Anyone else get a call from a Nurse Recruiter at Virginia Hospital Center?
Ditto here - I just heard from a recruiter. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will be called in for an interview :)

New Grad RN 2011
I did attend the job fair at Senatar Potomac Hospital but was told upon arrival that it was only for "experienced" nurses and that I did not qualify. Hence, I was not even granted an interview.

HELP, ADVICE... anything on getting a job for a New Graduate RN!!!!
My search has been interesting. It turns out that the census has been so low in certain areas at Fairfax Hospital that some nurses had their shifts cut. Some area hospitals (all in DC or Maryland) have posted for new grads and I did get a call from Children's Hospital this week; however, I had already given up on the hospitals and accepted a job at a nursing home and will be starting next week. Hopefully the economy will start picking up and there will be more options for new grads - in the meantime, I will be gaining skills.

HELP, ADVICE... anything on getting a job for a New Graduate RN!!!!
Looking for an update on the OP's job status. I graduated in May of 2008 and am only now looking to enter the field of nursing. I needed a break after school and boards and then time slipped away from me. I just started looking within the last week and am so discouraged at the prospects for new grads. Is it the time of year? Everyone wants experience but that seems impossible to obtain. Nursing homes, home health care, and hospitals do not have RN positions. I have tried, Inova, VA Hospital Center, Prince William, Ft. Belvior, Nursing Homes, and home health staffers. Any recommendations?

Which program to apply to (LPN vs RN)?
Make sure you get your "Request for Evaluation of Transcript" completed and mailed in with your official unopened transcript from GMU. Also include your high school transcript because NVCC would not allow my college chemistry classes as the required low level chemistry. I could have fought it but it was easier to get the transcript from my high school. Also note, that I had to take another Psychology because the Psych 201 and 202 or Psych 231 and 232 are required. I had Psych 201 and 231 from JMU and was required to take 202 - bummer! The deadline to apply is May 15, 2007 and the list usually fills up around that time when the Spring NAS 162 classes finish. It is good that you are working on the application now but the transcript review can take a while. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Which program to apply to (LPN vs RN)?
Since you already have a degree from GMU your best path is to put your application into NVCC. This program does not compete, applications taken and you are accepted until there is no more room (some applicants from the waiting list will also get in). This is a great program and grads are sought after from the local hospitals. The class this year started with 183 students. The NVCC program is for an ADN. You will then be able to take 7 classes at GMU to finish up the BSN (no need to apply to the nursing school - just show your RN license) or take 3 bridge classes and a grad level statistics course to get into the MSN program. You can find out all of this information on both NVCC.edu and GMU.edu websites. Best of luck and apply to NVCC as soon as possible so it doesn't fill up!

Something all OB nurses should know.
I am so sorry for your losses. You bring up an interesting point about burials. I had a friend that miscarried at around 20 to 24 weeks (it was many years ago and my memory is a bit fuzzy) in Florida. I remember being very surprised that she was required by law to have a burial for the child. Do different states have different laws dictating what will happen to the baby and is there a certain number of weeks of development that determine this rule?

Quick help w/ Chem problem Plse!
If the question asks for the number of atoms then wouldn't it be: 5.63 x 6 = 33.78? With 6 being the number of Hydrogen atoms within 1 mole of the compound? 6.023 x 10(23) x 5.63 = the total number of molecules in the compound of 5.63 moles I could also be wrong, but I looked it up on this website: http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Campus/5361/chlorate/whatmole.html

High school transcript needed
This will definately depend on your school. I have a BS which includes a high level math, biology and chemistry and I was still required to submit my high school transcripts. I was told they needed to see the "basic" level courses which had been taken in high school and to make sure I had passed the courses. Does this make sense? NO, but I sent in the transcripts anyway.

So What, I Skipped Class!!
Princess74 - Have you thought about taking the ELI classes through the community college? I just finished with NAS161 and NAS162 (anatomy, physiology and microbiology) through NVCC. The only time you need to come to class is a lab weekend in Annandale. The ELI classes are great. You take the exams when you are ready and the material for the tests is well prepared as well as the online lab exercises. http://www.vccs.edu/vccsonline/details.asp?id=19351 I highly recommend this way of learning anatomy. GMU vs NOVA vs Marymount
NOVA has a great reputation and with your VA Tech degree you will only need a few bridge courses to begin your master's program should you decide to go on. That is my plan. Enjoy your summer and look forward to the beginning of nursing school. I will be applying once I finish A&P I and A&P II, hopefully I will be accepted by Christmas. Good Luck.

GMU vs NOVA vs Marymount
Lexy, I believe the difference between GMU and NOVA is in the Research and Community Health classes that are given at GMU. I am trying to recall this from NOVA's information session. NOVA costs about half the price of GMU and the classes will be usually 2 full clinical days (ex: 7am - 3pm) and two other days with a class or two. Not too bad. This could allow for a part-time job. Classes and clinicals are offered day and night. GMU has many more prerequisites than NOVA, I would need to take Nutrition and possibly Ethics. Plus I am not sure if my Stats class would be given credit after 20 years. My thought is to continue on for the MSN (employer sponsored). GMU's MSN degree requires 3 bridge classes after 2 years of RN experience with a previous alternative bachelor's degree. A graduate level stats class is required. I like the idea of the accelerated program but that is a lot of work in such a short period of time. Let us know when you hear from GMU. GOOD LUCK :)

GMU vs NOVA vs Marymount
Has anyone heard about how difficult the entry to GMU's nursing program is? NOVA seems to be relatively easy with rolling admissions. I have read about the long waiting list at NOVA but as of 5/10/05 there were still five places available for the 2005 fall class so hopefully that will not be a problem for next year. I will not be ready to apply until after the new year since I am taking A&P I now and plan on taking A&P II this fall. Congratulations PedsRN2005 on graduating this month. I too am a single mom and think that NOVA's program may be better time wise for me also with a nine year old. How did you handle the clinical hours with your children?

A&P I: The Summer '05 Anatomy and Physiology Club
Hi everyone, I am taking A&P this summer and I just finished my first exam. It has been 20 years since I graduated from college and I was so nervous about taking this test that my hands were shaking. Luckily, I pulled through just fine:) I found that the online multiple choice and outlines where helpful with my Hole's Anatomy book. Bridget
