do you allow fetal demise infants to stay with mother in her postpartum room?
I'm not an OB nurse but experienced a neonatal loss my son was 18 days old. I would not want a nurse who couldn't or did not want to deal with loss. Even after having him the post-partum nurse was great my baby stayed in the NICU so even that feels like some sort of loss. Its not healthy to keep the baby for days after death, everytime mom would wak up the baby would not. thats my opinion

Curious to hear NICU nurses perspective--23-wkr, NEC m
I found more of the Blog that I think was cut out here: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=79481063&blogID=164112043&MyToken=8bdc119f-2ea7-4fb5-a863-a7ccde6dbec4 This kinda makes it sound even grimmer. Feel sorry for the parents and yes they do sound very angry and it is a one sided view.

Curious to hear NICU nurses perspective--23-wkr, NEC m
WOW! What a heartbreaking situation. While I am not a NICU nurse. I am a nurse and a parent of a preemie who may not of had the same situation but in the end I had to let him go. I can't say the parents or the hospital is right. But how can the hospital just stop and withhold care? That is not there child, I was given a decision and I made the decision to stop care on my baby. While maybe the parents have a clouded sense of having a miracle happen to save their baby, its their decision. At least in my opinion. I have to wonder if they know their baby is suffering, and if they realize that even though she is still "here" she may actually already be gone. It will be interesting to see others opinions and see what will actually happen.

How to say thank you to NICU nurses
Just wanted to update. I decided to send cards and pictures of him. I was going to send one card to the whole staff with pictures, one to each of the 3 nurses who took care of him after he whad NEC and one to his neonatologist. Its hard to decide what to write because well words can't really begin to express the gratitude to someone who cares for your baby and cares for you. Thank you all for responding and thank you for posting things I can read that make me think that I made the best decision with my son.

University of Phoenix in CO, LPN to BSN
I was enrolled last spring and dropped due to family problems. Yes UOP does have a LPN-BSN program here in denver at the lone tree campus I am not sure who the contact is now for admissions but will ask my councelor. most of my credits transefered in and I got some credit for everything. Yes it is like 30 months but if you take into account that your lpn-rn is like a 1 year and then rn-bsn is 1-1 1/2 years not counting prereqs and waiting lists its pretty good I think. I will probably be going back the end of this month or in november

How to say thank you to NICU nurses
Hi I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this but here I go. I am a med-surg nurse and had a baby august 16th a 27 weeker he was taken off of life support on september 3rd after doing great for 2 weeks and developing NEC and lossing most of his intestines or about half unable to maintain blood pressure and so on. His nurses were the best as I'm sure you all get all the time. I wasn't one of the parents bringing coffee and snakcs as I did and still believe as a nurse this is my job I don't need anything extra though sometimes it is nice :wink2: My question is how do you thank someone who cared for my child and me? I know nothing can ever show my appreciation but any thoughts? I know every nurses name that took care of him. Thank You in advance for any help you can be.

comments about patient's w/ IV's?
where work many of our frequent Dialysis patients who come in once a week because they are illegal/no insurance and can not recieve outpt dialysis do not get an IV when they are on Tele. The docs who know them during admit write for it. But even if not it is not our standard to put one in on them. Even though any other tele pt must have an IV.

Pregnant new grad in the ED?
As a pregnant floor nurse this is my first baby and I am exhausted! I'm 5 months and haven't had any problems except terrible back pain, lifting restrictions. Your first year is hectic as by itself, your first pregnancy is scary and exhausting. Give yourself time to get used to your new jobs first. Secondly, to qualify for short term disability and FMLA you have to be at most jobs for at least six months to a year.

When to tell work your pregnant?
I'm sure this has been asked before but was unable to find it in my search. So my question is I work on a busy med-surg floor lots of MRSA, VRE, C-diff and any other infectious disease you can think of. when should I inform work I'm pregnant? I'm approx. 5 weeks first appointment is not until April 6th, Just kind of worried about exposure to the nasty bugs I had a miscarraige 6 months ago and well I'm just a little nervous. thanks for any info you can give!

Does nite shift make you fat?
I acutally lost weight due to night shift I think. (too much red bull). But my advise is say NOOOOOO! to the vending machines and ordering out. get a pedometer and try to walk the halls if you ever get any "free" time:roll

Is Ativan 10 mg po per dose too much?
WOW! that would be alot of ativan. I've seen 2mg q 2hr but never 10mg po. I question anything that takes more than a couple pills to get the dose. though I have given 5 or 6 pills of methadone to get the right dose but thats a little different. Doc should of looked at what he was writing and maybe try something different because it doesn't look like the ativan works for this guy.

My 16-year-old wants a navel piercing
I've had mine peirced since I was 15, it's been done 3 times due to various things that would make me take it out but only the "bottom" of the hole has healed the top has never. ugly scar! I had a friend who kept hers in through her whole pregnancy It's very stretched out and funny looking but to each their own. I can think of worse things then a belly ring at that age. piercings will eventually heal, a tattoo would be permenent......

How many Pt do you take care of?
