  1. I graduated in June. I didn't really start looking until end of Sept, right after I passed the NCLEX. I am hoping something comes up soon because I'm pulling my hair out being at home all the time, lol. But I just started an online RN-BSN program, so at least I have something to keep me busy again.
  2. I'm pretty desperate for a job right now, so I applied to all of them, lol. I'm willing to do the drive, but I'm closest to St. John's in Santa Monica. I also don't have a BSN, so that puts me lower on the totem pole... Gotta do what I gotta do! My choices are NICU and PICU. How about you?
  3. Thanks for starting the thread! I also applied and will be following. Good luck, all!
  4. Awesome! I thought about it for like a minute and decided I will just go, lol. I already sent my acceptance. =D I'm hoping to do the joint BSN program SMC has with CSU Dominguez Hills.
  5. Oh, wow! Good luck! :)
  6. I am waiting on LACC, but I live closer to Santa Monica. I think LACC sends admission notices at the end of this month. How about you?
  7. I got in!! I just found out today. I'm pretty sure I'm going to accept. I was so anxious this whole week, lol. Ahh, I'm so happy!
  8. Yes, I am hopeful. They had the courtesy to call me, that must mean something! Thanks for the tips, I'll try not to think about it this weekend and not check my e-mail obsessively Monday morning!
  9. Congrats to you guys! I just got a call saying they are still evaluating one of my prereqs and I'll hear back on Monday. The wait is going to kill me! But I am confused. Aren't they letting the first 40 students with the highest points in, and then alternates? If they haven't calculated my points yet but already sent admissions decisions, do you think they are trying to see where on the alternate list I rank? Edit: Oh yes, and also seeing if I'm even qualified for the program. I wish they told me which prereq they are evaluating. =/
  10. Is the acceptance letter received by mail or e-mail? I haven't received anything yet by e-mail, but I just moved out of my grandma's house, so she would be receiving any mail correspondence. I'm so anxious!
  11. I thought we were supposed to hear back at the end of April, it is already May. I was thinking about calling them today. We are supposed to get notified by e-mail, right? I'm freaking out too..... so nervous!
  12. I'm waiting on BSN acceptance letter. Good luck, everyone!
  13. Hello, good luck with your training! I started my weekend CNA training last month and we had our first clinicals this past weekend at a skilled nursing facility. The first day was a culture shock for sure. One thing to keep in mind that our instructor also emphasized to us, is that the CNAs you shadow may do things differently or cut corners than how we've been trained. She said to make sure to do the skills portion of the certification exam the way it's outlined in our textbook and not to follow any of their deviations if they have any. To be honest, I'm kind of shocked at the state of the facility we are at. The CNA I shadowed the first day would do her procedures on the resident without telling the resident what she's doing (we are trained to tell the resident what procedures we're doing to them), and I felt so bad for the resident. Like for example, the CNA wanted me to help move an obese resident to her side during bathing so she can clean her back and buttocks. But instead of telling the resident, "Ok, ma'am, we are going to roll you to your side on the count of three," she just told me to come over and help her, and we just did it without saying anything to the resident. She didn't even tell her to hold onto the rail, the resident just reached out and grabbed it when we started. And she also kept leaving me alone with the residents, expecting me to know what to do, when it's my first day! (And I know we practice in skills lab, but that's totally different from real life, and I was super nervous.) I shadowed a different CNA the next day, and she was much nicer to her residents and to me and the other CNA shadowing her. She was always in the room with us for things like bathing in case we needed any help. So I was a little relieved to see it wasn't the whole culture of the facility, but maybe just the work ethic of that particular CNA. I hope you have a good clinical site and good CNA's to shadow!
  14. Hi achurley, You might be right about that. Anyway, I called the admissions office last week, and they said to look for my academic evaluation in the mail. So, I should be getting it soon, maybe even today!
  15. Hi kham, Thanks for the info! I had not heard of the fires, and just looked it up. How terrible!
