  1. Going back to the question on FNP vs PNP/ NNP. I know several people from grad school who were in the NNP program and it was not a hard field to get into....and it generally pays very well. I'm an Acute Care PNP and most of the people in my graduating class have done well because we have gone on to specialities. That seems to pay quite a bit more than working in a general medicine area such as a pediatrician's office. I'm a cardiology PNP (1 year experience) with 3 years of RN pediatric cardiac ICU experience. I took a job right out of grad school in San Antonio, Tx for $77,600 year with malpractice covered, Mon-Fri, no holidays ect. I was just offered a job that I will most likely take for $106,000 year in Dallas. With the cutback on resident hours I think the demand for NPs is just going to increase.
  2. Thanks for your input. I'll have to look into Baptist Hospital. I've heard good things about it as well and I do want to continue my education, so tuition reimbursement definately would be a plus.
  3. Does anyone know the starting pay for a new grad at Forsyth Med Center? I am graduating in Dec and am considering moving to Winston. I would really appreciate any info about pay, shift differentials, and/or working conditions for a new grad. Thanks in advance!
  4. Congratulations, that is so exciting! I am currently in Duke's accelerated BSN program, and so far I have been very happy with the faculty and the program. I know a couple of the instructors for the FNP program and they are great. If all goes well, I am hoping to enter Duke's FNP program in the fall of 2007. When do you start and how long is the program? Would you mind giving me a general idea of your gpa and gre scores? If you don't want to, thats fine, I'm just wondering if I will be a competitive applicant. Good luck! I'm sure you will love Duke!
  5. Hey Miniem67, I have all of my immunizations, cpr/first aid, ect. I guess they will talk about the supplies we need during orientation. The excitement of getting into the program is starting to decline and I am now getting nervous! What is your degree in? I have a BS in exercise and sports science. I'll be glad to know someone else on the first day too.
  6. Hello, I am also going to be attending Duke in the fall. I currently live in Greensboro and will be moving to the Chapel Hill area in August. Unfortunately I can't help you with daycares because I am not familiar with the Durham area. Do you know if they are going to send out a list of the books we need prior to orientation? I've read on these forums about students buying books, supplies, scrubs, ect. well in advance to class starting, but I don't know where to start with all of it!
  7. NC-RN, Do you know anything about how the applicants for WSSU's accelerated bsn are chosen? I applied to the class that just started last January, and was not accepted. I was told that approximately 15 students had all the prereqs completed, and they were automatically accepted. The rest of the applicants were chosen by a "random pool" and gpa was not considered if you had the minimum gpa (2.0). I find it hard to believe they would not want the best applicants for the program. I was told that for the January 2006 class my application would have priority status because all of my prereqs are complete, but it a lot of people also have their prereqs complete than I am back to random luck of the draw. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks in advance
  8. I don't know anything about UNCW's nursing program, so unfortunately I can't help you there, although I have to say that I think you should not have to pay full-time tuition if you are only taking one class. But, wow, UNC's average for the accelerated program is 3.7?!!! I was planning to apply there in the fall for the summer 2006 program, but with my 3.3 gpa maybe I shouldn't bother. How did you find out what the average was; I couldn't find it on their website.
