  1. Your survey was great! I too am approaching this topic in a different manner. Please look for my survey and try to complete it! I am also a WGU student. Good Luck!!
  2. Failure to communicate is one of the largest reasons for medical error! I am currently working on my capstone project and my survey will be posted on this site shortly. Safety Huddles are now being adopted all over to bring awareness, to prevent errors before they happen, and basically so everyone is one the same page with a patients plan of care. These huddles have been proven to be very successful if everyone speaks their mind. But what happens if nurses and DR's are afraid to voice their concerns? All disciplines have been trained differenlty how to communicate. We need to all be effective communicators in order to ensure safe deliverance of care.
  3. Wow! I agree with a few of the others. I don't care what others are posting on a social media website, YOU worry about yourself, facebook, twitter whatever stay off. You were absolutely correct in alerting that the insulin was not given. It appears that your instructor should be the one looking after the students and making sure that they are providing safe and proper care according to hospital policy and accoring to the patient's plan of care. After all, you are all practicing under the instructors liscence. This is a situation, unfortunately that you will not only encounter in nursing school, but in the real world as well when you start working. Remember this... Failure to speak up is failing to care. Get through nursing school, keep your head up! Good luck to you
  4. I've been practicing nursing for 20 years. I knew then as I know now that working weekends and holidays as well as off shifts came with the territory. For starters, no one likes to be away from their family on the holidays, but my coworkers are my family as well. We all work together to cover each others holidays. There are alot of creative ways to get coverage and as long as the institution allows it you are good to go. There is always someone who would rather party on NY Eve and work Christmas. That being said, I am finding it more and more common that the nurses just entering the field come in with expectations that they know are just not feasible in this profession. Being a nurse is a 24/7 job, we need to provide coverage and care for our patients first and foremost. New nurses entering the field, please try to be flexible. Get some experience, then you can move on to a position that best suits your needs and the needs of your family. Cheer up! It's an extremely rewarding profession! Good Luck
  5. Great survey! I too am a WGU student and waiting for clearance to post my survey as well. Any students that have posted a survey, lets help each other out and if you meet the requirements for the survey, take some time to complete it. Your opinion matters. Let your voices be heard. Good luck to you!
  6. Hello fellow grad students. I am in the process of doing my capstone project and I would like to post a survey link via all nurses. Can anyone tell me if there are specific guidelines to doing this or if I need approval from the site administrator? Thank you and good luck to all my fellow students!
  7. Hello, I am a grad student at WGU and I want to post my survey on this site. Can you tell me if I need permission from the site to do so? Do they offer a letter of approval for your institution. Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks janai
