his/her care, and can bring up questions for them to ask the physician on rounds.
3. I usually ask them if they want me to print off labs or whatever so they don't have to gawk over my shoulder. Just read it from a paper, lol
4. I don't let it bother me. I just turn off the "real person" talk like saying output in cups and start using ml, etc. Also the "note takers" don't bother me, I spell things for them to help them looking it up (like medications), which that bothers some of my colleagues. I personally don't let providers know I am a nurse when they are caring for my family, because I don't want them to feel like I am judging them (I'm not) or make them nervous. When they are caring for me, they usually know, because the know me, lol. so I try to be as non-judgemental and open as I can. Who wants a nervous nurse?
5. I would not necessarily do that, because hospitals do background checks and if you paid employment taxes it may show up. You could always say you forgot but if you get a position I would not want a background check to bring up unnecessary questions. I would just say that they needed a higher skill level than what you had at the time and leave it at that. I would not worry about being rejected. After 30 years in nursing I have learned that if you miss the bus you want, there is another better bus around the corner. Also, God puts you where He needs you to be. Just plug away and put out a LOT of applications and take advantage of contacts you may have. Sometimes it isn't what you know but who you know that gets your foot in the door. And nursing is a small world.
6. If you can live comfortably on either salary, if the money and benefits were equal, where would you work and why? That is what you need to ask yourself.
7. wow, I had no idea it was that competitive!
8. Congratulations to everyone accepted! Is anyone accepted for the program in the San Antonio, New Braunfels, Austin area?
9. I'm in New Braunfles!
10. I am in New Braunfels but my understanding is that the program requires 6 visits to campus in total
11. Congratulations!! I am from New Braunfels, but I am sure you will meet some people from DFW at orientation as well :)
12. It is hard to wait! I hope you get an answer soon!
13. Did you do your supplemental application and pay the additional application fee?
14. I was wondering the same thing because I was accepted before Christmas. I think they review the applications monthly. My acceptance e-mail was sent 12/22, and now some came out around the same time in January.
15. I am in the same boat in San Antonio. I applied to UTHSC in SA and am waiting on my interview, but I went ahead and accepted at UTMB because I only had 2 weeks. If I get accepted to both, it will be a tough decision! I feel confident about UTMB because I have heard so many positive things about their program and I already have a family practice doctor in line as a preceptor. Reading posts like yours makes me even more confident.
16. I am not sure how many they admit each cycle, but I would think you could e-mail Ned Pucek and ask him, he is the admissions coordinator, here is his contact information: Ned Pucek Admissions Coordinator UTMB School of Nursing http://nursing.utmb.edu 301 University Blvd., Galveston, TX 77555-1154 P 409.772-8278 F 409.772-8211 E [email protected]
17. a friend of mine told me that Nursing CAS does not verify the transcripts until you actually pay the application fee for the school.
18. I actually submitted my application from Nursing CAS November 11, got mystar access on November 16, and got my acceptance into the program on December 22. I was really surprised to get an acceptance before the application cycle had ended. Mine took about 5-6 weeks from beginning to end, but yours may be longer since they had a couple weeks off from the holidays. I know that I got the acceptance through e-mail and a few days later, I also got a letter in the mail with some ADA forms I had to mail back to the school.
19. Thank you for the reply, Aubeangel704, the information helps a lot. I applied to several programs and this is my first acceptance and I will have to accept or decline before I hear from any of the other programs.
20. may I ask, are you in the Galveston area? what drew you to UTMB? I am in New Braunfels, I wonder how hard it is to have them negotiate the preceptor contract once I find a preceptor.
21. on my email, then I went to my star and saw that I had an accepted in the application section. The email was to my personal email, but they said a written letter was in the mail as well. The e-mail was from

Pucek, Edward S. maybe it went to spam

22. I just got an acceptance for Fall 2017, I am in the New Braunfels area.
23. I just finished the Texas Tech RN-BSN program actually a few days ago. I thought it was fairly easy, we had lots of message board posts (I can't think of a class that did not have one) but the highest I think was about 500 words. You also have to reply to posts by other students. Also, papers, but again the highest was 2,000 words or 5 pages long. Also, group projects, which I lucked out and had great group members to work with. There were a couple or three tests and a few quizzes. The books are all available for rental through amazon except one which you have to buy from TT directly. Cost for books were small, maybe $100/semester. I am a good at BS so I found the workload very reasonable. I did the 3 semester plan and took 3 classes the first semester, 4 classes the second semester and 3 classes in summer, my last semester. Each class was 5 weeks long, and there were 2 times I took 2 classes at once. Overall, I had multiple jobs going and worked more than full time hours and found the program very doable. I could sit down in 1 day and knock out 1-2 weeks worth of work no problem. I got all A's in the program and was not stressed. However as I said, good at BS and researching. The 2 semester plan is taking 2 classes every time, and you finish in the middle of the second semester so it is a 6 month program. Additionally, the program cost is about $7,500 and you will have a chance to sign up for scholarships during orientation. Do it. No kidding. I got $5,000 in scholarships from TT over 3 semesters. Another thing, sometimes you will feel like you are in an APA boot camp. There are programs you can buy which automatically put your information into APA format. Consider buying one. They are like $30 but TT does have places you can send your papers for APA and content feedback as well. My one frustration in the program was that the grading in APA was not consistent throughout the program and what was OK with one teacher was not OK with another. One piece of advice: Cite every single sentence. Yes. Every. Single. Sentence. Good luck!
24. Well, I got my LVN many years ago in 1988 through the SAISD adult education which became the Baptist LVN program. I went to SAC in their LVN to RN bridge program and finished that in 2013. That program was much less competitive to get into than the generic track. I got a job offer the day of my last clinical with Baptist Health System on night shift, and 6 months later I went to Methodist Health on dayshift. No problems getting a job at all. I am currently working on my BSN through Texas Tech online. I was very happy with my program at SAC, although that program has its frustrations (like all other programs). I have known Galen nurses, Hallmark nurses, those programs are fine but they have their frustrations as well, and you are going to finish with a $30K debt that may or may not be supported by your new grad RN pay, and prerequisite courses which may or may not be accepted anywhere else should you decide to get your BSN down the line (most hospitals are insistent on this nowadays at least here in SA)
25. I don't know how to send a PM, I rented the first semester, I am in the 3 semester plan. I got them for just over $100 from amazon.
