  1. Great amorrow, thank you for your response!
  2. Congratulations! Just wondering, how long did it take for you to hear back from the email that stated your application was referred to the admissions committee to the email that stated you were accepted? All this waiting is wearing me down! Thanks, hope to hear from you soon!!
  3. Hello all! I just recently received a phone call for an interview at Tripler Army Medical Center and was hoping there was someone on here that would be able to give me tips on how to interview for a government nursing position. This will be my first government interview and was told it will be in front of a "panel of interviewers". Any tips and tricks would be great.. and hopefully help to calm my nerves. Thanks in advance, and I hope to hear from ya'll soon!!
  4. tmartin83, I have not signed up for military spouse preference yet but plan on doing that next week, thanks! I have just over a year hospital experience. I have been looking at USAJOBS everyday since I've been here and have only seen an opening for Hickam but it's one of those open applications where it's not guaranteed they have a vacancy at the moment. I plan on applying to Castle. Which civilian hospital do you work at and how much do they pay? Thank you so much for your input!!
  5. Hello, I am a military spouse and have been reading a lot of threads about how long it takes for RNs to obtain a GS position here in Hawaii. For those of you who have PCS'd here, how long did it take to hear back from positions you have applied to on usajobs? What other ways are there to apply for GS positions besides usajobs, would it be worth walking into the military base clinics directly? I think PCS season is coming up here in December so I'm hoping more positions will open up then. In the meantime, I am applying for civilian jobs and looking for volunteer opportunities. Looking forward to any advice :)
  6. Nothing is wrong with civilian, we just assumed it was better for me to get into the government now so that it will be easier in the long run. I was also worried about getting a job at a civilian hospital and then getting a phone call from a govt clinic soon after. Then, I would have to turn down the govt job because I've already committed to civilian. Oh, the struggle. Haha.
  7. Thank you everyone for your insight! (Also, Meriwhen, thank you for moving this thread. I didn't even notice it the first time!) I guess I'm still on the fence on whether I should just go ahead and give up waiting for GS positions or apply to the civilian hospitals.
  8. Hello! I joined this website with the hopes of getting more insight on how to apply for government nursing positions. My husband is in the Navy and we have recently moved to Hawaii. I have been unemployed for almost 3 months! We have been debating whether or not to apply at a civilian hospital or a military clinic. I figured, since we will be with the Navy for years, it'll be easier for me to get a job at our future locations since I will already be in the GS system. What do you guys think? I have a master's degree in nursing with only about a year and a half experience under my belt. I hope this is enough! I am getting so discouraged with searching for jobs at military clinics. Do you guys have any tips on applying for government positions?? ANYTHING would be very much appreciated :)
  9. Hi Niki, I also just recently moved here to Hawaii and have been working hard to get a job at a military clinic as well. My husband is working at k-bay and was hoping you had tips on applying for these positions. There doesn't seem to be many openings on usajobs.gov. How did you apply for your job?? Congratulations, by the way, I'm so jealous!
