Just a quick update for anyone who reads this later. I also got a job in a level IV NICU! I’m still on orientation for 6 more weeks (12 total.) It really was the best decision I’ve ever made in my nursing career. If you’re thinking about making the switch but nervous about lack of NICU experience just apply anyways. You never know when someone might take a chance on you!

Hello, I’m also a cardiac nurse with 2 years cardiac and 1 year neonatal nurse on an L&D unit (I recovered stable babies post delivery.) I want to make the switch to NICU but I’m not sure how to get my foot in the door. Did you apply for an internship or residency position? Or just an open position at a hospital? All of the openings I see want experience in NICU. thanks ?

Hello nurses! I am currently looking to make the switch to L&D in the DC and Maryland area. So I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for hospitals to look into for L&D I would prefer a hospital with low c-section rates. I’d like to hear the good and bad! So please share if you have info! Thanks ?

I'm glad to finally hear from someone who was able to break into CM with a little over a year experience in the hospital. I'm approaching the one year mark at my hospital and I'm planning on leaving the bedside as soon as I find something better. I'm really glad I stumbled upon your post. You have given me so much hope!

Hello nurses! I am a new grad nurse working on a vascular/thoracic step down unit in DC. I've been working here since August of 2017 (almost 6 months) and I'm already feeling the burn out! I have signed a contract that will expire in March of 2019 and would have to pay $3500 if I broke the contract. I am seriously considering ambulatory care to be on a normal schedule and have less patients who are severely ill. I know that last statement sounds awful since I'm a nurse in a hospital but I just honestly can't emotionally or physically handle the patients that I see on a day to day basis. I'm always exhausted, I cry before my shifts, and dread going to work days before I even have to go in. I need a change but I'm unsure that given my limited experience if I could land a job in an ambulatory setting (preferably a doctor's office). Any advice on my situation is welcome!

Looking to apply at MS WHC and was wondering when they posted the residency openings. All I see is a post from May 2016. Will they post new ones as openings become available?

I talked to Wanda and you have to buy them through the bookstore now. The code we were given doesn't work anymore. I'm a little annoyed by this because I haven't had the best experiences with the GSU bookstore. She said lab kits were available the 7th and when I stopped by on the 7th AND 14th (the date that the bookstore told me I could buy one) they told me that I couldn't buy it. Has anyone else tried since then to get a lab kit?

I'm able to answer a few of your questions. You have to submit the acceptance form first before you can do the PINS review. As for the FAFSA, I'm assuming you've already finished one for the 2015-2016 academic year. You'll just have to log into the FAFSA website and add Georgia State to your school list so that your financial aid will be sent to the school for the spring semester. The CPR certification has to be done prior to December 14th in order to keep your spot open, all of this information is in the PINS review. So just turn your acceptance letter in as soon as you can. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys! I got my packet last night and agree, it was a little odd. Wanda Little told me today that the PINS would be open for me to take by the end of the day. Where is everyone getting their CPR certification? I can't attend the class at GSU this weekend because I work during that time so I'm kind of lost as to where to go. Any suggestions?

Oh, and has anyone else received their acceptance packet? I know mail isn't running today (Veterans Day) but it's getting pretty close to the 7 business days and I'm getting antsy. I need to know when these deadlines are going to be! If anyone gets theirs pleeeeease post the info on here. I'll do the same.

@gsu.ace.spring2016 I think all of the information about signing up for classes will be in the acceptance packet. My advisor told me that the spots are already reserved. As for the exams, I'm unsure. I had a friend who had to take them and she said it wasn't very hard but she studied for it. Sorry I can't help more.

Congrats to @annerstine, @firefly22, @endowed, AND @jael1 what an exciting time!! Just curious, @jael1, what program were you accepted into? I still can't believe this is finally happening! It feels like a dream. I'm hoping the deadlines are different for the people who received emails today. It says I won't get mine until 7 to 10 business days from today, which will be past the 13th of November.

YOU GUYS!!! I just received the email telling me that I was accepted into the ACE program! I honestly doubted myself so much but am so happy all of my hard work paid off. Good luck to everyone!!

Thanks for the info. Hopefulrngsu, do you, or anyone else for that matter, happen to know how many people are accepted into each program. I'm sure if varies each semester but I can't find it anywhere on the internet!

@firefly22 Yeah, I bet they go off of when EVERYTHING was submitted and your application was complete, which is slightly annoying. I do have nursing friends that graduated from West Georgia and were in the part time nursing program and they gave me some good advice. They said that if you're only taking three or so classes at a time then hospitals will hire you as a Nurse Tech (I think this is the correct term) after your first year of nursing school. You get paid hourly and gain experience. They said that when they were looking for jobs they wished they had something like that on their resume. It's something to keep in mind if you're only going to school part time and need some extra cash or experience. I'm hoping to hear something back TODAY! haha this waiting game is killing me, thanks for the info though. If someone doesn't hear back by the 15th where exactly do we call, the admission office?

@firefly22 It really depends on what classes you still have to take for the over all degree, besides the prerequisites. My friend who began the traditional program this semester is taking Pathophysiology, Concepts of Nursing Care (which is a minimester), and Cultural Diversity. She has taken pretty much all of her other classes in the other Areas that are not major specific, so she is only a part time student. Clinicals won't begin until the second semester for traditional students. Right now you can log on to Paws and just look at the Nursing classes that will be offered in the spring to get a better idea of the actual time and dates are. I hope this answered your questions. If you have any more let me know! I'm constantly checking here for updates on acceptance emails.

I'm right there with you annerstine! I've applied to both programs but really want acceptance into the ACE program. Your stats are better than mine, so I would say you have a pretty good chance! At least in my book Are you currently at Georgia State or another school?

@jazfurnur All we can do is hope for the best! Your stats look good though! I was also reading in past threads from the Spring and acceptance letters from GSU started going out around the first week of November. I'm kind of hoping that's the case for us. Either way, it's almost November so we should all know soon enough!

How's everyone's semester going so far? I noticed my application moved from complete to "complete - ready for review". One step closer!! I'm getting antsy.

I didn't know about the extra points for TEAS scores ranking about the 80 percentile. That makes me feel better about my TEAS score. I completely bombed the English portion. Bernie, do you happen to know if the percentile rank is within the national rank or program? My scores show both. Also for anyone with a program GPA around 3.5, I have a reassuring story! I have two friends that applied to the program last March for admission into this current semester's program, Fall 2015. One had a 3.5 and the other had a 3.4, I'm not sure of their science GPA and know that one of their TEAS scores was an 83. They didn't get an acceptance email until the SUMMER, when they had applied in March. They were able to get in because enough people had either chosen to not go to Georgia State or didn't pay the required fees. All of this to say that if you're wait listed the first time around don't give up! I know two people that were able to get in from the wait list.
