  1. This was 3 years ago that I asked this question. I'm sure the starting pay is all very similar in Chicago...I interviewed at 3 of the big ones there and they were all within less than a dollar of each other.
  2. 2 years ago at my job offer from Rush the starting pay was 21 or 22/hour for a RN with one years experience. Good Luck!
  3. I worked at Northwestern Memorial in 2005. FANTASTIC hospital with qualified, caring staff and exceptional Docs....Go for it!!
  4. Hi I've had a family member suffer a stroke recently and he's basically been written off by the UP hospital and some of the doctors. He is running out of time at a nursing home he was recently placed in for rehab and desperately does NOT want to go to a VA home. I looked into Mary Free Bed online and they seem like a good and qualified facility. Anybody know anything about them such as, cost? Do the patients stay there? Staff attitudes? Admission screening process? Thanks for your help!!
  5. Thanks for the info!! I appreciate it.
  6. Hi, I'm a RN interviewing soon for a position at Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc. Does anyone have any info on this hospital? Working conditions, wages, attitudes of management, benefits, union or no? etc...I really appreciate it!!
  7. Good to hear they're not striking! My travel agency offered me that place and I was thinking about it, since its close to my home "base". I don't do scab labor, though!! I worked for Mclaren Regional in Flint for a year, a part of Ingham's corporation, pay wasn't bad and our ratio was 4:1 on my floor. They tried the mandating every now and then there, too. McLaren Corp. isn't that great to work for, in my opinion anyway.
  8. The starting wage at both NMH and Rush is 23.40. I work at NMH, you get a shift differential for nights and weekends of like 5 I think. I don't know if you get one at Rush. Good luck!! The move almost wiped me out financially, so you better be saving or debt free now. Its worth it though, fun city.
  9. Yes the differential applies to new grads at NMH.
  10. Oak Park!!! Look at oakparkapartments.com, 10 miles W of the Loop, blue and green line access. Plus its a nice city. I start Northwestern July 11, and Oak Park seemed the nicest place.
  11. No, my LPN had nothing to do with it. I never even mention it, to be honest. I'll be working on a telemetry stepdown floor again, its what I like. I'm thinking Oak Park area to live. I don't want to live right in the city, I have a 10 year old daughter so I want the suburbs.
  12. Rush was wonderful, very good vibes from the nurse manager I interviewed with. Like I said, it was a hard decision, but one I'm comfortable with. I've been a RN for a little over a year, I was a LPN for about a year prior to that. I have a rotation schedule, 12 hour shifts, which I love. I like my time off. It was the same basic shift as Rush. I went to a college here in Michigan, where I'm from. I work in a hospital in Flint, on an ICU stepdown/telemetry floor. I don't know what I do that pays more, but I'm making more right now an hour than the starting wages there, I was just a little suprised, but overall, with differentials and OT (always available here at least) I will come out ahead, plus be in an area I love.
  13. Hi, I can tell you about starting pay, I just interviewed at 3 big hospitals in the area. They were all with in a few cents of each other to start. Rush offered me $23.40/hour 23.90 after 6 months with one year experience as a RN. I didn't ask about shift differential because I had already accepted an offer from Northwestern where they pay 23.40/h plus 5.00 for nights and 2.00 on weekends. I was surprised that this was actually a bit less than what I make now in Michigan. Rush was great!!! It was very hard to decide between them and Northwestern, good luck!!!!!
  14. I'm at Masonic all the time, Mary. I stay in Barr Tower when I'm visiting. I like what I hear about Advocate's system so far.
  15. Okay, how many of these places are unionized, here every hospital is union. I was surprised this isn't the case there for many it seems, unless that has changed.
